I think Freedy has his finger on the pulse of something that touches everyone from his age group and everyone who appreciates and loves true Americana. There are only a few songwriters I can place in this category. Maybe Phil and Dave Alvin of the Blasters... Maybe Bob Dylan... maybe a few more... but Freedy definitely knows and understands what it was to be a child of the 60's and 70's and whirlwind of artistic expression that seemed to come from every direction. The man is a brother.
I was firest introduced to Freedy when I bought an Indie mix wich had the first song of "Can You Fly." I think this guy is one of the best singer/songwriters to come along in quite some time. Saw him in Dallas three times at very small venues. Even spoke to him once after a show a Poor David's Pub...great guy.
Thank you Terry Gross for turning me on to Freedy when you played this cover during your interview of Jimmy Webb (Fresh Air 7-23-10). It was especially nice to hear Jimmy Webb say that he has not only heard this version but likes it!
Anyone know the chords he is using?

One of the most underrated singer song-writers of the last 20 years. Can you fly?

LOL, he has a very "er, sorry bout that guys" look on his face at the end. No worries Freedy, it was awesome.

This song is so haunting, it gives me the chills. And he's captured that feeling perfectly.

It's a shame this only has about 6,000 views. This song is most likely the song I could always hear and just never get tired of.
