  • How magnificent is that!! Raises one's soul to the heights1

  • If Diane Bish is the organist, it is pleasurable to be able to listen.

    the kid from Allentown.

  • Well done. A Voluntary should be joyful and move along, and not be slow as some seem to suggest.. Then again, tastes differ. De gustibus non es disputandum.

  • i love this video, that trumpet on the organ make me feel like royalty

  • maan, some of yall dont know wat yall talken about, dian bish is a legend and she deserve some respect,i always llove how she playd anything realy

  • magnificent organ played by a decent organist these days is rare were a dying breed of musicians ,excellent performance

  • magnificent organ play by a decent organist tgese days is rare were a dying breed of musicians ,excellent performance

  • Sorry, but for me the whole thing is just so loud that the main tune is mostly drowned out by what she played 3 bars earlier. She just about holds herself in check on this one, but Mrs.Bish, for 95% of the time, plays EVERYTHING way too fast. What's the problem? Is she trying to prove something?

  • Diane Bish is a wonderfull organ player!!! she plays the organ with - we would say in germany: "leichtigkeit"... some kind of .... (can't find it in my dicionary.....) light playing... without any stress... that's what I wanted to say... :-)

Although I don't like when she pronounces "Bach" like "Buck" or something like that.... well......... doesn't matter......

  • "Why?" I wonder to myself "does diane always insist on wearing rings during her performances?" They always wind up flipping over or slanting sideways. This can't possibly be comfortable for her and is a real distraction when you are trying to watch her keyboard skills.

  • The organ world would truly be dull if there wasn't a Diane Bish.

  • pretty fearsome instrument this - well played!

  • i would mount trumpets like those on my car and play voluntaries all over the village!

  • The only times I feel close to God is when listening to music such as this!

  • those chamade reeds are pretty impressive...

  • amazing work , i am a great fan conceirning matters such as the horns i see before me , she has a great top too , always a must when having ones back to the pubic when performing

  • She's Queen of the Keyboard, long may she reign.

  • Very nice - I like the sound of these chamade reeds...

  • I asked our local TBN affiliate station why the audio quality was so bad, So the answer I got was a bit astounding. TBN took some strange content controls. They were back hauling the air feeds to California then back to the station transmitter sites. So even if a station was 500 feet from the tower the signal still made that extra 88,000 mile trip. This wes even for local originating programs. Where I work we take HD ASI right from our network feed and send it right out.

  • In my humble opinion this is THE Trumpet Tune of all Trumpet Tunes. It is a wonderful piece both to play and listen too. While I don't agree with everything Ms Bish does in every particular, I have to applaud her for her incredible accomplishments. She has done SO MUCH to bring the joy of the organ and it's music to SO MANY people globally. She also has technique to burn. Anyone who loves the organ should heartily thank her for her enthusiasm and passion. What exciting playing!

  • Totally awesome! Loss for words!

  • she's doing f***** great ! ! ! ! ! !

    greetings from germany

(bach would probably have liked her playing too...)

  • Imagine tuning that organ!

  • i've been able to travel the globe & listen to many great organs...i've since learned how barbaric (i once loved) this ruffatti organ is!...lots of hype, not much substance!...probably represents the congregation @ CR...i'm a BISHFAN, but this organ should be reserved for, perhaps, "entertaining stuff..."

  • It's sad so many seem not to like this rendition of the piece, and that they use that opportunity to take personal digs at the performance and performer. YMMV, I guess.

For me, I simply enjoy it each time I listen, which is multiple times a week.

  • 'Prince of Denmark's March', written about 1699 by Jeremiah Clarke. Commonly but erroneously called 'Trumpet Voluntary'........read more on Wiki

Ms Bish certainly brings the joy into music.

  • Are you trying to say that this is not John Stanley but Jeremiah Clarke? If so you are very wrong!!

  • @penventinue

no. this is definitley john stanley. just have a look at 0:07!

  • just being there and hearing this organ must be astouding the video does not do justice i think when diane plays both trumpets it sounds lika a cathedral organ

  • A bit too much of everything: sequins, personality, and god-awful solo reeds. A big smattering of sound that gets unlistenable at a certain point. A very unmusical rendition, but typical Diane. Surround-sound horizontal trumpets are probably one of the least-likely ways to re-create what John Stanley was after in this piece.

  • My friend Andy used to hang out with her and Fred Swann and said they were both "crotch watchers"

  • the sound is a bit too sharp when someone uses 8' and 16' together

when they are alone they sound great but when together... run, run for your... EARS

  • I agree that the mix between the 16 and 8 foot trumpets were horrible. It sounded good up untill she decided to ruin the peice in order to show some stops on the organ.

  • Before i haven't liked performances of Bish... Have been thinkin that they are "too american" for my european taste. However, this changes my idea of mrs. Bish' performaces! =) The piece is well interpreted, and specially I like when she doesn't have too many stops used simultaneously.

  • Yes! It helps a great deal that she uses a clean orchestration and fingering with only a few stops - particularly the very fine trumpets. Her posture is very good, too - not theatrical and showy. A talented woman who showed us she can do proper Baroque-style interpretation.

  • It is my opinion too - an artist is one who using only a few stops can give a piece full justice. Anybody can play Tutti.

  • Une femme à l'orgue... houa! Les temps changent!... Heureusement et very good!

  • @ANTOONMAKA

Watch Sophie-Veronique Cauchefer-Choplin, St Sulspice, Paris - Super

    Regardez Sophie-Veronique Cauchefer-Choplin, Paris - Super

  • terrible registration and she is dressed like a clown once again

  • Its called Trumpet Voluntary for nothing. You NEED THE TRUMPETS !!.

And the final of this piece, has to be played on Tutti to feel, experience and joy of the organ and this piece.

  • John Stanley does not use full organ for any of his pieces and he would certainly of not used 16ft trumpets in his pieces, its just dianne bish being her usual flashy self and ruining the pieces.

  • Rather nice organ... xD.

  • English organs in Stanley's day didn't have independant pedal divisions!

  • Dear Diane , Always a great joy to meet you, to listen to you - thank a lot ( from France )

  • John Stanley. what a great composer he was =) this volontary is so beautiful

  • This is absolutely beautiful. i have to say that I am somewhat envius because I would have liked to be at this concert. The sound effect of playing the back section with the front section probably must have bordered on the ethereal.

  • I challenge these trumpet stops to the State Trumpets at St. John!!

  • I love the sets of en chamades of the Coral Ridge organ for their fiery sound. But St. John's State Trumpets are in a league of their own IMO. Maybe the Atlantic City convention Hall organs' 16' Grand Ophicleide stop standing on over 100" of wind pressure might top the State Trumpets. That's if the caretakers over there can get that organ working again.

  • I wonder if Ms. Bish, who played in both Protestant and Romish churches shared the very fundamentalist, ultraconservative views of the televangelist who led Coral Ridge back in those days.

  • Um....to Speaks3703, en chamade means "to sound a parley" and thus are typically placed horizontally projecting from the front of the organ. This organ at Coral Ridge does NOT have an en chamade English Horn. An English Horn is a colour stop and in most instances as it is here at Coral Ridge, is found on the Solo Division.

  • i like handel81's version alot more

  • This is awesome. Bish is good organist, just wish she'd put more trills in at the beginning. But thats just being fussy lol

  • I like this instrument but to bad its in such a horrible place.....

  • i agree...and now the place is worse with graham-cracker in charge!

  • Comment removed

  • On this organ, the pipes in the back are called the Antiphonal Division featuring the large Trumpet de Fetes.

Also in the back: 2' Fifteenth, 4' Octave, 8' Spitzflöte and Spitzflöte Celeste, and 8' Principal. Additions have been added in the back, but at the time of this recording, this was the specification.

  • The organ is not my favorite instrument, but I always enjoy hearing Diane Bish play. She is obviously preeminent in her field. I wish I had that dexterity and technical ability on the piano.

  • Diane Bish is indeed an awesome organist. As for the Coral Ridge Organ, I would wait on judging this instrument. The television stations the Joy of Music airs on have poor audio quality which is quite a shame since the Joy of Music episodes are recorded at some of the best organs America and Europe has to offer. Get organ centric labels like Delos or Gothic to record the Coral Ridge Organ onto CD and I bet the instrument would sound completely different than it does on TV.

  • The video I got this piece from is actually great quality, but at the time I uploaded this clip, Youtube was not yet allowing pieces to be uploaded in stereo sound. I might re-upload this piece in stereo sound at a later time.

  • this is the best your going to get tamiasthechipmunk if you want the real feel go to her live recording no recording can sound like the real thing....... oh they put a man on the moon but they can't bring you real effects of an organ... go figure

  • Indeed. I attended a concert Diane held at a church in Holland, MI. Hearing her live blows away hearing her on TV.

  • which church was that held at? I'm from Vriesland MI...wouldn't it have made to have her play on LaGrave's Organ in GR? It's the biggest organ around....

  • The Holland, Mi concert was held at Dimnent Chapel at the Hope College campus. The organ was very good while the space was equally good.

  • nice

  • Beautiful! I love this piece.

  • i actually think the 16' solo trumpet sounds better in this piece than an 8'

  • splendido...un suono eccezzionale..ma la pedaliera e le trombe... perfettamente accordate..da noi è molto difficile.. oddio non ovunque.. ma come qui...bellissimo..

  • I visit Florida once a year. Who can I contact to find out when I can hear and see the organ in this video.

    Wally Tabor

  • I would visit the church's website. The music section tells all about the concerts and performances coming up. It also lists contacts (email, phones) for additional info.

  • Ottimo*******

  • that was amazing!

  • does anybody have the sheet for this piece? I've searched all over for it, but just can't find it. Thanks:)

  • I have this exact transcription edited by Miss Bish. If you would like I can send it to you via email if youd like. Send me a message letting me know.

  • It should be all over the place if you look online. This is very standard wedding repetoire, basically if you are a trumpet player you have to be familiar with this piece if you play weddings. Although, I'm not sure how prevalent the organ version is online but i'm sure it must be there somewhere. Either way you are going to have to pay for it...

  • i cannot believe that this is a pipe organ ...

  • those trumpets on the recording sound like demented oboes.

  • Or slightly Kazoo-ish?

  • Now that you do mention that, I somewhat agree. But I think that is a very distinct sound that gives this organ it's character.

  • It does, it adds a unique quality to it.

  • Keep in mind, this recording is not of the best quality. They sound completely different in person.

  • even so, the trumpets still sound like demented oboes. Give me a real trumpet any day

  • u want a trumpet from hell, listen to boardwalk hall's grand ophicliede

  • I am not for one minute knocking Diane Bish. She is fantastic organist, but I still feel, you would produce a better quality of sound, by scrapping those fake trumpet type things, Having the traditional organ pipes, it sounds a lot better.

I must admit it gives the Organ character, but nothing special.

With trumpet things, the timber is very thin, reedy. even General MIDI sounds just as good, (regards sound quality)

  • The official name of those trumpet things are Trumpet En Chamade.

  • That is assuming they are French. However, they frequently go by many other names and the true French Trompette en Chamade is vertical like any other. Because there are five different sets of horizontal trumpets on this organ, it is necessary to distinguish between them. They are, in this case, assigned several names, including Herald trumpet (8') and English Horn (8'). Another good one that this organ does not have is the original horizontal trumpet, namely, Spanish Trumpet.

  • @falcons1988 Nothing is as good as the real thing. You deal with what God gives you and you make do. It would sound dumb to have a duet with silence: Organ, silence, organ, silence. So you put a trumpet stop in there.

  • good, but you still can't beat an actual trumpet playing it, with organ.

  • I'm getting married in June & using this tune for my processional & the church has trumpet pipes with the organ. Beautiful!

  • Isn't this actually Trumpet Tune?

  • I'm not sure. My score says Trumpet Voluntary in D Major, John Stanley.

  • That's correct, this piece's title is often confused with the Jeremiah Clarke (the one that many people think is Purcell but it's not.) Trumpet Tune, which is also very standard wedding repertoire. It is the Trumpet Voluntary in D.

  • Bravo VERY NICE!I like this piece and iplay this piece on church organ.

  • I have long been a fan of Diane Bish and have seen this marvelous pipe organ on TV for years. Well, last week on my vacation to FL I actually played several pieces on this organ. What a privilege! It is an incredibly beautiful instrument. If you want sheer power, this is it. Those 8 foot trumpet stops are enough to blow you out of your seat! This video is probably from the late 80's because the new console was installed in 1989. Thank you, staff of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church!

  • There is no such thing as too much 32'. Stop being such purists and just enjoy the POWER!

  • True. If you read the caption on my channel page, there is an excerpt from one of Diane's books (Church Music Explosion) where she talks about being creative; don't be afraid to experiment with different combinations. So many people register purely for the organ because they are too afraid to try anything different.

  • no, tempo is perfect, but I don't like how she plays the trumpet figures as even eighth notes sometimes and some times her playing makes it feel a bit sluggish. (although, I'm a trumpet player so perhaps it's different, but I don't think so....)

  • im glad she plays pieces faster than most performers. i went to a concert at the oberlin conservatory in ohio which is one of the best in the country and even those performers almost put me to sleep

  • This piece and this organ were made for each other. The fast tempo creates excitement!

  • sounds rather like krummhorn

  • is it a little fast for anyone else?

  • Well played but how can you pla a trumpet voluntary without a trumpet??

    Really dislike this "trumpet sound"!

  • I agree totally.

  • Yet again someone playing a piece of music on a totally innapropriate organ. This piece was written for a 2 manual instrument and pedals. This sound has very little to do with 1725.Much better to use a 2 manual tracker organ.A great deal of the original tonal idea is lost in the long reverberation of the building. If you want to play this on horizontal trumpets,go to Spain or Portugal.Evora or Coimbra would be ideal and much closer tonally to the original idea.Yes it is too fast.

  • Oh get a life!!

  • Bish is an amazing artist, but yet again, she plays things too fast. Is this an effort to impress? I'm not suggesting that this piece should be played much slower, but as with all her performances, Bish takes off running at the beginning, depriving the listener of the truth of any piece.

  • The trumpet stops of this organ have such a fiery sound. Love it.

  • Power! A good organ reflects God. Something like this is played in heaven I bet.

  • Nice! you know I see that they have a new console now after this one, Did they upgrade the whole organ? and do they still have this console?.

  • In 1989, Rodgers installed a new console, and just recently, in 2005, they added some new digital voices to the organ and updated the control system on the console, and finally, in 2006, Burton Tidwell added some new pipework and regulation. You can visit the Coral Ridge Website to read more about the organ's history.

  • Heck! That sure is one way to get the bride out the door!

    :)

  • Awesome ... Diane You'r A Great Woman

  • Great!

  • Poor Stanley would have been deaf as well as blind after this!!! This organ is lethal, and should have a health warning. It's also dangerously addictive!!!

  • Fantastic... Diane is truly the best!

    Thanks for this great music

  • What?? this is not Stanley!! this is a non barroque or classic variation on one simple nice piece BY STANLEY!

I've played all 30 voluntaries by Stanley, and I know what I am talking about.

  • Sorry to disappoint: this is genuine Stanley (albeit with very 'over the top' registration! Once heard on the near contemporary Adlington Hall instrument in Cheshire (little two manual) with an English non-responsive trumpet!!! Actually, it sounded wonderful...

  • WOW...well played Diane, the 16 Trumpet sounds great as well as this wonderful Ruffati

  • mixed with the 8 foot ones they sound awful together, on there own there are great.

  • I love this piece! I've never heard it played with a 16' trumpet rank though; only with a couple of 8' ranks. Interesting!

  • Very good
