Gloves dont protect the person being hit they are used to protect your hands. Since the marquess of queensbury rules were brought in more people have died in boxing from being punched and brain injuries than in bare knuckle boxing
Short clips, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between the fighters styles. This is not the "savate" that i have in mind; with it's constant circular movement.
who is the savate fighter? i noticed you have JCS in here listed as a savate fighter but he is a thaiboxer fighting out of jocky gym. he is retired now.
comming from i unbaised point of you since im a shotokan fighter.i think savate is better than muay thai.i have respect for both of them but i think savate is better.one reason is the roundhouse kicks are much much faster than swinging your leg like a baseball bat in muay thai.
so u say that muay thai is not for long rage combat?i dont see any advantages of savate considering the long range battle!if there are some DIFFERENT techniques please tell me
The problem is that in savate you fight with shoes.
All the kick are with the shoe and the point of the shoe (the liver kick with the point of the shoe is just excruciatingly painful). Lot of the leg check are also made with the shoe.
I would love to see a fight where the shoes are authorized. Because by the nature of those rules the savate guys are at disadvantage.
Nothing to do with being a pussy. The sport just uses shoes because it use to be a street sport. More over being kick with shoes hurts more. Especially the liver kicks.
the sport evolved in a competition sport. They add the gloves and kept the shoes, don't ask me why it's just like that. At the beginning they were even mixing savate with cane fighting, u don't see it any more. I think the gloves did not disturb the sport as there are no open hand strikes but most of the kick are using the point of the shoes. Without the shoes u would jam your toes.
yeah you are right it was a street sport and had origins relating to french sailors as well and the reason why the shoes are still in use is because savate translates into "old shoe" and it's like there way of keeping some of the old traditions and of course the gloves were added to make it safer but it's a hell of a style and my respect goes out to there training and fighting abilities
The gloves make everything different, I don't care what anyone says, you don't hurt your hands, and in real life you do, so you need to train without gloves, strengthen your hands to be weapons. Old Savate was made in the back streets of France, it was made out of the crapy and most dangerous areas of France, which is why it's good. In real life, you have shoes on, no gloves, and when Savate was made, canes were in style, so that was a legit weapon you would have in real life back then.
ok but muay thai was created because of war and i practiced muay thai and I'm now in MMA and fight perfectly without gloves and I the fact that i have shoes or not doesn't affect me in a fight
Actually shoes will make your kicks slower and feel weird to use foot work and such. It's not too much of a problem, but it will feel alittle different. The fight is not MuayThai VS Savate, they both work. But I just feel that shoes protecting your feet alow for more powerful kicks that don't need the shin. MuayThai does not have many styles of kicks, but Savate, Karate ect do, alot with the toe, so shoes can help.
@juljalala Ok, I think what you mean is Muay Boran. Actually Muay Thai is just the evolved competition sport of Muay Boran. Just like Karate and Kickboxing...one derives from the other for a certain purpose.
@MartialartsDog Do they use elbows in savate? Ive seen them use shins i think in the self defense part i think but ive heard in France in the savate fights your not allowed to use shins
@GuamKomudo Gloves protects the person being hit dumbass!! Why do you think you have knuckles?! I bet you would rather want to be hit with a glove than without a glove. Clearly you were never in a ring before.
It hurts more to be hit without gloves, but I don't think the brain damage is less. Please don't act all cool and tough over the internet... You don't know anything about me besides my profile name, so stop acting like it.
@GuamKomudo ROFL! Do i need to know you? Can you build a six pack on your face? I don't need to know you to know how your face works. Me acting tough? You are the one that is saying its better to train without gloves. Of what reason? Neither you or your sparring partner will be brave enough to hit the other one hard enough to strengthen your fists. You will take one or two hits and go back to gloves. Gloves are there for a reason. To improve your fighting skill.
@GuamKomudo If you break your hands on someones head then you must be hitting wrong. I am hitting walls each day at full force and never even cracked my hand. The thing you have to understand is the bigger surface your using to hit, in other words all 4 knuckles to smaller chance there is to brake your hand. You only use 1 or 2 knuckles when you are doing rib shots. Because you can dig in between the ribs to do more damage.
Boxing has changed ALOT since boxing gloves were invented. If you look at old style of ANY combat sport, they do not throw these super power hooks often. Same with MuayThai, before boxing gloves, they used more of their elbow and palm and weird looking hand strikes, not saying that you cannot punch in real life without breaking your hand, and yeah conditioning helps ALOT. But even pro fighters break their hand/wrist sometimes while wrapped in tap with gloves.
@Audiosurfsup Muay Thai, boxers and MMA fighters all wear gloves to keep their hands from getting broken. Pussies yeah?
The difference is you can actually learn to punch someone bare fisted without breaking your hand - you can't do that with toe kicks. Toe kicks must be protected there is no other way to do it - unlike punching.
So next time you manage to fashion a thought don't bother sharing it.
@JatobaBokken Lol you can learn not to break your hand? HAHAHA There is not a fighter in the history of combat sports who hasn't broken both hands. If you through your hardest punch and hit anything solid whatsoever, your hand will break regardless of technique.
It's not really a problem considering it makes sense as a streetfighting art. I can't think of many cases on the street where you'd be caught without your shoes. Unless you got into a fight in a lockerroom or something like that. In truth the kicks work just as well using instep or shin.
@shaihulud777 I dont think a martial art should depend on having steel-plated boots to be effective. Its like bringing brass knuckles to a fight, you don't do it unless you know you can't win without it.
@tadorjee thats crazy. u shuldnt be allowed to wear savate shoes in a fight. its like allowing muay thai fighters to use ropes on their hands. im sure u nobody wuld feel too happy about that.
@shaihulud777 In savate the kick with the point of the shoe which are called "pointé" are not the only kick. Most of the time you kick with the top the part of the foot that is betwenn the top of the foot and the shine bone.
who the hell is who
