Boxing's been good to me... For many different reasons. Cosell's, will be much different than Ali's.. That's the point... ( but, I'm still with you, Ali :)
Wait, did he write this for Howard Cosell or Muhammad Ali? Here he says it's for Howard but on another video he says it's for 'a big hero of his growing up' Muhammad Ali.
According to Wikipedia, Ben Folds is from Winston-Salem, NC, although it doesn't explicitly say he was born there. And also according to Wikipedia, Howard Cosell was born in Winston-Salem, NC. Coincidence?
I actually like it more with just the piano and Ben, it's so much more pure. This is still amazing, but that's only because Ben Folds plays it. Which thus overrules any imperfections. 'Nuff said.
Im here in the United States and every single person I have talked to, besides my best friend, cannot come to appreciate ben folds at the same level we do, i dont get it...hes a fuckin genius!
I'm in the US and I've been a HUGE fan since 96'. Not sure what my geography has to do with it... but i certainly appreciate his music on a level beyond typical artists
@yomanimus fuck, meant to hit the thumbs up button, my bad. But yes, wrong Americans indeed. For example, he should talk to the Americans at Ben Folds concerts around the U.S. of which, there are many!
In the UK we need to be told what to like, Kaiser Chumps for example. We only like bands whose choruses have "lalala" in them so we can join in and sing out of tune. As a musician, I despise the lack of appreciation for good music in this country, especially piano-led stuff like this.
fuck, i disagree. for my money, brits have much better taste in music. even the beach boys aren't as properly appreciated in the US as they are in the UK.
Well isn't that western culture in general. we are force- fed mainstream entertainment and most of it is cookie cutter garbage just existing for the quick buck that comes out of our pocket
glad some of us explore new music, and thanks to the internet we get to see more then what comes through on the radio/TV.. bff is unique b/c for a while they held that mainstream interest w/o losing this rare and beautiful sound.. (like radiohead.. not in style, but in this metaphor)
this is the most intelligent comment i have ever seen on youtube. all the real music with soul and meaning is kept underground and unheard of. im a musician, and i appreciate good music, and this pisses me off when the best bands get all the worst shit thrown at them
Wow. He's come a long way since the days I sat with him in Mrs. Dunning's English class at Reynolds High School in Winston Salem. Of course, we always knew he'd do this. Why'd it take so long for the world to catch on?
SUCH a good song. I just don't understand why it didn't catch on to more people.
The ending in this video really captures the frustrations of a great boxer (Ali) as he realizes that his career's winding down just as his interviewer's (Cosell's) career is being established over his work.

It's funny, I, by no means, love this song, but this arrangement gives it such a boost.

I've never heard about Ben Folds before and I'm stunned by this performance.

Bette Midler did a great cover of this song on one of her albums. It's how I found out about it. Ben Folds sings and plays it wonderfully.

Fantastic...
It annoys me how someone with this much talent is virtually unheard of in Britain, like not one of my mates has even heard of Ben Folds. Unreal

Medicore Performers rule the charts while the real talent is kept at mediocre levels.

not to nitpick...but a bit too fast. Loses some of its emotional appeal. Otherwise a good performance.
