YOU ROCK! My question is that although I was a huge fan of Rush and Neil Pert in the 80's, wouldn't you have been less than 10? Did you follow or learn of him because of drums? I know other drummers who appreciated him. What's great is to know of musicians who appreciate all of them, while I seemed to have to defend my interest.

@girohead1 Euh, I'm much older than you think.... I started playing the drums several years before I ever heard of Rush and Neil but when I did, it changed a lot of things for me (as for many, many drummers). Neil's approach to the drumset is total: it's totally integrated within the music yet it's complex and powerful. His drumming makes you think and it's the kind of things I like... ;)

I've been a drummer and huge Rush fan for 30 years and this is one of the best fan performances I've ever seen. You play a lot of the bass drum and triplet nuances that most other drummers miss, and the feel and timing of your fills is fantastic.

@shivoron Interesting request. You might be surprised to learn that I have mixed feelings for that song, though. To me, Rush went too far in their reggae/The Police experiment with that song. I know the drums is great but it's never been a favorite... until the S&A tour! The new version rocks really hard and I surprise myself playing along with it from time to time during practice. So, we never know...........

While I'm not a huge reggae guy, the opening bars of that song always get me fired up, but you're right that they went pretty deep into the island beat and if you're not a fan that can be off-putting. @mrtransam666 The way he plays he has a good chance to meet Neil Peart. Just research the bands management and keep sending emails and letters. I'm a smallcraft pilot and got ahold of American Airlines owner and he responded to me in less than 36 hours via email. Nothings impossible my friends.

The only time I can remember this happening is back in the 60s when Keith Moon passed out drunk at a gig and a fan filled in for the rest of the show (footage is on youtube somewhere).

Try not hitting the high hat with the blunt part of the drum stick and more of the tip. you will get a crisper sound. When there is a crash repeated on every beat, try to use the other hand on another cymbal, it makes it easier for the flow of the song.

Otherwise one of the harder songs by RUSH.

How come the cymbals sound so tinny compared to the actual recording?

I'll try an answer... My recording setting if very simple. My camcorder mike cannot capture all the subtleties of the cymbals. But more important I think: Old versions of these videos were made before YT offered higher quality. They used to compress the audio to death so you lost a lot in the cymbals sound. They sound much different than on the original versions I have on my computer. Check the videos on my web site (address on my channel); they are the originals, not as compressed.
