ive been playin for 6 months now and the only time i do chords is if theyre power chords for metal songs.... do i have to learn to play chords well to get better?? or can i keep just playing tabs??
@GenNarwhal I was the same way but i would really recamend you learn chords they wont take too long to learn and you can learn alot of differnt songs with the knowledge of chords. Hope that helped
@GenNarwhal A lot of famouse guitarists really didn't practice with the original chords, but thats usually because they were in bands that only played a certain genre. I do recommend you learn the basic chords. Its good to hone in on your guitar skills to play a lot more stuff. So says my Jazz Band teacher.
@UltiEd It basically looks like an Fmaj7 with an added finger on the first fret of the e. A beginners F if you will. The full F is as you say, a barre chord.
@Moodo1 Ah alright, thanks for the reply! Think I've seen something similar with other chords. So it's basically the same thing with maybe one note/tone being different? Anyways thanks!
@UltiEd No problem. The first fret of the e is an F tone. You´re basically just eliminating the F and the C tone from the E and A strings. The Fmaj7 is the same as he plays in the video but without the F on the e string, played from the D string and down. About the other chords you mention. Search here on YT for a lesson on slash chords, I believe thats what you´re thinking about. I may be wrong though ;-)
@Nobody2336 Tangerine by Led Zeppelin, Pretty easy. Kashmir by Led Zeppelin is in a different tuning(DADGAD) but still easy. Be specific. What type of music do you like?
@Nobody2336 i learned last kiss, covered by pearl jam, as my first song. chords are G,Em,C,D through the whole song and it has the same strum through the entire song also....d du udu. really simple and a great song.

@StillStuckLearning Pretty much Rock music. But the thing is my teacher has already taught us Kashmir and it can't be something he's showed us :/

an absolute beginner wouldn't know what strings to strum. 4 strings for D, 5 for C etc

Making this lesson must have been excruciatingly boring for you. But I can see how people would find it useful.
