  • G'day!

    Are you Aussie?

  • do they see other people from asia as Foreigner or a little Foreigner because there is no much diffrence between behaving en culture

  • @CeaNer

Look at the "what do asians like" video.

  • Wonder if they would be able to answer as honestly if they were to speak japanese, and then be translated? I really got the feeling that not all of them were able to say all that they wanted to say; and at least not the way they wanted to say it... Subtitles are fine with me :P

  • Exchange student from Malaysia! I didn't expect to hear that but I'm not exactly surprised either. Most of my friends who went for foreign exchange programs went to Japan.

  • I like the last girl she's much more honest to her heart, than thinking about moving to another country or to get to learn English aka just to use people like that for your own benefit.

  • 1 thing I have learned from Japanese friends @ my University is that women are far more likely than men to MARRY a foreigner. This is mainly due to their own culture. Women are more open to the idea because, in Japan, they are sort of expecting to be subservient. Not that would be the only reason, but it seems to be the one that crops up the most when I ask around.

Men, on the other hand, prefer the subservient type and know most foreigners, especially American women, are more free minded.

  • Does first girl feel cold or something? She needs to find a Swiss or German guy who likes to have a Japanese girlfriend dressed in a blanket.

  • It's always interesting to hear people's honest opinions. The interesting thing about love, however, is that it has a funny knack of treating opinions, preferences and even prejudices like the Berlin Wall. Eventually, any barrier will come down. Perhaps love is what ultimately makes life interesting and varied, in that we aren't truly able to choose with whom we fall in love. Love happens when it does, and takes the two swept up in its wake along with it.

  • "lol, no. no thank you. lol" he rocks lol.

  • fuking comecial every fuking video!! >:O

  • @HolyEyEolo commercial*

  • @zepherighost

fuking grammer nazy every fuking place you go!! >:O

  • @HolyEyEolo Nazi.

  • @zepherighost

    Nazi**

  • @HolyEyEolo

fuk it why am i nazyfied ??? leamme alone you nazy!

  • I think they don't want to marry a foreigner because they are totally different and don't speak Japanese but would if the foreigner was totally committed to learning Japanese and being one of them would it be okay to marry one for them?

  • Like the guy said at the beginning of the video, don't get discouraged/hearbroken: this is only the views of select individuals. and oF COURSE their parents prefer marrying w/in the culture; every previous generation is more conservative than the current one. there are plenty of Japanese nationals who love foreigners. the idea that Japan is some weird, alien world where group think is common is false. people are people, no matter the country. some hate you, some love you; a lot don't care.

  • It's funny to see some would date/marry for culture and the others wouldn't because of culture

  • Your questions were kind of fishing for specific answers, not very open ended

  • I always get sad that the foreign girls are okay with american/european guys, but the guys are never interested in american/european guys. I wouldn't mind a Japanese guy, but I don't really see it happening.

  • just say NO. lol

  • why dont you tteach us some japanese...

  • I don't care about nationality or race of my boyfriend. and marriage doesnt matter to me coz I will never do. lol haha

  • It makes sense why they would only want to date a foreigner and not marry, there are a ton of differences in husband/ wife dynamics in the states and in japan.

  • This kinda broke my heart! lol

  • I'M FROM SWITZERLAND!!! ... no I'm not. -____-;

  • i think many modern japanese women like the culture freedoms that western women have

  • There is many problems a foreign man faces in Japan when dating women(note; i lived in Japan last year, but I no longer do, however I hope to someday return and live there). The main problem is most Japanese women who want a foreigner man almost always want to live in a western country or just want to learn english off of you. For me personally, I wanted a real japanese woman who could not speak english and would want to always speak japanese, I never found such a woman.

  • is a difference between Asian Foreigner and a western Foreigner in japan

  • I can understand the last girl's concern for trying to get along and truly comprehend someone from a different culture, but most foreigners love the Japanese culture as well. Heck, The only culture out there that I truly enjoy is the Japanese. Nothing else makes more sense or gives me more joy :) In fact, If it wasn't for my country of birth and physicial appearance, I'd be 100 % Japanese ^^

  • damn it... the cutest girl doesn't want a foreigner.... wtf

  • the guys were honest ..... the girls were just being polite

  • @kilzinha

the girls just like foreigner guys, though.

  • Politeness is near enough in their DNA. I don't think we really got any honest answers apart from the last one.

  • There's hope

  • Hehehe this is funny.

  • GAIJIN

  • The lady at 5:20 > seems very open minded and cute, sort of feel sorry for her as i can see it could go very bad with certain asswipes :(

  • I want a Japanese girl.

  • i like that girls starting at min 5:20 she is Kawaii(for me)

  • when i go to japan i need to meet that 1st girl's brother! it would be so cool to speak french there! (i'm french canadian by the way ^_^)

  • @jodelle6

why would you go to Japan just to speak French? you can do that here. lol.

  • @310BPM you misunderstood me. i'm not wishing everybody would speak french to me in japan but it is a rare event when i travel, my english helped me way more. i just thought it would be cool to meet a japanese person who can speak french.

  • After seeing most of the "How to" videos, explaining the "less pleasant parts" of Japan, this one makes me still looking forward for trips and maybe a long-term stay in Nihon, hehe. You can feel that the people in the video are very fond to their culture, and I sure want to adapt to it. And now I also have hope in finding people who would, even if not directly, show you the way to blend in as good as possible. Thanks to the interviewers, ki o tsukete kudasai !! ^_^ (sorry for bad japanese)

  • confirm subscription - イイエズ (yes)

  • I heard it was a requirement to learn english!

  • @wheeler1 From middle school, yes.

  • @wheeler1 lol its not a "requirement" to learn english. No one can make you learn a language, unless you went to a prison in the country of the language you wanted to learn. It is only a requirement for kids to take english classes during school.

  • ahh~so sad that only the girls seem to be more open minded~

oh well~ but its interesting to see their answers!

  • Is it unusual for Japanese people to marry a foreigner??

  • @KirstieXoXo Around 1% of the population is foreign and Nearly all of those are Chinese, Korean or Brazilian. Other than that there are barely any other foreigners. Unless they'd been abroad it'd be very unlikely and strange.

  • @KirstieXoXo it is, overall, I heard another youtuber who lives in japan (teaches english), speak about that 1/5 of the children in tokyo comes from mixed parents, but obviously, in the kansai area the mix is far less.

when I went to Osaka with my girlfriend, as i didnt live in the tourist area, and i only saw a handfull foreigners living there. around the shopping areas you will see a few mixed couples.. but I think it is becomming more acceptable.

  • 11:03 unfortunately you would be favourited through your honesty T_T

  • I found it very interesting how none of them answered with, "Well, if I'm in love with them, I would want to marry them." or soemthing along those lines. It was always more of language and cultural issues that steered them clear of marriage to a foreigner. O.O

  • Japanese girls are cute, adorable and shy. The way I love them.

  • @TeriyakiShogun and why they're SUPER HARD to obtain and also why they'll probably never pay any attention to you ;)

  • @bloc22 Not really, well yeah in Japan. I had a Japanese girl in the USA but she moved back to Japan and left me alone, I still communicate but yeah, Was it SUPER HARD for you? and they never pay any attention to you? I feel bad if they didn't =/ must suck for you.

  • @TeriyakiShogun I was talking about in Japan. Don't act like a big shot yet buddy.

  • @bloc22 Well that's what I said in Japan. It's easy here in the Bronx.

  • @TeriyakiShogun You live in the Bronx??...........me too! lol that's awesome

  • @bloc22 Yep, born and raised.

  • @TeriyakiShogun Same

  • @bloc22 Koolio, small world huh?? 1404 noble ave East bronx new york Come at me if you wanna fight me lol just kidding.

  • @TeriyakiShogun 5 Minerva Place in Jerome. I'll be there hahahaha just messin

  • @TeriyakiShogun I go there everyday! I get a bagel and cream cheese before headin to class lol

  • @bloc22 hahaha kool

  • Very interesting interesting interview.

    ありがとう @TheJapanChannelDcom

  • To the first girl, I am Swiss ^^ :D

(But I want to live in Japan) :D bad luck for you.

  • THE LAST GIRL WAS TOTALLY HONEST !!!thumbs up if you agree :D

  • @jaedenize And pretty cute. :3

  • @jaedenize she is alright

  • 6:05 that girl is so lying you can tell when there lying when they swing there head down to the left/right!

  • I'm Swedish and i would have a VERY hard time answering those questions:

How do you know if the love of your life is going to be "foreigner"??

Also, I wouldn't become the boyfriend of ANY girl that i didn't consider marrying.

Not that we'd have to get married (marriage is unimportant) - i just wouldn't settle for anything less then what makes me madly in love (no, i'm not religious). Everyone deserves the best relationship only, otherwise it's a waste of our short lives.

  • @clarkcolt45 Thats what I love about japanese, and koreans, they seem to have a more pragmatic approach to relationships, not this fake best relationship only crap.

You may get lucky to have this best relationship, but your a low percentage even though everybody thinks they have the best relationship.

But whatever, we will stick to enjoying life the best we can instead of shoehorning ourselves into a fantasy where we go in with false expectations.

  • They are fine with foreign boyfriends but when the matter escalates to marriage, I am surprised that they have a total change of heart. That is going to break a lot of hearts.

  • @bigfatfoot Not really :) Just look at this channel's creator. ^^ Love knows no Boundries my friend.

  • @bigfatfoot Are you sure that is normal? I know from other countries like vietnam that intercultural marriage is normal.

  • @bigfatfoot Well, I believe most people don't think about marriage or who to marry. If a japanese woman gets a foreigner as a boyfriend and they are together a couple of years. They might change their mind. After all I believe it's all about love in the end and not your culture and/or heritage, even tho I think that is important aswell.

  • Boyfriend ehhh?? friends? :).

  • 10:06 Idk why but I adore this girl. Ill be her boyfriend!

  • You deserve Like button :3

  • last girl is so kawaiiii

  • maybe have your wife do one of the interviews?

  • Lol, it's good advice to notice the reactions, when asked the girl squints and kind of cringes a little.. the guy on the other hand spreads a sincere smile from ear to ear the moment he hears the question even if he said no!

  • They're just being modest and polite.

I think many Japanese are very careful before marrying a foreigner.

  • @Destruction3402 so what is their true mind then? Can you explain the "honne" behind this "tatemae" in a clear way so that simple folk can have the secret revealed. Because I don't know what is the truth.

  • the girls seem more open to the idea of marrying/dating a foreigner than the guys but still you can see them having to think about it a little lol

  • my answer would you like a foreign boyfriend? YES A JAPANESE BOYFRIEND

    <3

  • @sopeopp Same here and at the question "Will your parents would agree" My mother will definitely say "YES" ! xD

  • Alot of times, I forget to like the video, but every time I see his little caption, I always remember! :) Clicking the like button is always nice!

  • Hello THEJAPANCHANNELDCOM guy, thanks for making all these videos, they make me smile.

  • would my parents be happy if i have a japanese husband? As long as i'm happy they are

The rest of my family would shun me....

  • Well, at least some of them are honest. That´s okay, of course. I think it could be difficult in some way, especially for their parents or even grandparents.

It could work out too, but that´s up to both people in a relationship.

  • Sorry for the double post but I had to do it. Ayumi Hamaski married a foreigner!! OK maybe that isn't the best representative example but hey it could happen. I also wonder if the time factor has anything to do with it. If a Japanese girl knows that your time in Japan is short, maybe she is less willing to get involved? That has happened to me a couple of times but I never really thought about it that much. While cultural differences can be a hurdle don't let it be a handicap & learn from it.

  • Ah nice to know people are being someone civil on this one in their responses. Yes, true most are likely just being polite. The polite response vs true feelings is a major hurdle no doubt. What I have found is that Japanese express more truthfully in written text then face to face conversation. Overall a very interesting video and one which you can never have to much information.

  • My brother-in-law lives in Japan and is married to a Japanese woman. I have several friends foreign to Japan that are dating Japanese men/women. I go to school in Niigata-Japan every summer. I'll be living in Japan for the next 2 years, starting April 2012. In "my" experience, I've met Japanese girls who only date foreign guys. Lot's of Japanese guys/girls want western partners. In effect, lot's of foreigners to Japan don't like other foreigners, for that reason. This is just "my" experience.

  • This is absolutely fascinating to watch, then I thought about it and I said to myself would my parents care if I had a foreign girlfriend and the answer is maybe, but not much.

  • girl at 5.19 wants a foreighn husband ?.......pick me please :D

  • I live in Switzerland and my dream is to marry a japanese man and go live in japan! xd Like the opposit :D

  • switzerland YOU MUST BE SO HAPPY NOW! but remember german, poland france is close enough :D

  • @CptEddyPrice I'm french, but I don't get what you mean...? OO

  • @TheSunset0

In this video they wanted to go to Switzerland and Germany but Poland and France is close enough :)

  • @CptEddyPrice AH yeah, okay, yeah. xD

  • @CptEddyPrice To be fair, France DOES border Switzerland, and many Swiss speak French. So it pretty much is close enough.

  • Generally speaking, Everybody feels more comfortable with their own culture because that is what they know best, it is very simple actually, no mistery.

  • Strange how almost each answer begins with "Maybe". Is it a common practice in Japanese?

  • @frepi From my experience living together with my japanese girlfriend for several years, japanese people don't like to discuss stuff, at all, at least not serious stuff too much. "Maybe" is a way for japanese people to avoid not being nice to people and again, to avoid serious discussion, because I think they're not comfortable with it.

  • @Enemtee

Wow...Imagine trying to corner a corrupt politician or an abusive parent in that context...

  • as a girl it's really hard to get a serious relationship with a japanese guy- as pointed out before it might seem exciting and kinda adventurous for a japanese guy to have a foreign girlfriend, but they hardly consider you as "marriage material"......so mostly the relationship has an expiration date and you know it....pretty frustrating LOL

  • @Lori82hb it is true and is not only japanese guy but it goes to this chinese guy I have dated for three months. Mostly all asian girls are bold enough to marry someone outside their race and very happy. These asian girls know what they want. They didn't like asian guys that much because the asian guys are doing the same thing or just plain out not bold as these asian girls. It sad but it is how it is.

  • Hmmm...that's like asking do i wanna marry an american that is chinese. lol

  • I'm against marriage because it is an agreement between a couple and the state. I'm against the state. I'm fine with personal unions however. Besides that, marriage can be (Depending on location) a very sexist institution. I'm not just talking about taking a man's last name. I'm talking about often times men getting the most out of divorce settlements in many places, as an example.

  • @Aleenik

Men getting the most out of divorce?Thats bs. You can get cleaned out in the US with a divorce and these liberal courts.

  • it's not so surprising tho. most of my friends have chosen nice middle class in english girls to settle down with... for me personally, that's boring. i guess there's a type of person that no matter where they're born are going to be more interested in the opposite side of the planet. lol

  • Not sure if I've seen a video about it. But I really wonder why they make such big difference in boyfriend/girlfriend and married in Japan?

Why does it seem like almost everyone is completely set on that they have to marry?

  • I do not understand why so many people say that there so many differences in cultural understanding of marriage and relationship between Japan and the West. As a Southern European I can see many similarities between ours and theirs general understanding of the matter.

  • @aulocus I think it's because the U.S. and countires smililar to us have views on it that are so massively different from everyone else's. Speaking from the a U.S. perspective, I think marriage is one big trap, and an easy way for a guy to ruin his life. But it's because of how marriage works in the U.S. that I've become so advertent to it. It's a horrible, one-sided affair here. The fact that U.S. divorce rate is nearing 50% and Japan's is 27% says a lot already about differences.

  • @PinuyashaRPG 50% ?! That is so selfish, towards the children I mean. Just terrible.

  • Marrying someone from another country is very hard as there are so many gaps in communication . I'm talking mainly about Japanese and Korean as their language and upbringing is so different from say someone from Aust. It can work , but if you're a person who thrives on conversation/communication in a relationship , you're asking for a hard time . It depends what you value most and If you don't mind explaining more then talking freely with your partner . Sure a Japanese girl/boy can learn Englis

  • "Would you like a foreign wife?" "uh... no, no thank you." lol

  • @rushgal100

Don't forget to say that he was so sorry to say "no". You could see it. :-D

  • the up front discription of this video rocks.

    very intriguing :)

  • I am surprised that none of them brought up the subject of love. I mean, if someone asked me if I would marry someone from another country I think I would say that if I fell in love with them and loved them very deeply then, yes of course I would.

  • lol, they need time to consider if their answer is the truth.

  • i hear japanese think badly of u.s women because "loud and demanding women who are shallow & expect the boyfriend to do everything" but then again that could be people who got turned down by a "foreigner".please tell people there that u.s women are all not the same. i also hear that when foreigners go to japan and make fools of emselves like getting drunk and being rude or annoying say their from america when their not.but again they dont c alot of white, black people so they might just assume

  • @BlueEyes72 I'm from the U.S. myself and I think U.S. women are loud, demanding, shallow, and do expect the boyfriend to do everything. This opinion isn't a Japanese exclusive and I'm sure tons of other guys would agree with the same statement.

  • @PinuyashaRPG That's my general perception of women in the west. I move to Canada at the age of 11. Don't get me wrong. I love to shower my woman with everything but only when they deserve it not demanded it.

  • @PinuyashaRPG Not all of us... :( I'm much more like a Japanese person, introverted... But there are a lot who give us bad names, yeah...

  • Your channel is amazing and informative. What I learned in this video is that whether they accept foreigners or not is based on the generational gap that their parents gave. Some parents stuck to tradition, while others believe in trusting their child's decisions. I've always liked the "lady with the glasses" responses to all your interview questions. she seems to have charisma and doesn't seem nervous about the questions. Great vid. :)

  • I love the variety of opinions on here! It correlates with a lot of what you say in your other videos about ''Dating'' and ''Relationships''. :D

  • Don't know whether it's been already mentioned in any of your videos, but after watching this one I started to wonder whether being a declared single (a person who openly says that he/she doesn't want to get married) is common or not. Or whether they still try to follow the traditional pattern of getting married or simply choose to live in open relationships?

I realize that this question may sound a bit odd, though ^_^

  • @AkallabethGoth my twin and our friend is the same way. they both say they dont see themselves getting married. but would like to have a long term boyfriend

  • it's so adorable how they apologize for not wanting to marry foreign person XD

  • All the girls except the hottest say they wouldn't mind a foreign boy friend 11:05 - damn lol

  • Awesome stuff! Having a Japanese girlfriend would be pretty cool!

  • When they start tilting their head i know straight away their going to say no like the guy did @ 4:01 lol its very cute^^

  • Why did you ask that last girl if she would marry a foreigner when she said she wouldn't even date one...?

  • @SheWhoLovesPineapple It's a very pertinent question. Japanese have the idea that foreigners like to fool around. Some Japanese women wouldn't want to date a foreigner to fool around with but they would marry him if he was seriously interested in her.I've seen it happen many times.

  • @SheWhoLovesPineapple To keep it fair. He has to ask the same questions to everyone. And her second answer could give more reason as to why she wouldn't want a foreign partner.

  • You at 2:10 - I'm Swiss, so will you marry me? :)

  • the long mmm... sound means nooooo!!! XD

  • they're super polite, but they're lying. it's interesting how their is such a massive difference between boyfriend and husband. a boyfriend is a potential husband! the last girl is so adorable!

  • Ironic how the girl at end who probably has the best English in this video is the one that says she is worried about communication and understanding another culture.

  • @blahk04 - Why's that ironic? That would be a normal reaction. If you think communication is a problem, then you do your best to be a good communicator.

  • Wow the language struggles are huge.

  • @Roryomg Yeah compared to the other rich countries in the world, the Japanese are horrible at English. Especially since many of them study it in elementary school and high school.

  • Opposites attract.. I honestly don't want to marry another Canadian like myself. Canadians are crazy people... CRAZY I TELL YOU!! :P But love is a strange thing and anything could happen..

  • @danpluso While I agree that opposites attract, it doesn't really apply to every combination of racial makeup. For example, here in Toronto the white guy/asian girl couples far outnumber the asian guy/white girl by an incredibly huge margin. Opposites attract, but there is an unwritten hierarchy that many girls will follow that will prevent them from "mating" with someone who they perceive as being below their status.

  • These interviews are the most popular of all the play lists in my opinion. Please make more. Good Topic Do they own any pets?

  • I love the 2nd dude! he's always honest! Some people might get offended but I think the key is to learn and understand what and why they are saying it.

  • Why is it usually girls are more accepting towards having foreign relationships than guys? not trying be like rude or anything!! hoping someone has an answer :)

  • @heatherlovebug1 Generaly the idea is that the women are more outgoing for relationships and seem to be far more polite about the questions. They also have to think of continuing family roles through generations.

  • Thumbs up if you dated a Japanese girl whose parents hated foreigners.

  • @Dax893 hahaha no one thumbs up u . ur the only one

  • Your disclaimer at the beginning of this vid was incredibly important. My experience is that most gaijin seldom meet xenophobic Japanese, and if they do, they never become aware of it simply because they don't speak enough Japanese to know it. Also, the average Japanese is rather polite, even if they detest foreigners. But in fact many do. You only begin to know this well after about 5 years or so of being there.

  • There is still hope :D

  • next you should ask them if it would be ok to date or marry a black foreigner. Because, as you well know, in Japan there are 'good' foreigners and 'bad' foreigners. The governor of tokyo, mr ishihara, has even verbalised it.

  • love the accents!!! xD

  • i just think that nobody speaks about love... if someone ask me that question i say that if i would love a foreigner i wanted to be with him

  • I noticed none of them said anything about Americans or America, it was all like Germany, France, Switzerland, ect not that i blame em just interesting observation.
