People have to remember there was no happy ending for the empire. After Empire Spock took control his misguided views of peace lead to the Klingons and Bajoran-Cardassian alliance taking their territory and enslaving humanity. The moral of the story is this, humanity must unit to combat the alien menas, alway make it bo on the defensive, never give it a chance to gain the uperhand.
@kvn8907 But I did mention something everyone seems to have forgoten, that the empire fell, that it is no more, that humanity is the slave and aliens are now master.
The Moral of the story is..the strongest will survive..yes the federation is strong... but com on... they need what? 15 ships to take out 1 Borg ship? i bet that the Terran war ships would be an even match tot the borg due to the fact they invested in warfair instead of exploration... before you set in to the wild and unknown beyond...make shure that you can kill everything in it...
It's ironic that in the Federation universe they survive through unity and peace while in the Empire universe they survive through war and conquest: then when the Empire adopts the other ideology they ended up enslaved.
@1337soldiahs Well, if First Contact is any indication, steel blades and holographic bullets are more effective against the Borg than Phaser rifles that could disintigrate a boulder.
@kvn8907 Yeah, apparently Borg shields are designed for energy, not physical objects. Yet the Federation shuns ballistic weapons for some reason. The ones in the Mirror probably have crates of kalashnikovs stockpiled just in case.
@1337soldiahs bt the time of "the Next Generation" the terran Empire has been Masssacered by the Klingon-Cardassian Allaince...why you ask?
well the captain kirk form the "good universe" went to the "evil unievrse"gave a faggy speech to the spock from the "evil universe" witch made that spock turn the empire in to tree huggers... making them vulnerable and well... Hippies VS dudes who sharpen their teeth for combat... you do the math.... EVIL FTW!
The music from this episode literally gives me goose bumps. It's kinda fun to see mirror universe episodes where humans are strong but the bad guys. I'd love an alternate universe series.
Keep in mind that the terran empire was defeated. Also in TOS if theorems Spock killed Kirk, his universe would stop existing. If you watch tos "tholian web" and this mirror darkly you'll know what I mean.
@disturbedfan1100 Since the Terran Empire is all about the assertion of dominance of power by anyone with the cunning and the firepower, what a perfect way to define your legacy as the ruler of "your" empire, than by destroying one of what must be dozens of Command Centres scattered throughout the planet. You can always rebuild when you are in power and always to your exacting specifications.
@disturbedfan1100 Because that was the evil mirror-universe Enterprise of the Terran Empire, an empire built by nothing but war and a place where you gain power by killing the person above you.
@misterbruno Yeah, if you pay for it. I understand how they'd want to keep Trek under their control; I'd probably do the same. I'm just saying that it's annoying.
@acon2988 Silly acon2988! While the Klingon empire still ocassionally uses armor and melee weapons, the Federation foreswears all such trivialities. Thus, no warhammers in the Terran Empire!

@justinok67 If previous empires are anything to go by, the Terran Empire probably has a small, select group of loyalists and pretty much everyone else hates them. They probably have rebellions coming out the wazoo.
@justinok67 Better then what usually happens to humans in Trek. Aliens abduct humans, experiment on them, torture them, use them for slave labor, food or incubators for their young. Oh and kill them. But in the Mirror universe, humans are feared, and kick almost every alien's ass they meet! Its a nice change of pace versus the peace loving Federation, that ends up fighting alien menaces anyway despite their peaceful ways.

Boy that's the truth, they love Adolf Hitler on the history channel, LoL Oh well it was an important chapter in human history...."those who forget their past are doomed to repeat it." Lets hope we don't have a World War III.
@BloodyPup Germany could no sooner drop the anti-Soviet BS than a tiger could change its stripes. Nazis blamed the burning of the parliment building on Communists; both systems of government had radically different ideas about private property; and perhaps most importantly, the existance of the Soviet Union really personally bothered Hitler. In the months leading up to Opperation Barbarossa, Hitler became increasingly agitated and moody, and felt a great relief when the invasion finally happened
@kvn8907 Well thanks for this history lesson Dr.Know-it-all, I didn't know an eye witness to Hitlers mind, and the whole war was right here on you-tube, you have quite a gift.
@BloodyPup I watch a lot of History and Military Channel.
In fact, it's hard to watch much of the History Channels (pre Ice Road Truckers, that is) and not come to know Adolf Hitler better than your own sister.
1. USS Defiant disappears from the prime universe to the alternate universe about 100 years into the past. 2. Captain Archer of the ISS Enterprise in the alternate universe finds the USS Defiant. 3. ISS Enterprise is destroyed, forcing crew to man USS Defiant. 4. Hoshi Sato becomes empress of the Terran Empire, uses USS Defiant to dominate Earth and the Empire. 5. USS Defiant becomes prototype for new fleet of ISS starships. 6. 100 years later new ISS Enterprise encounters prime Kirk.
@thisisrumorcontrol 7. Prime Kirk influences Alternate Spock to turn Terran Empire from evil to peaceful. 8. Years pass and Terran Empire falls to Klingon/Bajoran Alliance. 9. Allliance encounters Prime Sisko, Bashir, and Kira. 10. Prime Sisko and crew defeat Alternate Alliance.
@phongbong I'm not sure where the point of departure is in the alternate history, but I don't think it's WWII. Probably earlier, but I'm just guessing.
...
Wait...let me check Memory Alpha and see what hardcore geeks have to say about it.
No set date there either, but the Terran Empire has roots somewhere between 1 and 1955 AD.
@kvn8907 I have a different hypothesis: In regular Trek, man is very peaceful, nature loving (not to the point of being hippies), and optimistic, in general. In the Mirror universe, man, either, A) is more aggressive or B) does not evolve the way it does after WW3 in "our" universe.
@phongbong I read somewhere that it was supposed to be a continuation of the Roman Empire. The salute is Roman and apparently in a draft script the crew were supposed to thank the gods for their victory or something to that effect.
But I don't remember where I read it so it might not be true and it doesn't explain the Nazi's in the intro. Unless Nazi's were the good guys in this time line, which would be funny because the Germans fought against the Romans in ours.
I wonder how the Xindi threat would play out in the mirror universe. "Jonathan an alien vessel attacked Earth, we are sending the fleet to wipe those motherfucker's out".
@thatguywiththeegg Or better yet: "Jonathan, an alien vessel attacked Earth. Our weapons would have trouble damaging it, so we're ordering you to fill this derelect ship with as much antimatter as we can muster and crash it into the ship."
"Johnathan:And I'll be able to teleport out at the last moment?"
@kvn8907 LOL, I am also trying to figure out how mirror Picard would have lived, under the influence of the Alliance. I am guessing that after the Terrans were freed, they rebuilt the empire, let me check memory alpha. No signs that they did not rebuild, so lets say they did, A sovereign under the terran flag would PWN!
@animalcross77 Technically, with pretty much any change in history, it becomes impossible for two parents to have sex at the exact same time they would have before history was changed (sperm's being constantly replaced, remember) and for the exact same genetic combination to occur, making the exact same baby.
But eh, you got all these actors lying around, why not just stick a few goatees on them and call it a day?
@thatguywiththeegg judging from the intro video, im guessing the xindi never got the chance to launch a pre-emptive strike on earth, much less use their super weapon. : /
@thatguywiththeegg its possible that since things are practically opposite in the Alternate Universe, the Xindi could be peaceful and never attack Earth at all. I'm guessing its the alternate Enterprise that attacks the Xindi homeworld and causes the events of the Season 3 story arc to happen as the unfolded.
@thatguywiththeegg "these aliens call themselves "xindi", apparently they have sent some kind of ball thing to destroy earth. should we use minimum, or maximum ass kicking force?"
@kvn8907 It's not that I didn't like em, it's just that I read the novel before, and the series did not do the novel any justice, the novel was way better.
I don't like what DS9 did to the mirror universe but I love these two episodes. So want a prequel that shows how they are so more technologically advanced than the prime universe
@vulcan280 Me too. But the reason why they are ahead of the prime universe technologically is because they take all the goodies from the races they conquer instead of developing it on their own. It shortens the time it takes fro them to employ new tech into their starships.
@hamanu666 Exactly, I always wanted to see a sci fi show where the protagonists are corrupt and evil. Battlestar galatica is kind of like that to me because they are driven to do immoral things but not a series where the immoral thing is the moral thing to do
Well maybe when America unifies the world, then we can build a strong Galactic Empire for humanity. Right now humans are too busy fighting among each other, we'd be no match against other Alien civilizations.
@Asiats1 An American unified world would be closer to the Ferengi than the Terran Empire.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. The Ferengi have a lot of aspects about their culture that are desireable (near absence or racism, strong work ethic, high income mobility) that would appeal to especially Republicans, but Democrats too. :-)
@kvn8907 well they dont really look different to be racist about lol, and they do have sexism as a form of discrimination, and we wouldnt look that ugly lol
dude, this is so much badass compared to any star trek that ever existed, plot is not even bad, kinda shocking ending with the empress asian, i did not see that one coming...
I think they were very good episodes. The new intro was a cool idea and to make that connection to the USS Defiant was brilliant.
Remember the Defiant ? It was the sister ship of the Kirk's Enterprise they encountered drifting in space in one of the first episodes of the original series.
It was slowly loosing its space time integrity and constantly phased into another dimension and back. What a cool idea to pick that story up again and explain where the Defiant ended up after it disappeared.
@Celeon999A Hmm i just looked up Eurocorps to see what you meant and its a map of Europe with a sword on top of it. I was shocked how similar it was to the Terran empire symbol. Guess I'd better practice my imperial salute \o\o\o\o\o\o
Sadly the only awesome thing about this episodes is the intro, the story is stupid: a bunch of idiots trying to get the power, betraying everyone they could. Wow! great ideals and organization for a militia! An empire like that wouldnt last a month!
@Godsfirstangel Dude, ever heard of the Roman Empire? Do some research. The Romans, during many periods, did exactly as you described. The Empire lasted, in one form or another, for 1500 years. Much more than a month, hmm?
@Gluupor Personally, the fact that the astronaut is wearing the ENT enviromental suit and is really cheesy-looking CGI took me *out* of the "shit is real" phase.
It's strinking by watching the 2 openings (original and this one ) what's the whole message of star trek is . Mankind have choice , 2 future possible , which way will we go . The thing is for the moment future looks more like the mirror universe than TNG . What will be the future of Earth , what will we choose?
@dam973 Don't forget, even in the normal timeline, mankind had wars a-plenty. Cochrane's warp journey was shortly after a massive Third World War, after all. Right now, I'd say we're fifty-fifty, leaning slightly more toward normal universe.
@dam973 truth is in the middle i think. We won't get so utopic as in ST but i doubt in actual popular hollywood dystopies. Yeah, Babylon 6 or DS9 were more believable.
My second favorite intro. Even after seeing it a 100 times it still gets me. What a tragedy, if everything goes wrong and this is what we become? We have the potential to become both the normal star trek, or this alternate universe trek. The choice is ours.
What does religion and capitalism have to do with finding an opening theme both enjoyable and creepy? Both are a mixed bag, especially religion, but capitalism as a system has at least brought us more good than bad. Thinking what way about myself? I didnt say anything about myself? Evolution gave us the basics, but love, compassion, and will are more than biochemistry. We will need more than science and tech to thrive amoung the stars.
@Warblade118 Look, religious people afraid of anything new, space travel is one of then. Because of religion we have wars and terrorism. And for capitalism... How can we go to the stars if 15% of earth's population at the brink of starvation?
And how this video deals with religion and economics? Easily.
This video about star trek. Star Trek society is both utopian and non-religious. See connection?
Sorry if I offended you, not very good in english, probably picked up wrong words.
Wow, as far as "religious people" you are generalizing big time. Wars and terrorism, speaking topically, that is almost exclusively done by one part of kind of religion. You dont see the Jews and Christians cutting each others heads off in appreciable numbers. 15% starvation? And you are blaming capitalism for that? America gives more to starving nations than any other nation in the world. Star Trek carefully avoids religion most of the time because the writers make it so.
writers of star trek don't avoid the issue because they're uncomfortable with it or so ... they do it because gene roddenberry was an atheist and said it himself on many occasions that in the future of star trek, mankind has abolished religion and moved on ...
@Medhiv83 I didnt know gene was an atheist. DS9 has some religious themes (sort of) So I dont mean they totally avoid it. If mankind does abolish religion thats kinda a sad commentary by itself.
@Medhiv83 Just my opinion. Im not really part of a particular religion but I understand the good and bad that comes from it. I dont think you have to belong to a religion to have a respect for God, that is, if you believe in God.
well without dwelling into any religious-argument, lets just say believe in god gets at least from me as much credit and respect as the believe in elvis being still alive :-)
as for the believe factor, well easy answer: there's no need for a god in my world! been feeling fine all the time and even when it got real dark i thought and faught myself out of the situations, instead of whining, complaining or praying for better times! simply put, god for me, is redundand!
as for the respect part, well: i don't expect respect from anyone for my believe in aliens existing , so neither do i deliver any to other people's believes :-)
@Warblade118 "Evolution gave us the basics, but love, compassion, and will are more than biochemistry. We will need more than science and tech to thrive amoung the stars"
actually and by our best understanding they're not ... everything your mind comes up with has a biochemical/electrical basis in your brain! the fact that we don't completely understand some things doesn't mean that they hav some spawning point ouside the realm of our brains!
I'm not sure, but I think in some Deep Space 9 episode, they say that since the Terran Empire makes enemies out of everyone, they're destroyed by a Klingon-Cardassian alliance.
You can look it up on Memory Alpha if you're really curious.
@kvn8907 If I recall it went; Archer's group help create the Empire- Kirk's held onto the power of the Empire- DS9 the Empire fell and humans were enslaved - I dont recall of the Mirror Universe in TNG or Voyager. But if you read the novels theres a whole other story to the Mirror Universe. I dont know if the fans see the books as cannon or not, but the books have some awesome Mirror Mirror stories.
@kvn8907 no, Spock reformed the empire and the klinong-cardassian alliance took advantage of this. they took over with force and the terran empire, since its warships were mostly dismantled, they didnt have a chance.
There are multiple timeslines of the mirror universe and so there are many versions of the TE's downfall. In one of Bill Shatner's novels, the TE made its last stand against the klingon-cardassian alliance at Wolf 359 (years earlier than the one against the Borg in the prime universe)
@tgh112 the terran empire was reformed when spock took on the role of emperor. when the dfenses of the terran empire were down an alliance of klingons, cardassians and bajorans took advantage of this to claim revenge towards those whom had enslaved them, and inturn enslaved the terrans.

So the "Mirror Universe" is what would have happened if the Nazi's wond WWII?
phongbong 1 year ago
@phongbong I'm not sure where the point of departure is in the alternate history, but I don't think it's WWII. Probably earlier, but I'm just guessing.
...
Wait...let me check Memory Alpha and see what hardcore geeks have to say about it.
No set date there either, but the Terran Empire has roots somewhere between 1 and 1955 AD.
kvn8907 1 year ago
@kvn8907 at some point in the second part Archer mentions the gods so there could be a connection to Rome.
Perhaps in the alternate universe Rome never fell or Roman ideals carried on in later civilizations. Fun to speculate.

Terran123rd 1 year ago
@phongbong I read somewhere that it was supposed to be a continuation of the Roman Empire. The salute is Roman and apparently in a draft script the crew were supposed to thank the gods for their victory or something to that effect.
But I don't remember where I read it so it might not be true and it doesn't explain the Nazi's in the intro. Unless Nazi's were the good guys in this time line, which would be funny because the Germans fought against the Romans in ours.

I wonder how the Xindi threat would play out in the mirror universe. "Jonathan an alien vessel attacked Earth, we are sending the fleet to wipe those motherfucker's out".
thatguywiththeegg 1 year ago 28
@thatguywiththeegg Or better yet: "Jonathan, an alien vessel attacked Earth. Our weapons would have trouble damaging it, so we're ordering you to fill this derelect ship with as much antimatter as we can muster and crash it into the ship."
"Johnathan:And I'll be able to teleport out at the last moment?"
"Teleport? No, that would be too dangerous."
kvn8907 1 year ago
@kvn8907 LOL, I am also trying to figure out how mirror Picard would have lived, under the influence of the Alliance. I am guessing that after the Terrans were freed, they rebuilt the empire, let me check memory alpha. No signs that they did not rebuild, so lets say they did, A sovereign under the terran flag would PWN!
animalcross77 1 year ago
@animalcross77 Technically, with pretty much any change in history, it becomes impossible for two parents to have sex at the exact same time they would have before history was changed (sperm's being constantly replaced, remember) and for the exact same genetic combination to occur, making the exact same baby.
But eh, you got all these actors lying around, why not just stick a few goatees on them and call it a day?
kvn8907 1 year ago
@kvn8907 Remember: Almost everything is identical in the mirror universe, all the objects, the events are the difference.
animalcross77 1 year ago
@animalcross77 That's true. If there's a ferret in one universe, there's probably an evil ferret in the other universe.
Still doesn't make sense, of course, but then, what ever really makes sense in Star Trek? And Star Trek: Enterprise to boot.
kvn8907 1 year ago 2
@thatguywiththeegg judging from the intro video, im guessing the xindi never got the chance to launch a pre-emptive strike on earth, much less use their super weapon. : /
mlarosa25 1 year ago
@thatguywiththeegg its possible that since things are practically opposite in the Alternate Universe, the Xindi could be peaceful and never attack Earth at all. I'm guessing its the alternate Enterprise that attacks the Xindi homeworld and causes the events of the Season 3 story arc to happen as the unfolded.

I don't like what DS9 did to the mirror universe but I love these two episodes. So want a prequel that shows how they are so more technologically advanced than the prime universe
vulcan280 1 year ago
@vulcan280 Me too. But the reason why they are ahead of the prime universe technologically is because they take all the goodies from the races they conquer instead of developing it on their own. It shortens the time it takes fro them to employ new tech into their starships.

It's strinking by watching the 2 openings (original and this one ) what's the whole message of star trek is . Mankind have choice , 2 future possible , which way will we go . The thing is for the moment future looks more like the mirror universe than TNG . What will be the future of Earth , what will we choose?
dam973 1 year ago
@dam973 Don't forget, even in the normal timeline, mankind had wars a-plenty. Cochrane's warp journey was shortly after a massive Third World War, after all. Right now, I'd say we're fifty-fifty, leaning slightly more toward normal universe.

legomaniac1995 1 year ago
My second favorite intro. Even after seeing it a 100 times it still gets me. What a tragedy, if everything goes wrong and this is what we become? We have the potential to become both the normal star trek, or this alternate universe trek. The choice is ours.
Warblade118 1 year ago 3
We would not. Humans is not that bad, you know?
Stop think that way about yourself.
Evolution gave us logic, intelligence, love and compassion.
Don't pull that down the drain.
We need to overcome 2 major threats: religion and capitalism.
These is our last obstacles on way to the stars.
We have science, we have technology, all we need is will.
fellowmartian 1 year ago
What does religion and capitalism have to do with finding an opening theme both enjoyable and creepy? Both are a mixed bag, especially religion, but capitalism as a system has at least brought us more good than bad. Thinking what way about myself? I didnt say anything about myself? Evolution gave us the basics, but love, compassion, and will are more than biochemistry. We will need more than science and tech to thrive amoung the stars.
Warblade118 1 year ago
@Warblade118 Look, religious people afraid of anything new, space travel is one of then. Because of religion we have wars and terrorism. And for capitalism... How can we go to the stars if 15% of earth's population at the brink of starvation?
And how this video deals with religion and economics? Easily.
This video about star trek. Star Trek society is both utopian and non-religious. See connection?
Sorry if I offended you, not very good in english, probably picked up wrong words.
fellowmartian 1 year ago
Wow, as far as "religious people" you are generalizing big time. Wars and terrorism, speaking topically, that is almost exclusively done by one part of kind of religion. You dont see the Jews and Christians cutting each others heads off in appreciable numbers. 15% starvation? And you are blaming capitalism for that? America gives more to starving nations than any other nation in the world. Star Trek carefully avoids religion most of the time because the writers make it so.
Warblade118 1 year ago
@Warblade118
writers of star trek don't avoid the issue because they're uncomfortable with it or so ... they do it because gene roddenberry was an atheist and said it himself on many occasions that in the future of star trek, mankind has abolished religion and moved on ...
Medhiv83 1 year ago
@Medhiv83 I didnt know gene was an atheist. DS9 has some religious themes (sort of) So I dont mean they totally avoid it. If mankind does abolish religion thats kinda a sad commentary by itself.
Warblade118 1 year ago
@Warblade118 " If mankind does abolish religion thats kinda a sad commentary by itself."
how's so?
Medhiv83 1 year ago
@Medhiv83 Just my opinion. Im not really part of a particular religion but I understand the good and bad that comes from it. I dont think you have to belong to a religion to have a respect for God, that is, if you believe in God.
Warblade118 1 year ago
@Warblade118
well without dwelling into any religious-argument, lets just say believe in god gets at least from me as much credit and respect as the believe in elvis being still alive :-)
Medhiv83 1 year ago
@Medhiv83 I kind of figured you might have been an atheist. If I may, just out of curiosity, why dont you respect (or I take it, believe) in God?
Warblade118 1 year ago
@Warblade118
as for the believe factor, well easy answer: there's no need for a god in my world! been feeling fine all the time and even when it got real dark i thought and faught myself out of the situations, instead of whining, complaining or praying for better times! simply put, god for me, is redundand!
as for the respect part, well: i don't expect respect from anyone for my believe in aliens existing , so neither do i deliver any to other people's believes :-)

You can look it up on Memory Alpha if you're really curious.
kvn8907 1 year ago
@kvn8907 If I recall it went; Archer's group help create the Empire- Kirk's held onto the power of the Empire- DS9 the Empire fell and humans were enslaved - I dont recall of the Mirror Universe in TNG or Voyager. But if you read the novels theres a whole other story to the Mirror Universe. I dont know if the fans see the books as cannon or not, but the books have some awesome Mirror Mirror stories.
Cavillier1970 1 year ago
@kvn8907 no, Spock reformed the empire and the klinong-cardassian alliance took advantage of this. they took over with force and the terran empire, since its warships were mostly dismantled, they didnt have a chance.
Boxanadu 1 year ago
@kvn8907
There are multiple timeslines of the mirror universe and so there are many versions of the TE's downfall. In one of Bill Shatner's novels, the TE made its last stand against the klingon-cardassian alliance at Wolf 359 (years earlier than the one against the Borg in the prime universe)
FekLeyrTarg 1 year ago
@tgh112 the terran empire was reformed when spock took on the role of emperor. when the dfenses of the terran empire were down an alliance of klingons, cardassians and bajorans took advantage of this to claim revenge towards those whom had enslaved them, and inturn enslaved the terrans.
