lol I know people that tree cougars with two or three 15 pound terriers.... that’s it. They are tuff but given the opportunity they will run. That being said the same people have had the same terriers killed by 35 pound coyotes let alone a Wolf. Those that are arguing multiple wolves could kill the lion, keep in mind that when it is 2 vs 1 the difficulty becomes 4x more difficult for the animal that is alone than when it is 1 on 1. That's because with 2 vs 1, the 2 animals are not only double the health the 1 animal has to defeat, but they are also double the attack. And 3 vs 1 makes it 6x more difficult for a solo animal, etc.

Also, cougars are solitary creatures. They only hunt and defend their territory. They don't like to fight unless provoked, unlike the wolf. ONe on one..........NO CHANCE for the wolf, but one on one isn't the way nature intended these two to meet, thats why wolves travel in PACKS AND MALE COUGARS have a territory of 300 or so square miles in where they exist. WOlves need the pack, ml's need only themselves.

I don't know where they get these videos from but in the wild, a wolf is not stupid enough to try an single handedly take on Mountain Lion. There's a reason they travel in packs - strength in numbers.

Those that are arguing multiple wolves could kill the lion, keep in mind that when it is 2 vs 1 the difficulty becomes 4x more difficult for the animal that is alone than when it is 1 on 1. That's because with 2 vs 1, the 2 animals are not only double the health the 1 animal has to defeat, but they are also double the attack. And 3 vs 1 makes it 6x more difficult for a solo animal, etc.

@solidsnackumzzz Well, thank you. It's basically the same concept for hurricane damage. Double the speed equals quadruple the damage, because not only is the wind hitting objects twice as fast, but the wind has twice the momentum making it more difficult to slow it down.

the only reason the lion won is because it locked down its bite first and was able to keep it from moving with it's claws if that wolf would have bit first which has a stronger bite force by atleast 200 pounds that cat would be gone

...in Africa Lions kill Hyenas for fun, but sometimes a Lion can be outnumbered by about 8-9 Hyenas and killed, it is the same situation in North America, Cougars of course when faced with a lone Wolf would of course kill that Wolf pretty easily but when faced with 3-4 wolves the odds are in the Wolves favour.

They are the kings of their land, without a doubt. Wolves however are smart enough even as a group to simply avoid large predators. They chose every battle wisely. The controversy here is unnecessary. Some simple research could clear up everyones doubts easily. A single wolf is likely a scout or an exile from a pack.

Pound for pound, a cat is stronger and faster than a dog. A wild animal like a cougar would own any wolve. Plus the cougar has weapons a wolve doesn't, flesh tearing claws. Bone breaking jaws as well. Any wolve would be outmatched.

Also, cougars are solitary creatures. They only hunt and defend their territory. They don't like to fight unless provoked, unlike the wolf. So when a cougar goes berserk, the wolf just better get the hell out of its sight. It better run for the hills. The wolf is next on the menu. When a wild cat has to fight for survival, it gets nasty.
