  • All though I know an english accent is her natural accent I would love to know what her oldest child thinks about the fact that her mother is suddenly speaking with an accent.

  • Mulder what the hell is going on here? It must be aliens or even demons.

  • Switching accents is not unusual for people who travel a lot or were born in one place and later moved to another. I do that a lot, and almost every person I know do that as well. It's pretty much like speaking different languages when you're in different countries.

  • I love her very much but i hate that gay accent

  • She sounds better with an English accent.

  • Her laugh and giggle is so adorable and cute.

  • She thought she was a balloon in the first 2 seasons? There's something wrong with our society when a beautiful woman with great figure thinks she's fat.

  • Now I get it...!!!! Bloody hell! I alwyas thought she talked funny, but I thought it was her "roughness" of character

  • Weird, her accent changes with different locations.. Check the Jay Leno interview, she is speaking americian there

  • I love her lips.

  • @foxyroxytm

if you love gillian's lips, check out aussie actress emily browning :D

  • OMG I love Gillian's English accent!

  • The cutest laugh I have every heard from a lady :)

  • Even without red hair and a british accent she is still Scully and still really hot

  • Gillian Anderson looks like 80's rocker Joan Jett.

  • so she speaks to parky in her english accent and leno in an american accent. i read that

  • O yea she was on the x-files. Didn't recognize her, because of the hair and the accent. Weird. =)

  • I wish she would be herself and stick to her english accent. Screw what anybody thinks.

  • I am from Minnesota but no longer live there. I still slip back to the Minnesotan accent sometimes but when i go back up there I start having the accent all the time.

I think it has something to do with your brain development of speech during the younger years. she was there when she was young.

I also had to force away my accent to fit in better once i left Minnesota.

  • @malachiwadsworth im from Minnesota too! nothing makes me feel dumber then having a Minnesotan accent in a place like New York.

  • @JRHhhify She's not from the Midwest, she was raised in England. Her accent is her actual one and authentic.

  • Jack Barrowman (Jack Harkness in Torchwood) has the same accent thing only his is American and Scottish. It's really interesting to see and hear it. But not unusual especially for individuals who have spent their formative linguistic years in 1 place and have moved to another place. Mischa Barton always has an English inflection in het American as well.

  • @fenerodine his name is actually John Barrowman, he only started to use an american accent when kids would tease him about his native scottish accent when his parents moved from scotland to america so John is actually Scottish and uses that when he is back home and slips into the american accent when he visits his family in america.

  • I will always love Gillian Anderson! X-Files the best American Show ever.

  • She lived in London from 2 to 12 years old, so the accent is genuine

  • i do the same thing, her accent depends on where she is at the moment. ha

  • I remember watching the X-Files and hearing her English accent slip through in some of her lines and thinking "am I going crazy or does she sound English sometimes???"

    well I guess I wasn't going crazy!!!

  • I find her quite classy and lovely...if only more of our girls were like this.

  • She was born in Chicago

  • Gotta love Gillian!! :) Complete legend! Long live Scully & Mulder <3

  • She's a limey? lololol that's awesome, very beautiful woman. Once again a true professional woman. With discipline and virtues which equate to success and respect by all. Fine Read headed woman. here here!!

  • I wonder what happens when sum1 speaks to her with an accent other than american or english, what accent would she revert to then? What about australian? Would she get confused then? lol.

  • ok so i was JUST watching X-Files (its paused right now!) and i got on YouTube, and accidentially clicked on this!! and the episode i just watched was all about luck... lol weirddd...

  • Can't understand a thing she's saying, but she can be real relaxing.

  • @heroineworshipper How can you not understand her?

  • all the american interviews she did were in an american accent. WTF

  • To those that think Gillian sounds "natural" speaking with a British accent; while I respect your opinions, I wholeheartedly disagree with them. Never, in one interview that she gave, during her "X-Files" career, did she use an English dialect. It wasn't until she starred in "Bleak House" and became an honorary British citizen, that she metamorphosed into a Brit. Personally, I think she sounds downright phony and almost comical. She's a great actress but this interview is awkward.

  • @defpoet28 When in doubt, go to imdb dot com. According to her profile there, she "Lived in London, England, from age 2 to age 11, then moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she was teased for her English accent." --That's a lot of time growing up to have a different accent. It also says that as of August 2005 she's "living in England with her (now ex-) husband, Julian Ozanne." and so it probably is natural for her to have reverted back to that accent.

  • I had NO IDEA she had an English accent!

  • I think her British accent is a little phony, sorry. You don't go from using American dialect to full British accent AND words.

  • @jlenoconel When in Rome, do as the Romans do. In any case she pretty much grew up with an English accent, if anything is manufactured it's her American accent.

  • @Marine4Life51 I don't believe that though.

  • @jlenoconel lol it doesnt matter whether you believe it, she says it herself.

  • @aspinate So does Madonna.

  • @jlenoconel So? My cousins are grew up in England, one till 12 and the other until 9 and they still keep the English accent when they talk to me. Although they deny it, when they are back in America and with their friends it reverts to their adopted american accent. They themselves said they tried to change their accent to fit in. Why should you not believe her? What reason does she have to lie about it?

  • @jlenoconel When in doubt, go to imdb dot com. According to her profile there, she "Lived in London, England, from age 2 to age 11 and is living in England since at least 2005, so it probably is natural for her to have reverted back to that accent. Language and linguistics are very fluidic things; they're not as black & white as you seem to think they are. I pick up the Irish accent quite easily when talking to friends from Ireland and I'm American (I also speak Gaeilge).

  • @Gaeilgeoir I lived in South Carolina, for seven years, and NEVER "adopted" a Southern accent. Your voice cannot simply "procure" an accent, simply by living in a particular country/region, for x amount of years. Gillian is AMERICAN. I'm quite knowledgeable of her background and upbringing. Again, throughout her whole career, up until she was in "House of Mirth," "Bleak House" and moved to the UK, she has always done interviews with an American accent.

  • @defpoet28 but she moved to london when she was 2. Returned to america at 11-13. She just made an effort to develop an american accent 'cause she was teased by schoolmates in the U.S. So now, she changes her accent depending on the location. It's quite a common thing, I've got couple of friends that do the same because they've lived in different places while growing up (not the teasing thing, they were lucky), no big deal

  • @defpoet28 Ah, so naturally, everyone is like you? Get your head out of your ass, idiot. SOME people NATURALLY pick up the speech patterns of where they happen to be, just as a the vikings learned the languages of the places they conquered instead of forcing everyone to learn Norse. And as I've already explained, she's lived there for quite some time. Nobody lives in a bubble, except you, obviously. What a fucking idiot...

  • @Gaeilgeoir Yes, everyone is exactly like me, you fucking nunce. Many thanks for your gross assertions, about me, when you don't know me, from someone you pass on the street.

However, if you happen to know Gillian, kindly ask her why she only uses a British accent, when she appears on British talk shows. I happen to adore England and the accent, but I don't go around imitating it and putting on heirs.

  • @defpoet28 I remember her talking about this in another interview once. Her English accent is her original one, she adopted an American accent when she moved to America to avoid bullying at school and that eventually became natural for her. So now she unconsciously lapses into an English accent when talking to English people, and an American accent when she is talking to American people.

  • @defpoet28 I ALREADY EXPLAINED TO YOU THAT SHE'S WASN'T VISITING ENGLAND WHEN THIS INTERVIEW WAS GIVEN. SHE LIVES IN ENGLAND NOW AND HAS FOR SEVERAL YEARS! GET IT THRU YOUR FUCKING HEAD, MORON! SOME PPL *DO* PICK UP THE LOCAL SPEECH PATTERNS OF WHERE THEY LIVE, PLUS SHE LIVED THERE WHILE GROWING UP. MAYBE *YOU* SHOULD GROW UP AND ACCEPT THE FACT THAT JUST CUZ *YOU* DON'T ADAPT TO YOUR ENVIRONMENT DOESN'T MEAN NO 1 ELSE SHOULD OR COULD. SHUT THE FUCK UP & DIT DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @defpoet28 She's putting HER original accent. If anything, when she changed her accent to a General American one after moving to the Midwest when she was 11, she was imitating and putting on theirs.

  • @jlenoconel You do if you raised there until you were 11.

  • She involuntarily changed her speech patterns because she was made fun of when she moved to the U.S.. It actually seems she is more comfortable speaking with an English accent in this interview.

  • A good friend of mine moved to London when she was 16 years old. She got married and had lived there ever since. We are now in our 30's. With her accent you would never believe she is American born and raised.

  • porn milf :D

  • I'd like to see Gillian on Eastenders with her english accent

  • This is a Dana Scully Hybrid, What happened to the real DAna Scully. :) :) :) :)

God , why didn't they use it in X-Files.

  • that's a MILF right there!

  • It's funny; she never uses her "accent" unless she's being interviewed on a British talk show. I realize she spent some of her formative years, in England, but she's obviously not British. It's kind of annoying, actually.

  • @defpoet28 She uses an English accent in the 2007 film Straightheads :-)

  • @Damnblastify This is true. I was just pointing out, that, it's bizarre that she pretends to be British for certain occasions. It's just...she's known for being Agent Scully, not Dame Judi.

  • @defpoet28 Agreed.

  • @defpoet28 Doesn't take much to annoy. I suppose I should get annoyed when Hugh Laurie puts on an American accent (which is really faked) in the show 'House'. I got better things to do with my time, though.

  • Damn she's hot.

  • is this the one from x-files? :o

  • omg !

is that Gillian tghe one who shits her self over spiders :OO

  • @alfred024 wtf?:)

  • but shouldnt her interview accent always be the same..i mean on letterman shes american..on this shes English..wonder if she gets told to do that..strange..

  • Hi Scully I ts me

  • She is so cute

  • Why does she have a British accent? She's from Chicago.

  • @SamhainTheDark she was born in chicago but her family moved to england and she lived there until she was 11 and then they moved back to the states. she lives there now as well with her children and boyfriend

  • @SamhainTheDark she lived in england for part of her childhood

  • @SamhainTheDark Aye, she grew up in North London, and so she's supposed saying "beeeeeeen", not "bin"... horrible accent.

  • her British side rocks!

  • @mechmove that's her REAL side.

  • @220773 Dude, she IS British. Her American accent is is the one she learned.

  • @BrokenDarkFire even worse then... how bad that "bin" thing is? Pure vomit to me.

  • @BrokenDarkFire No, she's American. Born in Chicago to American parents, lived most of her early life in the UK. Having a British accent doesn't make you Britsh.

  • @petitanglais Really? Oh, I always thought she was from England... my bad. ^_^ and yeah, I know that just cuz a person has a British accent doesn't make them British - pretty sure i messed up the wording there. I would know. ^_^

  • @BrokenDarkFire Meh, you live and learn. I thought Sinitta was British throughout my entire childhood, turned out she was American, but had grown up in the UK. What's worse is that I've actually made a reference to Sinitta, think I'll go and change my name by deed poll now. The shame.

  • she is scully?

  • Gillian and Diane Lane have something in common, they are actually getting BETTER looking as they age! Genetic lottery winners, as it were. This actually IS Gillian's natural speaking voice/accent/inflection. Her formative years were spent in The UK after all. Sigh . . . if only she were gay! (A girl can dream)!

  • One of the most Sexy People i can think of. Dont know why shes not reveling any thing. How dose she do that.

  • One of the most Sexy People i can think of.

  • now this is an actress. also sexy without wearing next to nothing

  • she was bot5n in Chicago, Illinois, but lived in england for a few years when she was a kid, i dont really know where her British accent comes from cause she lived in america for most of her life, she has an american accent in every interview ive seen bar this one, maybe it just comes to her naturally when shes over in Britain who knows.

  • Wow, freaky! I never heard her with a British accent before. :)) I just read her page on imdb (dot) com...Says she & her fam lived in London when she was 2-11yrs old, they relocated to L.A., and as an adult she moved back to London in '02 and (as of '06) still lives there. Cool to know! ^_^

  • Alright, I wish that "Jolley old chap" would ask an important question for once! Like what color undies this red headed beauty is sporting!!!! lol

  • i didnt even know she was english. :\

  • her accent swing like john barrowman is slightly bizare. but gillians english accent sounds natural so id imagine she must put on the american accent ?

  • ¿Donde puedo ver este video subtitulado en español?

  • @impalaUY Learn English.

  • @Gaeilgeoir learn to be tolerant of other peoples languages..youtube isnt an english only website and people should and will continue to leave comments in their own language, if you cant understand it, then thats your own problem, but dont push other people to only speak what you can understand

  • @Gaeilgeoir i also think its funny you tell somebody to speak english so you can understand it, but your whole profile is writen in IRISH, which is a dead language that nobody besides a few hundred irish people speak on a daily basis, i know this because im from ireland myself, and im nore sure what this word is in irish but in english we call it a hypocrite :)

  • @Jaymes420 Learn to read, asshole. I said LEARN English, not SPEAK English, stupid fuck. The comment wasn't even directed at YOU. Also, if Irish were a "dead" I wouldn't've been able to learn it, now would I? The fact is it's being taught all over the world, not just in Ireland. Why don't you learn to be less of an idiot.

  • @Jaymes420 I was complaining that "

impalaUY" asked in Spanish "where are the Spanish subtitles?" Well I'm fed up of pandering to ppl that are too lazy to learn English.

  • @Gaeilgeoir the european union does NOT recognize Irish as a european language anymore, thus making it a dead language,...and just cause its aparently being taught "around the world" doesnt mean jack shit, you can learn Kling on as a language if you wanted to, still dont mean shit, and im not an idiot, i merely hate intolerant assholes like you who bitch at somebody just because they ask for Spanish subtitles,

  • @Jaymes420

Look, I think Gaeilgeoir is a bigot. But, the EU recognized Irish as an official January 1, 2007, and it's spoken by hundreds of thousands of people. No one classifies it as a "dead" language.

  • @Jaymes420 It was only dead because the British gave us money to not speak it. Smoke that.

  • @Qwofacenosehead its definitely not spoken by hundreds of thousands of people as a first language, im from ireland and theres only a few little towns around ireland that speak it as a first language. although everybody here learns it in school, only about 1% of the population speak it on a daily basis

  • I don't think she's faking anything. I was born in England myself, but have lived in America for a long time. When I am talking to English people long distance from the US, they tell me I sound like a yankee. But when I go back to England, nobody notices anything different anything different from anyone else. I guess we subconsciously adapt to our surroundings.

  • @Wibblywoo12345 well, she was raised in london, until she was in h.s. i think. so i figure when she moved back to london, she got her accent back.

  • @Wibblywoo12345

i agree, she's not faking anything. Her parents were English, and whe was pretty much surrounded by English accent, so why shouldn't she sound English eh?

  • I love her accent. and what can be better for an actress to switch so easily between american and british???

  • loved her in The last king of scotland. was so beautiful and yet so sad.

  • She was born to American parents in England.her parents moved back to the states when she was 16.She saw a dialict coach when she dicided to become an actress.

  • and i gainedso much insight to her, only thus, lo, this year. shes stillmy girl :) i'd kiss her a right 'ere an now even though she ate a bug

  • gillian anderson is english you muppet... ha ha

  • so much sexier with an English accent.

  • I get the impression that her English accent is more natural to her than her American one which was manufactured in the first place to avoid bullying at school.

  • I agree with you... Very true indeed.

  • @Maxshard i couldent imagin her being piked on at school, why? I definetly wouldent pick on an Angel

  • @Maxshard I've read the same thing...

  • @Maxshard She was born in America but when she was young moved to London and then at early teens (roughly i think) she move back to america so she does have an english accent too

  • Will you shut the hell up about her accent!!!

  • yes, everybody listen to Lemmydeacaution for what they can can cannot discuss.

  • Her accent varies to her location. In an interview with Jay Leno, she spoke more with an american accent. It's says this on her wiki page.

  • there is something like "leaning towards your companion accent" thing. If I have expressed myself clearly.Maybe this what it is then.. Interesting..

  • her london accent is really mixing with her american... not clear at all

  • Man...

Seriously, LOL @ all the fucking losers flipping out over here accent.

"OMG WHY DUZ SHE TALK LIKE A BRITISH?!?!?"

Maybe because she grew up there?

Why are you watching this video if you know nothing about GIllian?

  • Comment removed

  • She grew up in England...

She reminds me on Kate Winslet in this...

  • Interesting how she can switch her accent.

  • CUTE girl!

  • Born in America, moved to England as a young child and then back to America so her accent will naturally change according to where she is or who's speaking to her. Plus she lives in London now or used to recently so it is probably easy for her to switch without really realising. I bet David finds it funny as he is with her for most of them and must notice the change more than most.

  • ha whoa it kinda cool how she can just switch between accents.

  • her accent changes to suit whatever, & where ever she is promoting somthing.

  • Chancer springs to mind

  • Only an anglo can look this good. Her folks must be from UK. Anderson is a Eng/Scots surname.

  • Wow, and I thought Anderson is a Scandinavian name. Thanks for making it clear!

  • @JamesGod08

well, most of non- african/native americans are from Europe. Unless there were native americans with the name McDonald, etc. They just came a long ass time ago, and I think Anderson is Scandinavian. I'm not trying to be slick neither.

  • Wow ive never heard her with an english accent

  • Me neither. I wonder why she's doing that?

  • @antred11

Because she grew up in England.

  • Yeah, I found out in the meantime. :)

    Hmm, she's so darn fine.

  • Damn! She's sexy with that English accent. I hope she's filthy..... :p

  • lol right after I read this she said "pound the pavement" :P

  • mmmmmmmm fucking hot

  • Never found smokers attractive.

  • Gillian grew up in England and lives there currently. She switches accents naturally, it's not something which is "put on" - just to clear that up.

  • Well I'm flemish (Belgium) I speak Dutch but a different kind of dutch that they speak in the Netherlands. Often when I go to the Netherlands hang arround for people for a while I pick up their way of speaking and think its "polite" so that they are able to 100% understand what I'm saying. Its odd I know but I can understand people doing it.

  • She grew up in England and from what I read, she picked up the accent. But, when she came back to the States, kids would make fun of her, so she changed her accent.

But I guess it's kind of like speaking different languages for her. You can just switch back and forth.

  • Ah ok, didn't know that.

  • I don't think she's flaunting it. She's mentioned it before where if she's around someone with an accent, hers slips out. Or if she's in England, it's just natural. For example, my dad grew up in St-John's, Newfoundland. They have a very specific accent. He doesn't have it.. but as soon as he speaks to someone from Newfoundland, it creeps back up. Same happens when he goes back for a visit.

  • A fine actress, Gillian is beautiful and charming always.

  • Gillian Anderson is the only woman I was hot for as a kid who was actually worth it. She's still gorgeous.

  • her british accent is sort of good

  • She look stunning!

  • waa waa , Why does anyone reli cares how she sounds, instead of complaining how she sounds , perhaps listen to what she saying ? lol

  • Even though she originally had an English accent, it feels so very odd that she should change the way she speaks depending on which country she's in.

Perhaps she thinks she's being polite?

Or maybe she feels that talking like she used to, is a way for her to relax and be herself?

I get a headache from all of this, though...

  • I think I understand.

I think British accent is like "old french", and american accent is more popular.

It's like Canadian or Swiss, they speek a strange French. and when canadian singers are in France they try to speek like us, because it's probably better to understand.

In France, we also have an accent if you live in the south or in the north, with different word.

annyway, thanks for the explain, and sorry for your headhache, and for my english to...

  • can you explain me what is the difference between american and british accent ? because I'm french and I speak like an american. (My teacher's high school say me that, i think it's because I passed few monts in the US).

For the French people I think it's easier to understand British, but I prefer American accent, it's more like french.

  • She is american but she live in London many years ;)

  • Is she sounding british ?

I thought she was american ?

  • wow she is pretty
