  • i love the sound of the scribbles...

  • What was the black pen used to shade the first one?

  • @jweigand27 Any artist pen with a brush nib would do the exact same thing. Look for Faber-Castell or Pentel... they usually have fairly decent prices with great quality.

  • @jweigand27

Pentel Stylo Sketch Pen or Pentel Fountain Pen depending where you buy.

And the shading was done with a Pentel Pocket Brush.

  • Omg if I had enoug h talent to draw 1/100 as good as this it would be amazing?

  • I'm sorry but hodorowsky's metabaron is drawn better than any other comic I've ever seen, case closed ^^

  • I still can't believe they didn't get Frank Miller for one of these videos, I've been trying to figure out how he draws for years!

  • Travis, your pencil modeling is wonderful! Reminds me of something I am working on now. Those don't sound like Prismacolor pencils. What sort of gouache did you use to make the stars? I want to use a white paint for stars over Prismacolor but I fear it will be too waxy a surface to hold the white specs.

  • Nice demonstration of the modeling of form, great feathering with a brush pen!! Thanks!!!

  • Why is no one speaking? No explanations, nothing. :(

  • if i could draw like that, i would never leave my desk

  • what is that paint pen thing called

  • he was born the same day as me. dave gibbons.

  • i just... i cant even fathom the detail put into this. and they make it look so EASY. not even one screw up. damn

  • dezenha de mas vc tah de parabéns eu tbm sei dezenha mas assim naum vou faze um cuso tah mas vc é uma fera ?????

  • what is he using @1:53 ? What is it called? thanks in advance

  • @weward Pentel pocket brush pen.

  • monochromatic drawings are awesome

  • amazing artwork , but who did Dave Gibbons draw?

  • @andrith1798 green lantern

  • Masterful!!

  • ya, what kind of marker?

  • what kind of marker

  • Thank you very much for this gift!

  • your'e just awesome!!!

  • green lantern Dr manhatan??

  • not bad

  • Gibbons got fucked ending up in the same video as Charest. His drawing isn't "alright", it's goddamn awesome!

  • I love watching artist draw. to me it's usually better than any tutorial because the artist is speaking threw the drawing. That hole picture worth a thousand words? yeah. That's pretty much it.

  • What is that type of marker you are using that looks like a paintbrush. I'd greatly appreciate it. This is amazing art and style.

  • @lllBOOZERlll I'm not sure what the guy's pen brand is, but you can buy "brush tip" pens. I, personally, like Faber-Castell a lot... Lots of artists use those :)

  • @lllBOOZERlll Gibbons is using a Pentel Pocket Brush Pen - amazing pen, and is refillable too.

  • Que lapiz utilizas?Y que rotulador para entintar?

  • Que lapiz utilizas?

  • what kind of pen do you use for shadow?

  • I would give up my first child to Satan if I could draw like Travis.

  • @SukhberS Wtf? haha. yeah sometimes I think about giving up something special for being a god in music or drawing.

  • @SukhberS = u would go to hell for drawing like Travis

  • @marutazu77 His style is truly unholy and out of this world.

  • The Superman was very very very good! The Green Lantern that looked like Dr. Manhattan was alright.

  • great vid. anyone know what the white pen travis was using is?

  • @danielpicci he is just using a white coloured pencil and a sable brush (i think size 0) with Bleedproof White opaque ink. hope this helps. :)

  • @Diego1999ist thanks man! much appreciated.

  • @danielpicci no problem. I just like helping. :)

  • Travis Charest is the King of this shit

  • i wish i owned that superman pic, damn

  • wooooooow

  • White pencils your friend!

  • Dr. Manhattan is an awesome character

  • @SamvoltS It's actually a re-imagined Green Lantern, hence the logo on the chest. They otherwise look identical though.

  • @danmcdaid yeah very right dude

  • Great work!

  • how can someone dislike this video...your my hero dude!!!

  • Anybody know the brush dave gibbons is using?

  • @tehWudge

    It's a Pentel Pocket Brush...

  • /watch?v=38UVKQys6Bk

  • Travis charest obbviously dosnt neeed photoshop ;)

  • @LukelearOriginal Nobody needs photoshop.

  • 7 people don't have pen to draw?

  • I'd love to see the full video of Travis Charest drawing that Superman piece from start to finish. Any idea if that film exists?

  • love that superman drawing...truely a work of art

  • this is so great to see, cos u dont often get the chance to see these guys at work

  • That Fountain Pentel that Dave used is an amazing marker...don't think they make them anymore though. Anyone know?

  • I wonder if he was one of the concept artists on dc universe online, i know jim lee worked on concept art for dcuo

  • waw, plz, what's the name of the first black pencil??

  • Definite Ditko influence in the first one.

  • great texture on the moon

  • I'd love to sit down and watch Travis Charest draw a full scale picture from start to finish. the guy is amazing! Travis Charest, Adam Hughes and Drew Struzan are probably some of the best illustrators of all time

  • Bravi !

    I like it !

  • IM IN LOVE!!!!!!!!!....LOL

  • The detail on Superman and the Moon in the backgorund is incredible.

  • I'm jealous. These guys work so quickly!

  • Thank you for posting these videos. It's so cool to see someone who's great at what they do, and to think of all the work involved in creating all the art that goes into a "simple" comic.

If you want some examples of "live action" super powers, feel free to click on my screen name to the left (Marknew91) and look at the short uploaded clips (I play RPGs so seeing superpowers is helpful).

It'd be cool to think one of my silly 1970s TV clips heled inspire an artist!

  • Thumbs up for those who feel really sleepy when watching this video. I like to watch these kind of videos before I go to sleep. massage videos can be really relaxing too.

  • I love the simplicity of the form in the shading on the body. The moon being more detailed and a higher level of contrast than the face is a mistake. It takes way to much focus off of the central object. I get that he was trying to include a soft ambient light to the form, but it doesn't really work.

  • nice inking

  • can anyone tell me what that brush like medium was that travis charest used with the white ink???

  • @KarryEss2k9 it's not Dr. Manhatten it's the Green Lantern

  • I like it, maybe they could add music to the drawing process. But boy do they make it look easy.

  • @raiderloco01 No way. The really great thing about these videos is that there is no music. I don't think I'm alone on this one either as many of the comments express the same appreciation. Too many drawing videos with lame and overpowering soundtracks. Watching these is calming and meditative

  • @ritter89

Excellent point on sounds of a working pencil. (No pun intended.)

  • @ritter89 Completely agree. DennisSweatt Com

  • @ritter89 agreed. I love to hear the soft sound of pencil scratching paper

  • @ritter89 Nice name.

  • @ritter89 very true thanks 4 noticing

  • @ritter89 yes.

  • @ritter89 I'm with you on that. Can't stand being subjected to someone else's musical tastes.

  • Still don't understand how these guys draw on those inclined desktops, the shit is so hard to do

  • @HDibbles

kills my neck if i DONT use an inclined table

  • @bblue82 It used to hurt mine too but I got so used to it I don't feel it anymore, maybe that's a bad thing though

  • One word... TRAVIS!

  • Dr manhattan is the first one

  • whos the character that dave gibbons is drawing?

  • Anyone else minutely examining the tools these great artists are using, the pens, markers and brushes? I am.

  • awesomely incredibly amazingly cool!!!

  • dan ganas de dibujar solo con verlos hacer lo que hacen.

  • dan ganas de dibujar solo con verlos hacer lo que hacen.

  • thats impressive

  • that is way to good

  • Dave Gibbons definitely got the best pencil ever! I want that thing!

  • TRAVIS CHAREST IS JUST INSANE HOW EASY DOES THE OTHERS DO IT BUT THESE MAN IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!

    DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMM

  • 3:14 did he fart

  • NO FAST FORWARD :) Yay

  • thanks for the upload, and leaving it with no music =)

im amazed how they dont make any mistakes

  • What are these pens he uses?

  • man wow your line are so tight and clean just pure awesomeness i need to get my line s like that have any pointers

  • what are the types of pencils they use that make the scratch noise?

  • It's Jon Stewart, the Afro-American Green Lantern. He took over the role for a while when Hal Jordan wasn't feeling well after the confrontation with Parallax. He also joined Justice League and had a love interest in both Hawkgirl and Vixen. As Green Lantern he is more serious and takes more responsibility than Hal Jordan.

  • what kind of pencil you use?

  • lol it's sounds like he's maturbating if your only paying attention to the sounds...XD

  • Dr. Manhattan goes Green Lantern

  • Does Anyone recognize the pen that Dave Gibbons was using to ink the Green Lantern? Also, Superman's a D-cup! Who knew?

  • Dave Gibbons is the fucking man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dave Gibbons = Genious

  • instead of showing us how he drew superman, he shows us the freaking moon... dissapointing

  • @petros30678 but he shows that white pencil still exists

  • travis is a beast

  • i draw almost as good as u just not the muscular part...so much lines!

  • 3:15 - fart

  • 3:15 - fart

  • 3:15 - fart

  • all superheros are jacked

  • could watch this all day.. the superman sketch was effin sick!!!

  • AMAzing this guy, is so tallented

  • @MrChochol1 these*

  • the definition of talent, mashallah

  • one word Brilliant

  • the freedom of creation on that superman one is inspiring. Thanks for posting this up now i wanna draw em tooo.

  • hes using a different coulour paper for the supefr man pic i was wondering how the hell got the white on the paper very clever pic looks sick

  • i have a question,how do you determine shading?

  • Amazing work. Inking has to be the most challenging part of the process in my opinion. My hat goes off to you guys.

  • DANG! That Superman was pretty good. I can draw like that, but i'm just bad at inking. That's why most of my artwork has to be saved quickly, or it will be gone. :(

  • @TheDylandProductions Do you live under water? You know they have sprays for that? Google or Bing or whatever you like to use 'preserve it spray'

  • hello great artist, how can I get the pen what I see in the minute 3, "feather-pen?"

  • dave gibbons' inking is amazing.

  • what paper did you use on the green lantern concept?

  • Fantastic work man. Love the preciseness.

  • OUTSTANDING WORK!

  • that is the best drawing of superman and moon i have ever seen awesome dude

  • ... which comics you work for...

  • i like how he draw superman :DD

  • The confidence that you guys have with inking is commendable.

  • The worst thing that they don't need that much time as we need ...

  • he looks like the guy of ""happy day´s "" haha =) but thats a really good draw , but i draw 100 times better than him.. :)

  • Who was drawing Superman?

  • @iDraw3G Travis Charest

  • this pen is a faber casttle b ?

  • what kind of brush did the first one use???

  • good to know that the pros draw there drawings slowly...my drawings look more sketchy compared to this one.

  • @martyndavidson stan lee did some writing for dc called "stan lee presents" he did some stuff with flash too... look it up

  • Can someone please tell me the BEST brand of colour pencils?

  • The superman one was good, and i just noticed, atleast in that drawing, superman looks like David Hasselhoff lol

  • wow green lantern was such a good drawing...

  • I need more of these! They're awesome!

  • the superman one was fukin awesome blew my mind

  • i got that brush pen

  • @martyndavidson What does DC stand for?

  • is it me or dave gibbons feels a little horny while doing dr. manhattan?

  • Travis > Dave

  • dave gibbons is the shit

  • Wow!! again I take out my sombrero!!

  • Those "Fountain Pentel" pens are hard to find.

I don't think that they are being made anymore.

I guess when Dave Gibbons was drawing with it in this video, the video may be an old one.

    Damn!

  • Certainly beautiful artwork, though I'd go insane trying to draw in silence - not a fan of that kind of work environment.

The pen scratching on the first drawing was making my teeth hurt. Yikes.

  • Love that there's no music playing in the background like all the other videos. Hearing the scratch noises make it more immersive.

  • @CagedTurkey agreed!

  • Genius...Amazing!!! No Words!

  • Dave Gibbons is a genius.

He is a true comic book artist. Every time I read Watchmen I am more and more amazed by his work.

  • can someone tell me what was used on the superman drawing? are they just regular black/white pencil crayons?

  • @supaflykai I believe they are prisma color.

  • the pen at 2.00 mins is a super ink

  • What's the pen he used at 2:00 called?

  • the first one is beautiful, just magnificent. Outstanding, and it seems that he barley put effort into GL.

  • My first time seeing Travis Charest; good stuff.

  • Were do you get the grey paper?

  • most art supplies stores have toned paper in many colors. They come in large sheets and you can cut them down to size, and they are most commonly used for Pastel painting, but they are also great for illustration like this.

  • Stan Lee was hired by DC a few years ago to create his version of famous DC heroes, Illustrated by the greatest at the time. There was "Stan Lee's Superman" (Illustrated by John Buscema, and I have a copy... It turned out to be Big John's last published work), as well as Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Justice League and others.

  • Travis Charest's art just blows my mind every time

  • 1:05 he kinda messed up on the right foot, but other than good job =)

  • The best Superman picture I've ever seen...
