  • where'd you get the fabulous spooky space noises? (I didn't figure out what they were till the sound of the spinning pulsar near the end)

  • @sunsdomain They're from the Cassini mission, publicly available. Go to goo dot gl forwardslash xzAJD or look up "Nasa Cassini Mission sounds" in google. Nasa has recorded lots of interesting space sounds and has them available on various websites. If you have difficulty finding the sounds just PM me and I'll send you links.

  • Jupiter's mass draws in objects that could possibly impact the earth. Thank's big guy : )

  • We should all thank the big guy. No earth without Jupiter sitting there protecting us.

  • Rumours abound that Fred has lost his pet Dino and that he hears barking from outer space - how could you have done such a thing?

  • Sssshh. Don't tell Fred. But I've always felt Dinosaurs should be free to soar (Dino-soar?), even if it's to Jupiter.

  • Very funny. :-| :-P p.s. those sounds are frieking spooky

  • There are other "dwarf" planets. One that was initially a labeled planet when discovered and then later demoted is Ceres. Fits the bill for a planet except for being among asteroids due to Jupiters gravitational influence. I remember a time when I could named all the known planets and their moons. Hah! I don't even try anymore. The universe holds wonders unlimited, waiting for us to have the eyes to see them.

  • Astronomers to meet August 3 in Rio de Janeiro and Pluto's status likely to be unchanged. But American scientist aren't giving up since Pluto is the only planet discovered by an American.

  • yep pluto is always a planet to me too

  • If their was no Jupiter where would all the comet's and roid's go, anywhere they want is the answer.

  • How right you are. Jupiter is just beyond Mars. Whatever Jupiter doesn't suck up heads towards us with only little Mars inbetween. We should be very grateful to Jupiter for taking many bullets for us.

  • Cute video. I wasn't too sure where you were going with it, which was good for the comedic aspect of your video.

  • Great job!

  • Thanks. At work on a Pluto video now. Oh, and I'm a nerd/uber geek, too. And proud of it.

  • yvettegr: You can probably snag some fair use seconds of the Disney Pluto (for whom the planet was named) in your video. I strongly encourage that.

  • I think you should also do a Planet Pluto Memorial Video!

  • That is a superb idea. I'll do it. My next video: "Pluto, We Hardly Knew Ye" (apologies to Kenny O'Donnell about the title). Maybe it'll be the start of a campaign to put Pluto back in it's rightful place as #9 (occasionally #8).

  • Awesome!!! :)

PS: ... do u think a 'bring Pluto back' contest would get off the ground?

  • Awesome!

  • nooooooooooooooo pluto got demoted///// next youl be telling me there are martians in your anus

  • Well, maybe not mine, but in someone's.

  • hehee funny stuff!

  • pluto is not a planet haha lol. jking i hated that they demoted it too.

  • Heh-heh, VERY clever! I had read that the wound was the size of the Pacific Ocean, but your video says that the impact was the size of Earth. I wish Jupiter could vacuum up some of the larger asteroids which may be headed our way! 5 stars and shared.

  • The object that hit was the size of the moon (height/width/depth of Pacific Ocean = size of moon. The impact result was the size of Earth. K-T meteor that caused the dinosaur extinction was only 10km.

  • The Barringer Meteor Crater in Arizona (180m deep x 1.2km diameter) was caused by an iron meteor 30-100m in diameter weighed only 60 tons, just a little more than 11 Dodge Ram pickup trucks. Look up Barringer Meteor Crater Arizona on Google Maps to see that crater. Something equiv to 11+ pickup trucks caused that. Zoom back and look at the desolate area around it. Impact was 25-50 thousand years ago and the area still hasn't recovered.

  • yvettegr: This will definitely happen again, but it's unpredictable. If it lands in the Pacific Ocean, I can see several archipelagos (Tonga, some of the Marshall Islands, the Cooks, etc,) being completely wiped clean. And of course the ensuing global winter worldwide. And I thought being jobless in a depression was bad!

  • I think the Pacific Ocean sized thing was the black cloud that resulted on Jupiter. ... the largest comet fragment of the comet itself was only about 2 km across, and there were about 23 fragments. But this is a great video! Thanks yvettegr :)

  • yvettegr: It seems only yesterday that we got over the Y2K nonsense, and now there are several best selling books out, that prohesy the end times by a comet or meteor or some space debris in 2012, based on some ancient Mayan calendar 'secrets'.

No matter, makes a good beach read, and the authors will be nowhere to be found to explain when it doesn't happen.

They will have laughed all the way to the bank.

  • ^^ I learnt alot from this video

  • And hopefully had a chuckle, too.

  • Very cute Yvette. I like the apropos bandaids.
