starting to laugh did he say It takes a theif but with blago It takes a crook he questioing after natalie drowned to death if he wanted to sell off the splendor crooked politicans sell things off he knows it too CHICAGO ENEMY TERROITY TO ROBERT WAGNER but HOME TO NATALIE WOOD in 1968 and 1969maybe she would be alive today she would helping out OBAMA RJ needs a new gameplan before he is caught.
@truro007 I was 10 also in 1968 & I had a Huge Crush on Robert Wagoner & would skip my dinner every nite so I could watch his It takes a thief show. We couldn't watch tv & eat dinner at the same time. Man, have things changed. But I thought he was about the sexiest man alive. HaHa. He was handsome but that parted hairstyle, icky. At the time it was modern, actually quite modern. Hair over the ears, wow!
Oh,my God! I was so in love with Robert Wagner when I was 5 years-old and the show was on TV! My first school notebook has his pic on the cover.I think it was the first time I had a crush on a man.Hahaa! Now the show seems so infantil, but Wagner and the music are still great!
Robert Wagner has always been solid gold (with great contribution from Natalie & Jill of course) and still has vastly more at 80 than any of the young buck snots ever will.
Robert Wagner doesn't have it anymore...and clooney is almost box office gold..he could finance it himself...I'd say its like when Mel Gibson made Maverick
Thanks for the real thing! Those TV Toons crapmongers have a different theme for "It Takes A Thief" on their collection, probably from the pilot instead of the actual series theme heard here. They ignore all inquiries and complaints.
Great Dave Grusin theme! Thanks again. BTW, the theme, which was always this song, got better-arranged each season.
Little known irony-in the movie 1960 "The War Lover", Robert Wagner is trying to slip into girl's boarding house with a no males policy. as they come up the stairs he trips and makes a noise, which causes the girl to say something like "Well, we'll never have to worry about you being a thief". Just thought it was funny.
@Janafan4Ever The one where he is dancing and turning in a circle with his eyes half closed is from the pilot and he is dancing with Senta Berger (see one of the clips here-they play that scene). I think the torch scene is also from the pilot, entitled Magnificent Thief (didn't use the theme we all know and love though which was a disappointment to me) but I liked the movie -of course!
I recall reading in an article that when It Takes a Thief premiered in January 1968, it provided a dose of excitement to the ABC schedule and quickly became the network's most popular adventure-themed show, because by that time, Batman was dying and was on its way out.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the last of the Batman episodes were not 2-parters as in previous years, right?
This composition is actually very simple, but yet the final out come is tremendous. How can something so simple sound so good. The themes from Mission Impossible, Miami Vice and I Spy are all incredible as well, but this is my favorite, favorite of all time.
@artistdonn I wholeheartedly agree with you about this theme song. My brother had gone off to camp and I finally got to see this for the first time. The music was simply orgasmic! and then I saw Wagner.....it was love at first listen and first sight for that teenager back then! Do you remember the theme music they played whenever Astaire was on the show (only 4 episodes)...I can hear it in my head...it fit him too, like his top hat!
That network is awesome. I don't get it in my area but my relatives do. I spent the wee hours on my last visit watching old Magnum, Rockford and Simon & Simon
Was the word "movies" anywhere on my comment? I don't think so. I made an honest observation regarding TV land's early days compared to today. I prefer these classic TV shows rather than some of the midless crap you see today.
No, No...I WAS AGREEING WITH YOU and the fact that TV Land was better when it first started..Now they ARE showing theatrical movies which I can not see as having anything to do with nostalgic tv. If they want to show a movie on TV land, show an old "Movie of the Week". Where is the "round-up" line-up when they used to show westerns on the weekend and "detective shows" on another line-up. What happened to the creativity on that station?
That's what I thought. I remember those "round up" programs as well. Some weeks they would show westerns, and police/detective shows, etc. As for creativity, I suppose this age of instant gratification and short attention spans are what you have to thank for that. Thank you for the clarification and long live classic TV!
Absolutely!! Dave Grusin at the top of his TV-theme game!! A jazz-inspried CLASSIC!! And, of course, the show itself is CLASSIC as well--Robert Wagner at his debonair best!

Kudos to Mr. Dave Grusin for composing that great theme song. Check out his credentials. One of the most amazing musical composers of this time.

why hasn't anyone come up with a movie with george clooney as the lead
fedewa1226 1 year ago
@fedewa1226 Two reasons... 1. Why would you do that when Robert Wagner's still alive and sexier than Clooney. and, 2. It would be dreadful

At the beginning there's a clip of Al blowing a safe with a torch of some sort.
Also at one point at the top of the screen there's a shot of him dancing and looking like he's walking in a circle with his eyes half closed.
And then just before 30 seconds we see him skiing.
Which episodes are those from?
