  • We did this piece for the districts choir that I was in this year. We rocked, altos forever! :D

  • This is fantastic, gave me the chills.

  • Thank God for existence, music and Love.

  • that last section, the balance needs a little work. tenors need to come out a little more at around minute four, and females tend to be louder than the males. other than that, great job

  • We're just beginning to learn this piece, in my school choir. I think you guys have done a great job! I'll be happy if we sound anywhere near as good as you. :)

  • I find it lovely how they pronounce the word "streiten" though it is "wrong" (as you would say).

But the music carries above that, that´s my oppinion, the feeling comes through which is what counts.

  • Prison guards never sounded good to me, but this IS impressive.

  • Wow, incredibly good performance, my compliments!

  • As a choir-director I know that this piece is not easy to sing in german for an american choir. Nonetheless my compliments for pronunciation of the text. If you should do some more excersize in pronouncing "streiten" (consonant) I think this performance would be excellent! I enjoy this piece everytime I hear it. Compliments to all of you!

  • @sandy140672

American Choir???? this choir is from New Zealand (Auckland).....but thanks for your compliments and advice....

  • We are working on this piece now and I haven't seen any "doloroso" (right spelling) in the sheet music. Understanding German, one would know that there's nothing painful about text or music.

Dynamics might be somewhat stronger, but that's director's choice.

Piano: No need for an organ, just because it is religious! And wasn't this written for strings? The piece is not easy on the piano player and the one here did a great job, methinks!

No excuses needed: Compliments to all!

So, as far as I am concerned: Compliments to all!

  • This is a great performance. I love it and it touches me.

  • I don't think that ement's comment is too harsh really, a performance in a foreign language is harder than one in native tongue but proper pronunciation of consonant sounds is vital to a german piece. Direction was very good but i think as a performance the expression needed work as in parts some members were grinning like cheshire cats whilst others were sombre and "dollorosso" as the notation suggests. The singing wasn't of bad quality and the tuning had no major issues.

  • ernent, maybe you are being a little bit harsh on a school choir that consists of teenagers from the ages 13-18. I think it is pretty good for an extra curricular group.

  • tee hee hee 1:40

  • Is it really possible that you approach such a great piece of music without the very basic knowledge of how to correctly pronoune a syllable in German that begins with "st" ("streiten" in this case) ?

This is most unprofessional and significantly diminishes the impact of a good performance.

  • @ernent sorry. most of us were asian so cant speak good english... german so hard.

  • i love this song. i song it at spivey hall.

  • tenors sounded great, lovely performance.

  • i sang this in carnegie hall....one of my favorite songs

  • We Did this Piece in both New England Music Festival, and Vermont's Allstate, Allstate was far superior, but this piece is done beautifully here.

  • I sang this song at the Vermont Allstate in 2009

  • IM from Sydney University Choral Society and we did this piece...thanks for the upload it was a great practice for a bass such as myself...

you guys are realy good..... they shold have honour'd you guys by having a Organ company it not a piano...pitty

  • *love*

  • I think this song is so beautiful. Its annoying to sing it and be a soprano because you have to wait sooo long! I have to sing it for a festival in Washington D.C. You guys are so amazing!!!!

  • Well sung but horrible pronunciation!

  • Yes, awesome sound! I think the pronunciation is okay, except for the word "streiten" which should be pronounced ['ʃtʀaɪ̯tn̩].

  • This is a wonderful performance - it is hard to believe that German is not your first language the accent is perfect. But the singing is even better - lovely texture, beautiful phrasing. Keep up the good work.

  • You guys are sooo good! It's an outrage they didn't have an organ accompanying you. An outrage.

  • Ooh! I was in Georgia All-State, too! Go 9/10 Mixed...we so rocked. :D

  • i love this song and you all preformed it amazingly!!!!! GOOD JOB

  • Yea YAY!!!! CHORALATION WAT!!!!!! :D ima miss all you 7th formers nxt year :( dats straight up Westlake Represent right there!!!!!

  • very nice piece. I had to perform this in the Georgia All-State choir earlier this year. Great job singing within the texture!

  • I was there at GA all state!

i was in intermediate treble choir!

    didnt mixed do this?

  • Yes. The 9/10th performed this song. I absolutely loved working with Dr.McCoy on this piece. He's a genius!

  • you guys were so good at it!

  • Thank you! I enjoyed the Treble Choir very much as well. If I'm not mistaken...you had the conductor from Georgia Southern that had you perform the Cultural pieces right?

  • Cultural pieces?

    i really liked our conductor!

we were supposed to have a different one, but she was sick.

lol he taught us some things that i still do today- for example, feeling to song with out bodies... i still do it, and my voice teacher gets annoyed because i end up doing it when i perform :P

  • hahaha. Thats the great thing about all-state. We all can take what we've learned from the experience and apply it to our lives.

  • so true!
