  • DIFFERENT TIMES, INDEED !!!!!!!!!!

  • THE WORLDS BEST R+R SONG + COVER. VA. BCH. DOME 1975

  • RONSON!!! GENIUS!!!

  • Thanks : )

    ...Jx

  • Ronson was a guitar God

  • It was Mick Rolfs on this album

  • best version in my opinion

  • so, who ripped who off? Television or Mott the hoople?

  • @jackcan1000 I think considering Mott started in the 60's, and Television in the 70's, it was probably Mott. ;)

  • saw them at the West Palm Beach Auditorium...New York Dolls were the warm up band...

  • sweet cowbell........

  • I got a fever and the only prescription is... more cowbell!

  • I heard this before the original... love them both :)

  • Adorei esta versão!

  • I think All The Yound Dudes is one of the greatest rock records of all time.Easily in my top 10.Maybe top 5.Mick Ralphs...this guy can play the guitar. What a band.I only wish I could have seen them in concert

  • @stetsmanable me too!

  • @Scriabin28 - It wasn't me, but in the past I've accidentally clicked thumbs-down when I had really meant to click thumbs-up.

  • This is the first band I EVER saw in concert at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey in 1970. The warm up band was Procol Harum!

  • One of the greatest songs ever recorded, Mick Ralphs is as smooth as silk. Now don't argue with me, this is a great song and that's all there is to it.

  • What black-hearted bastard gave this song a thumbs-down?!?!?! Jeeeesus!

  • I want more cowbell!! This could roll away the stone with more cowbell!!!

  • this is the best version. smoked many a doobie to this tune.

  • Ride in that stutz bearcat jim

  • Groovy, what's not to like. Thanks for posting this. I still like Reed's live version, but this is terrif ...

  • I loved this version. I can't remember if they played it when I saw them in concert (yup, I'm that old).

  • More cowbell :)

  • Mick Ronson what a great player, miss him so..

  • Great song. ....probably my favorite version. i agree with Kirbygene....I can literally almost smell the seet weed smoke when hearing this one....

  • I can't listen to Mott The Hoople without smelling weed, lol

  • @kirbygene

    Yeah right. OK.

  • HAH !! I'M 59. THIS IS THE BEST VERSION OF "SWEET JANE." BACK IN THE DAY WE USED TO GET REALLY RIPPED UP TO THIS TUNE.

  • @MrKevinTN they were very popular for a while in my town like when you woke up in the morning you'd hear them play one of the boys on KSHEwitch is our Rock station it used to be badass but now they play the same shit over and over again and it pisses people off we have stations like Khits96 that almost never play the same song in at least 34 hours. so I think it's kinda cool

  • Love this version

  • I saw them in a high school gym type place in Zurich in the autumn of 1974.

  • @MarshaMcDougall Now, I really am jealous. lol Must've been amazing!!

  • Great , great song!

  • no offense to any body....i too think this is good ,great....but its slicked up ...lou wanted it done just like he did it on rock and roll animal....with dick wagner and scott hunter ...two of the most underated guitarists in history...but not to their peers...lou likes this version and in an interview with bbc ,Ian admitted that the best version is done on rock and roll animal....one of the best live albums.....

  • @halcyonpark

Screw Lou...he said he loves this take on it by Mott...most under-rated band ever.

  • @MrKevinTN Totally agree! It knocks the socks off Lou Reed

  • @MrKevinTN read what i said again....i stated that lou likes this version......

  • @MrKevinTN i agree with your statement....lou did say that......but he also stated that it is very commercial......no offense....

  • @MrKevinTN Mott are amazing. Can't believe folks gotta fight about music. IMHO, it's all about personal taste, not who's the best this or that. Why can't we all just listen and shut it? And my old lady IS rolling her eyes now. LOL Have a good one, man.

  • @halcyonpark Errr....this is the Ian Hunter version. Not Lou's. Rock n Roll Animal is a great album, I have it. But, lately...I dig this one more. My girl likes this one better anyway, so.... lol

  • @Gwid01 hey guido......what are you talking about........read my entry again and get back to me ok.......i think i said it was ian's version......lmao

  • @halcyonpark Name is from Celtic Mythology, btw. The "01" isn't meant to be read-- YT just added it on since my name wasn't available, but I can see how you could read it like that. What I was saying was that this song is Mott's version not Lou's. At one point I loved Lou's, now this is my fave. Personal choice. If it's funny to you, great.

  • @Gwid01 hey guido....go back and read my entry....i thought i made it clear that it was ian's version......lol...

  • Not ashamed to say I am closer to 50 than 60 and I was weaned on Mott as a young teen. Read up on them...Bowie and Lou Reed (as in this song), had a profound influence on them. I like Mott's version of this song better. They really popped hard in NYC in 1973-75. Ian Hunter was a positive influence for me and my career choices.

  • @10newjersey Yep, the whole glam thing. It was cool for a while, but petered out. At least, we have the music left. Would've loved to see them back then, but too young. . He's a positive influence on us now, however. Did they play CB's? THAT would've rocked hard for sure. Musician or clothing designer? lol (Career wise...) Later, man.

  • @Gwid01

No Gwid, I am a sportswriter actually lol....I meant it sort of helped me face my feminine side although I am straight. Not sure of a better way of putting that. Bowie was same way, Lou Reed also but in a far more dark and twisted NYC decadance kind of way. Rock on MOTT

  • MORE COWBELL

  • @snyper105 Yes, I am trying to find a version that does have more Cowbell..Perhaps the Velvet UnderGround and Mott can record again and find out who can put more Cowbell into their respective recordings

  • to much cowbell

  • You can never have too much cowbell ;)

  • @pulenyo Can never have enough Cowbell.. I think every song should have a little Cowbell in it.

  • And the children are the only ones who blush. So many versions of this song, but this one still stands out as our fave. The Young Dudes album is sweet, no pun intended.. lol

  • @Gwid01 who else has covered this song?

  • @unclemort1960 Unclemort, I do believe that Lou Reed/ Velvet Underground did it first...but I can't be sure. Anyway, this is THE version, no matter what...IMHO. Run, don't walk, and buy "All the Young Dudes." You won't regret it.

  • I still have my All The Young Dudes Album...I think I got it when I was like 13yrs old...use to play this song over & over & over....

  • Been waiting for this version to post. Many Thanks!

Cowboy Junkies has it's own appeal, but this THE version.

  • Makes me think of Jane Fonda.

  • I love this cover. I can really hear where (the Clash's) Mick Jones got some of his riffs.

  • Met Ian outside a show back when I was in High school...a couple years after Mott... he was touring with Heart. Didn't really know who he was but he was cool to us... now I'm in my 40s and I realize what a legend he is....like to shoot the crap with him now

  • ...now, that's wot I call quite good.........

  • Comment removed

  • Not ashamed to say it, I'm 41 and am so glad I can still see and hear Hunter and Ronson whenever I want.

    Mott Rocks!!!!!!! Ronson Rocks!!!!!!!

    Here, hear!!!!!!!!!

  • @nancyann40 Me too Nancy!

  • @nancyann40 ...LOL... I'm 58 and "Not Ashamed" either!! Here, hear, and there, their!! This genre of music - at this time - with mott, T rex, Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground, Iggy Pop, Bowie, etc., was the true "Punk Rock' AND "Glam Rock"!!

  • @nancyann40 Your so young!

  • @nancyann40 Its not Mick Ronson, its Mick Ralphs. Ronson was the guitarist for David Bowie. Mick Ralphs played with Mott, then went on to form a little band called Bad Company. Thats why Bad Co was able to record "Ready for Love" without crediting Mott

  • i like this cover. i prefer the velvet underground version but i can't see a band covering this song as well as mott do it!

  • Exactly!

  • i went to there concerts back then and the 70's was the best time's

  • LoudeRRRRR ! Play Loud !

  • Great okd tune..Yhx. for share

  • Hey, thanks for posting Mott's great cover of this excellent Reed song.

  • Love Mick Ralph's guitar on this one...

    excellent!! - MLC

  • Hoople guitar 'speaks'

  • better in v.u. ??

  • roncolatto-

I dunno. After listening about 15 times to both versions,,,, can we say,, maybe on one day, we go with Mott,,,and on another, maybe go with velvet.

After I read my own words,, I guess it still comes down to I dunno.

Maybe we can just go with, there 2 different songs, and also 2 great songs?

  • Agree with you rockinroller7--This is a really great song ;0)

  • hilapat,

Yeah, I can listen to either version, and still do.

  • This is a cool one!
