  • Anal Retentive Model Building

  • I've been making models for a long time but have stopped for a few years. I was never that great but my models turned out okay. I want to get back into it and watching these videos really has shown me things that I never even considered doing before. Keep it up and thanks for the videos.

  • Please tell me how I can avoid or effectively remove brush marks when i paint

  • @Gauzl: Thin the paint with the best thinner you have available. Most paints come too thick as supplied ...they need thinning. Use the correct size brush for the area you are painting, larger the area then larger the brush. Lightest colour first then darker etc etc.

Best option is to invest in an airbrush, it will transform your results.

  • @digglyda yes two days ago i bought an airbrush online

  • @Gauzl: Great! The best option for any airbrush is a silenced compressor. More money and lots of it but once you've spent out on one it can last for years.

  • @digglyda I just bought a delti high output aircompressor

  • Is this 1/48 or 1/72 model kit ?

  • @diepvien004b 1/72 says on the packet

  • :O I understand EVERYTHING now! Thx for the series!

  • @Mittylite

I know I got a Concorde (revell) before Christmas and the paint has pretty much wrecked it cus the brush marks and the paints turned cream :s

  • I remember the first time I opened thinner.

I turned around to use it, and by time I turned back around it was done T.T

  • Hi, very nice tutorial I just have a question:

I see you use testors paint, are you using these right out of the box? Because when I use my revell enamel paint I get brush marks and it isnt very good. Thanks

  • Pretty sure I have that exact Fighter Aircraft compendium :)

  • I see you know how to use a magnifying glass !

  • Your tutorials are great im new to plastic plane models ive only made 2 with starter basic stuff but im going to upgrade at christmas

    ps, ive subbed

  • Great Video. I'm trying to aim my videos to the beginer and novice as well as intermediate moddelers.

  • reminds me so much of me father, bulduing planes with him, him teling me stories when he as a pilot..thank you for the memories

  • ? my paint just runs off.. what did i do wrong? i washed the parts.. did i not leave them in the water long enough? 30 sec or so

  • Nice.. I just bought a 1:48 A-10 Warthog. My first model I intend to take time on so thanks for posting this.

  • love the accent

  • Lots of great advice. Thanks!

  • very nice. good work.

  • one person glued the model in a ball

  • I am never that organized

  • You used garage band right? For the music? And what's your accent? It sounds either Russian (or someplace near Russia) or Spanish.

  • i have just got the supermarine spitfire MkVb

  • Too bad that, after all the work, the decal on the left wing is 180° wrong!

  • i got a huge b-1b bomber from mi grandpa and its is (not lying) almost 3 feet in length. thanks for the tips! :D

  • Notice what he said while opening the box at 1:12! "This will be one of the most exciting steps of the whole construction process." LOL. The timing was a bit funny/ironic. But yes, this is a very very awesome video. I am so going to build these in a few weeks.

  • Excellent. Where did you get the background music from? Thanks

  • hi

I have got the last b-17 f "memphis belle" flying fortress in the UK

  • @M1ZXG That is a nice model to build!

  • @IncaLandInteractive its 1:48 so looking forward to starting it. i was inspired by the film. i'm only 11yrs but even my dad has learnt some things from your video.

  • @IncaLandInteractive where i can find this green table????

  • my uncle is definitely an avid kit modeler and he also got my interest. It looks like I want to start with 1/72 scale but I am not sure how to select my first airplane model kits. They seems to have different difficulty levels but I also don't want it to easy.

What should you recommend to us, new comers, to start with? Thx, DEFIER.

  • @IIIDEFIERIII Hi, I think 1/72 is a good model scale to start and stay with. You should choose an airplane that you really like. You should ask yourself what kind you like, WWI, WWII, Jets, moderns, etc. Get good reference materials, like photos and try to make it look as real as possible. Take your time, don't try to hurry and finish it. Pay attention to details. Maybe start with a single engine airplane. Jets can be easier than propeller airplanes, most of the time they have less parts.

  • Thank you very much for the tutorial! I have so far built 6 model planes that, lets say, dont look very professional :P. But this certainly helped me a lot! The music is also fitting of the relaxing nature of the hobby :).

  • @runway34r Thank you! If you like the hobby, you will just get better and better.

  • gotta love the accent!

  • @giotheutuber ha ha ha...Thanks!

  • @IncaLandInteractive where are you from?

  • YOU ARE AWESOME!!!! and your video is more like a documentary !!! WOW!!! I love the way you pay attention to every little detail and give tips even on safety issues ! And your working table looks more like a NASA command desk ! Everything is so impecable and flawless!!!

  • @Dustss Thank you!

  • what other planes have you built?

  • @bugone13 I have built many, like the NA-50, PT-17, AT-6, F-86, F-100, B-29, A-37B, A6M3... mostly WWII airplanes. You can see photos on my website.

  • What book is that on 3:27?

  • song put me to sleep

  • man i LOVE this guys accent XD

  • u have sum kind of accent, when u said de-tail, u meant detail, but i like ur accent however, its kinda catchy xD

  • where's his airbrush set? 'cause i didn't see it on the workbench

  • Where did you get this kit from?

  • can I use acrylic paint?

  • @1lu2ma3ca yes you can use enamel paint it just takes a few hours undisturbed to dry

  • Why don't you cut the parts down first??

Think. You paint the part, after you cut is down, the unpainted area will stay there. And after this you have to remove the rest palstic from the part. MORE unpainted area after polishing.

After you can paint them AGAIN.

  • Great video! I'm getting back into model building & my first model (P-51D Mustang) turned out "ok", but I know it could have been much better. The absolute best tip I took from this video was to paint the parts BEFORE cutting them off the parts frames. EXCELLENT TIP!!! Also washing your parts & scraping paint from the areas to be glued. Thanks for the advice!!! I'm looking forward to your parts 2 & 3 of your series.

  • Do you know if there is a video on how the plastic model kit`s actually comes to life?

I feel i know very little about the actual production process of a plastic model kit..

  • he's a gringo dude! :D

  • very nice.... the video was very interesting :D

  • My favorite part of making a model is looking at the decals

  • what king of paint do you use ?!

  • @acvaticlifE Testors

  • @acvaticlifE LOL if you had watched the video properly you would of seen on the bottle it said Testors ;-)

  • Very well done.

  • I'm back! I used to build models when I was a child and now I am going to start again! Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Ha, sounds like Father Guido Sarducci

  • hehehe, Speedy Gonzalez makes model aircraft!

  • @Rentaghost76 shut up

  • @krinkles45 just kidding

  • @Rentaghost76 ha ha ha ha!!!

  • No primer?

  • No primer?

  • Wonderful video (especially the painting portion). I'm embarrassed to say I have never painted the parts before detaching them. Just goes to show, you can teach an old dog new tricks.

  • Thanks!

  • you don't use primer?

  • damn your good at this and you have a lot of patience! :D

  • It is not a very appropriate song for this kind of video!

  • I have a question, did you enamel or acrylic paint? Do you put thinner in your paint before painting.

  • Wonderful video. Very enjoyable viewing. Many thanks for taking the time to do this.

    cheers

    Jim

  • What is the cleaning mixture for the plastic parts

  • @TheMudkipArmy water and soap

  • Yeah nice except that the stuff on that table costs $500! If you want to do it right.

  • thank you for these!!!! i sub'd and the way u shaved down the sprews is verry dangerous (8:27) ! i have done that before and almost lost a thumb! i usually use sandpaper to smooth out the nubs left over from the removing of parts! best of luck!

  • I'm just starting to adopt this hobby. This video is really very good as well as helpfull.I'm having two questions.(1)Can I use ethyl alcohol as the thinner?(2)can I use ethyl alcohol to mix two colors (I'm good enough in watercolor, but I really have no idea about hose colors which are insoluble in water)?

  • @alex9euge Shazam says 快乐编缘 - 曾贤德

  • Grate tutoriam men, i love aircraft modeling !!!

  • Hello everyone just 2 ask i new to modeling (not completed any real kits) and i have to ask is it sensible to jump straight into a 1:72 Scale C-17 Globemaster III resin kit?

  • @sphinxrising58 im not trying to disagree or agree... lol but i lov the way models look and how sexy they are with paint/... but even when i make them... i feel guilty that i didnt really make it... that all i did is pain and glue... i mean anyone can do that...

  • 14000th view ....w000000000000t

  • A great series of videos and ideal for someone wanting to make a good job of their first model.

Excellent english and the accent is fabulous, regardless of what some 'educated' coment posters say, (I wonder if they speak a second language?)

  • @spidiq8 Well said.

  • @spidiq8 Thank you!

  • Very nice tutorial ! Thank you for promoting our hobby !!

  • awsome

  • @JustinBlue82 While I've seen gloss coats on model planes, I've never seen a shiny model that looked anything like its real full-size shiny counterpart. Real, shiny airplanes don't have orange peel bumps the size of grapes, sanding marks that look like they were made by a rake or traces of seams running on the leading edges of the wings and along the center of the fuselage. Give this shiny mess a shot of Dullcote and it begins to look more realistic. But that's not about fooling the eye, is it?

  • @JustinBlue82 If you tell me that it takes talent and effort to replicate a chunk of coal, I'll agree, but if you tell me that the coal first started out looking like a perfect diamond, I ain't buyin' it. ;)

  • @airste172 I knew you were retarded! Never have I seen anything on here with orange peel bumps the size of grapes, or sanding marks that look like they were made by a rake. your such an idiot lol. Anyways, you don't have to buy it, cause I ain't sellin' it. I will buy that your a complaining little bitch. That sounds about right ;)

  • very good video

  • im amateur builder but painting on the sprue helps so much and get some sprue cutters and a hobby knife make the bits look better

  • I wish someone would do a video on methods for painting a model of a new, clean, shiny aircraft and making it look realistic without the addition of dullness or dirt. New planes do look real and so do freshly repainted ones.

I'd rather build a model plane that looks like a beutiful shiny machine and not like an old trash dumpster.

  • Watch the videos and just omit performing any of the techniques related to "weathering effects" and you will have an airplane with a "brand new" look.

  • @IncaLandInteractive I understand your point, but there's considerably more to detailing a convincing new-looking plane than just spraying some shiny paint and leaving it at that. Examples of such workmanship are VERY rare and if one could accomlish that special "look" simply by omitting the weathering, then I don't think anyone would have the desire to blemish such a maseterpiece in the first place. Weathering seems like a cheap trick to give the illusion of realism.

  • I'd like to add that what I'm looking for is extremely unusual and chances are very good that you won't even understand what I'm talking about. Suffice it to say that what I have in mind is far more demanding of skill, effort and time than even an award-winning weathering job.

  • "Weathering" is not a cheap trick at all, there are many techniques to make a plain either look old, damaged, extremely used, etc. It requires skill and a good eye, comparing photographs of real airplanes and trying to make your model airplane look similar to the photographs. Making your plain looking factory new, also requires skill and techniques. Many of these techniques you will borrow from others and many other techniques you will discover or create yourself. That is the fun part.

  • @IncaLandInteractive not plain - plane!

  • @airste172 I get the Idea you think a whole lot of yourself! you seem to think you know more than everyone but I can't help but wonder what are you doing here then! If your looking for answers try being a little less condecending !

  • @brakemanbobsmith If I knew how to confidently accomplish what I'd like to see in a model, I might be more likely to plead guilty to your accusation. What I'm doing here is looking for techniques to allow me to craft a project to a standard that I have in mind (since you can't figure it out).

As you already consider me to be condescending, I have nothing to lose by suggesting to you that you brush up on your spelling and punctuation.

  • Weathering is much more complicated then producing a model that looks " Brand new ". If you were any kind of modeler at all, you would know this. And besides, who the hell wants that special " look " on a military aircraft? lol Their supposed to be weathered and beat up. It makes them look more bad ass!

  • @JustinBlue82 You're probably right, weathering would be more complicated than producing a MODEL that looks brand new. The difference is that I'm interested in a model that looks like a NEW REAL AIRPLANE or a CLEAN OLD AIRPLANE. or even just one that the finish doesn't resemble a trash dumpster. If the clean REALISTIC look was easy to do, I'd expect to see more than the ZERO NUMBER of examples I've seen so far.

  • @airste172, If your interested in models that look brand new, you prob shouldn't be looking at vids of military aircraft. Because for the most part they all will be weathered to some degree or another. But if you want to see a Brand new looking one, CapLAGOS has a F-18 painted in Blue angels colours that looks pretty good.

  • @JustinBlue82 I was looking at this video because its title is "The Art Of Building Plastic Model Airplanes" and I believe that to accomplish a convincing model of a new or a clean aircraft requires more art and skill than most people could imagine. Blue Angels and restored P-51 are prime examples of new-looking military aircraft. The difference between weathering and making a clean aircraft model is that weathering is about fooling the eye while clean is about genuine precision in miniature.

  • @airste172 check out my Tornado kit its shiney

  • MisplacedTexan4 Thank you for steering me over to your video. I saw the Tornado and it was like a breath of fresh air to see an "honest" model :)

  • Good video!!

    Mr.Pavel Andreievich Chekov.
