I love how people that know nothing about engines but act like they do (soilentgr33n) make comments on the vid. Engines class 101 is in session. Torque is distributed from the crank. Minus a loss at the transmission, driveshaft, diff and tires all of this is depending on weight of each item, including the weight of the vehicle on the items. Torque is what causes wheelies not god damn hp. Hp is the force that keeps things in motion. If you dont know what ur talking about u shouldnt talk at all!

I was there for that wheelie show when that guy did that. His name is Steve Blue, he had a 632 CID naturally aspirated engine under the hood, and the wheelstand he did was 480 feet long which won the contest. I'm glad that he beat Brian Ambrosini that day who drives that ugly AMC Gremlin. Anyway, Steve Blue's 632 CID engine had lots of torque. I saw his car and talked to him after he did that wheelstand, and there was a crack in his hood, but I believe he won $20K that day for doing that.

@wheelsupz28 you misunderstood what I was trying to say, obviously its a drag car. some people make cars just for wheelie competitions and some ppl just pull the wheelie bars off. the guys that just do wheelie comps. set up their brakes differently, kind of like a line lock system where they can brake the left or right rear tires separately. that comment was made quickly and ended up making me sound like a moron lol. I also drag race, never done the wheelie contests

how much torque does it take to lift the wheels? easy just calculate the entire weight of the car from the center of the rear wheels to the nose then multiply the max real wheel torque (-FT-.lbs) by the length of the car from the center of the real wheels to the nose. if the sum of the torque figure is greater than the weight you can lift the front wheels and ofcourse the tires must have maximum traction
