It was really weird. I had this problem for bf2 and had no option but to play on non punkbuster servers. Then I uninstalled the game for about a year. I reinstalled the game and the problem was gone.

Ok Heres what You Gotta Do...

Right Click the BF2 icon then click "Run as Administrator".

If this odes not work go into properties>compatability then check the box that says "Run this program in compatability mode for:"

Then in the drop down box change it to Windows XP (Service Pack 2)

Then Run it as Admin again.

Update manually first. If it doesnt work go into task manager and make sure "pnkbstr a and pnkbstr b "are in running Now DONT AND I REPEAT DONT END PROCESS TREE WITH PNKBSTR A OR B. Punkbuster is a fag, yep. I get PB errors all the time, like every time I play, I get kicked at least once. I've done every tutorial online about manually updating pb, reinstalling pb, reinstalling bf2, pb, and none of them help. In my opinion, PB should actually kick cheaters, not the average player who just wants to play. It's ridiculous. I crash to desktop quite often as well. BF2 is horribly glitchy. I don't know what went wrong, because I never had problems like this with bf:1942/bf:vietnam

i have a very crappy solution to the handshake problem. delete the BF2 PB file then reinstall via PB setup. this will make the problem disappear for a single download unless u stay on the same server. this is a huge problem for me in P reality.

Your anti-virus firewalls are up I believe. I have Webroot and it has a gamer mode which allows for packet transfers during online games. SImply disable your firewalls in your AV software or see if there is a gamer mode. It's easy, but if you don't do this NO PATCH will ever help. Hope this helped all of you, especially the useless punkbuster criticisms. It do what it do, yes it's weak and flawed, but it has a purpose. See ya, happy gaming.
