The term Rat Rod is relatively new - 10 years at most. Never had rat rods "back then". I'm from "back then". This is a cool functional work of art however it is rusty and "back then" no single part would wind up on your car without at least a rattle can paint job. The poorest rodder would get whatever he needed from the junk yard and spray it flat black!

Its a rat rod if the guy thinks it is or not. Simply put, A "rat rod" is an old car put back on the road using parts off old cars and junk piles. Ever road by a house,(call em pack rats) you know the kind that has like 15 junk cars around it rusting away and thought... I think the roof of that car would look good on mine

By the way, the definition of Hot Rod is any vehicle that has been modified for performance. Yes, this is not 100% traditional. Technically, a honda civic can be a hot rod, it's just a different type guys.

Respectfully, the 1948 designation is only specific to the NSRA, National Street Rod Association, and even they have opened their membership restrictions slightly due to dwindling membership numbers. A "Street Rod is 48-49 and older. While there is no actual definition for Hot Rod, Wiki has a pretty easy to understand which is "...typically American cars with large engines modified for linear speed." But, when hot rodding started, pretty much all you had was American cars.

Im not a ratrod fan at all but theyre normally built by young guys that are going to keep rodding alive and many will build more quality looking rods as they grow older..... someone else posted your rod under this guys name, not him, so dont take it out on a young guy that has a rep as a good guy...
