  • Boxing's been good to me... For many different reasons. Cosell's, will be much different than Ali's.. That's the point... ( but, I'm still with you, Ali :)

  • so beautiful.

  • Amazing.

  • Amazin dude you ROCK

  • Ben Folds for Jebus.

  • Randy Pooman

  • Wait, did he write this for Howard Cosell or Muhammad Ali? Here he says it's for Howard but on another video he says it's for 'a big hero of his growing up' Muhammad Ali.

  • It's funny, I, by no means, love this song, but this arrangement gives it such a boost.

  • great arrangement

  • Boxing's been good to every vote

  • I've never heard about Ben Folds before and I'm stunned by this performance.

  • Bette Midler did a great cover of this song on one of her albums. It's how I found out about it. Ben Folds sings and plays it wonderfully.

  • According to Wikipedia, Ben Folds is from Winston-Salem, NC, although it doesn't explicitly say he was born there. And also according to Wikipedia, Howard Cosell was born in Winston-Salem, NC. Coincidence?

  • I actually like it more with just the piano and Ben, it's so much more pure. This is still amazing, but that's only because Ben Folds plays it. Which thus overrules any imperfections. 'Nuff said.

  • Such a good song. This is a really cool version.

  • HAPPY BOXING DAY! Uh, it is about this song right? Canadia is funny.

  • one of my fave ben folds songs

  • Who is Howard that he mentions?

  • Howard Cosell, the sports journalist/announcer

  • Fantastic...

It annoys me how someone with this much talent is virtually unheard of in Britain, like not one of my mates has even heard of Ben Folds. Unreal

  • Im here in the United States and every single person I have talked to, besides my best friend, cannot come to appreciate ben folds at the same level we do, i dont get it...hes a fuckin genius!

  • amen my friend amen

  • @RF720121389

I'm in the US and I've been a HUGE fan since 96'. Not sure what my geography has to do with it... but i certainly appreciate his music on a level beyond typical artists

  • @RF720121389 you've been talking to the wrong Americans.

  • @yomanimus fuck, meant to hit the thumbs up button, my bad. But yes, wrong Americans indeed. For example, he should talk to the Americans at Ben Folds concerts around the U.S. of which, there are many!

  • @RF720121389 get new friends.

  • In the UK we need to be told what to like, Kaiser Chumps for example. We only like bands whose choruses have "lalala" in them so we can join in and sing out of tune. As a musician, I despise the lack of appreciation for good music in this country, especially piano-led stuff like this.

  • fuck, i disagree. for my money, brits have much better taste in music. even the beach boys aren't as properly appreciated in the US as they are in the UK.

  • Well isn't that western culture in general. we are force- fed mainstream entertainment and most of it is cookie cutter garbage just existing for the quick buck that comes out of our pocket

glad some of us explore new music, and thanks to the internet we get to see more then what comes through on the radio/TV.. bff is unique b/c for a while they held that mainstream interest w/o losing this rare and beautiful sound.. (like radiohead.. not in style, but in this metaphor)

  • Medicore Performers rule the charts while the real talent is kept at mediocre levels.

  • this is the most intelligent comment i have ever seen on youtube. all the real music with soul and meaning is kept underground and unheard of. im a musician, and i appreciate good music, and this pisses me off when the best bands get all the worst shit thrown at them

  • I know (i know that is an old comment)!

  • maybe it's best that way

Ben Folds is motivated by his music, not by his profits

  • i know and i am extremely grateful for him and the other artists ,like him

  • @HomeReality This song hits me like no other....it is about life. I want to have this played at my funeral.

  • @HomeReality how long did it take you to figure that out?

  • @HomeReality Mediocre levels? He's playing with a symphony orchestra...

  • not to nitpick...but a bit too fast. Loses some of its emotional appeal. Otherwise a good performance.

  • I just love how his voice cracks on the last line. Perfect. Such a good song.

  • the piano needs a touch up (tuning) ouch ... hurts the ears somewhat. unisons are way out.

  • Like a young Randy Newman that can sing

  • One of Ben's most brilliant songs, and nobody knows about it.

  • Are you kidding? It's one of my favorites.

  • Yeah I didn't know existed until I went to one of his concerts and he played, and now it's one of my favorite songs.

  • how can people not eat this up he's so honest i LOVE this guy.totally posting this. has boxing been good to you?

  • It's a sin that this video doesn't have more views.

  • im surprised how well this sounds

  • Wow. He's come a long way since the days I sat with him in Mrs. Dunning's English class at Reynolds High School in Winston Salem. Of course, we always knew he'd do this. Why'd it take so long for the world to catch on?

    Too much Bon Jovi!

  • SUCH a good song. I just don't understand why it didn't catch on to more people.

The ending in this video really captures the frustrations of a great boxer (Ali) as he realizes that his career's winding down just as his interviewer's (Cosell's) career is being established over his work.

  • great
