This happened to a flattop just a couple of months ago. Do not buy a flattop because the maker lies and says it will never happen. He is lulling his followers into a false sense of security and putting a lot of people at risk. It happens to them and then he tries to not let the public know about it. It can happen just know that a lot of power can do it and if your dealer says his will never do it, run don't walk away.
This is Craig Squillante crap. I bought one and let me tell you , I have had nothing but problems, problems, and more problems. Not only with the quality , but the customer service. If you like gettting hurt, or ripped off, then Craig is your man! I have NEVER seen him fly a PPG. He is full of Excuses of why he dont fly... Mostly because he says its boring.
We all know you are a super, You have promoted yourself all over the place.... yeah you are a good pilot.... but stop the Flat commercial crap.... perhaps try and explain what the problem was.....
@rzys7789 - This was a Phoenix PPG design. Why would anyone buy or fly a motor unit built and engineered by someone who doesn't fly paramotors. It was a major torque problem due to bad design. Buy a quality, proven motor unit and this won't happen to you.
It looks like you have a black devil 172 cc. I do too.Mine pushes on my left shoulder , but yours was on the right and then got a riser twist to the right also . How could that be ? Was it touque induced or was you lines tangled? How much do u weigh? Cled
I was the pilot. The incident occurred when from a serious design flaw in the motor unit. The risers were able to come together in flight allowing the motor torque to easily twist me in the opposite direction. I sustained injury to one leg and was on crutches for about a week. I was lucky I was not more seriously hurt. Mo
@Airparamo . hey, that's secret revealed. fortunately, not much happened. the torque with is understandable. what is this motor? how much hp has the? thank you for your posting here. Greetings Udo
Buy a Flat Top:). If you just stick with the best equipment on the market it is well worth it for safety and performance. If you don't want to mess around with your life just call the guys at U-Turn USA 800-707-2525
@gilessmokey No definitely not. The Flat Top has fixed hand points which make it extremely stable and resistant to riser twists. That has never even once happened on a Flat Top. There is a huge difference. You definitely don't want to make the mistake of what you are suggesting because it can and will cause you major problems.
This happened to a Flat-top pilot named Hoyt Patton. It was on national news. That's the unit Dell Schanze promotes all over the internet, right?

Favorite PPG video! Everybody knew what was going to happen. Love the crowd as he starts twisting while STILL ON THE GROUND. This is a classic!!!!

i am not on this video. i get the clip from a friend.
I can only guess, but I it is clear. too much power and torque, and pilot weight are not enough.

WHAT CAUSED THE PILOT TO SWING?
rzys7789 2 years ago
the torque of prop. prop turn right and the rest turning in other direction. may be the engine has a lot power .
