albert was a roomate @ st.johns ravenscourt ,dave keon/billy harris hockey school in the early seventies. Hey if you see this billy stewart frm The Pas., check me out wayne kazakoff. watchin the allstar game n saw the comerical again. so cool.
Canadian is pretty shit now says. Their auto service and quality of work is horrendous. I had a wheel balanced there and on the highway one of the studs snapped off because they over tightened it.
Canadian tire doesn't take refunds. I was surprised. If a package is open they tell you to go buy something in the store. I was in a hurry and ask to have it in a gift card and they said "no". It's too bad because I've shopped there since I bought my first pair of skates back in 1977. This policy cost my business and now I've told you.
Any Canucks fans remeember when they's chant "Albert, Albert!!" during the Locust Years of the late 70s, when the team was an embarrassment to the game of hockey, for so many reasons?
Canadian tire gives a meagre 10 day price guarantee, the mom and pops hardware store gives a 30 day price guarantee- it feels shitty buying something at full price just to see it at half price two weeks later- with no refund on the difference.
A few years ago Canadian tire used to give you 4% back on cash purchases- that went down to 3%, then 2%, and now almost nil. - Home Hardware is looking good lately
I remember going to a Leafs game back in the early 80's when the team were playing dreadful. Some of the fans at Maple Leaf Gardens started chanting Albert! Albert! as the Leafs desperately needed a player like Albert. ha ha ha.
number 1 these kids are weak at picking teams... you need to get all the sticks and throw them on each end... you dont know whos on your team and its more fun thats how you do it in real pick up at the odr.. and number 2 is albert his last name or was this comercial just a bullshit towards basssicccc hockey knowlage.
The kid picking the teams (the one in the blue hat) looks like Flick from the Christmas Story movie... the one who got his tongue stuck to the frozen pole in the schoolyard.
They shot this commercial at Echo Lake in the mountains outside of Denver and at the Denver University arena. The used seniors from our hockey team because it wouldn't make them ineligble for NCAA hockey because their final season was over. Bill Stewart from our Denver University team played Albert. The freshman, sophomore and junior players got to be in the crowd for $5 each. Nice. I never saw this commercial in Canada but heard it was huge.
thanks for the history lesson! :) that is pretty cool........that is interesting that the crowd had to pay $5 each....when I was living in San Francisco...the crowds didn't pay anything and were given some free stuff...... :)
@R396 Well thinking Canadians go around saying Eh for starters is quite dumb. And mayb e letting your government destroy your country for the past few decades without doing anything about it, now thats dumb!! Meanwhile us 'dumb' Canadian's have had a great economy, a housing market that has been rising for decades, and a society of people who would NEVER sit back and let their government fly planes into their buildings then tell the people to accept their BS story on what happened. Thats DUMB
lol my teacher's last name is Albert (though pronounced in french. He keeps trying to convince us he could have played in the NHL and always mentions this commercial. Great to finally see it.
I remember the day you actually had a guy at Canadian Tire knowledgable enought about hockey equipment to help you..now if you find someone they just say whats you talkin about? The equipment is all from China too. They should change the name to China Tire.
The ALBERT commercials were iconic pieces of Canadiana in their time. (Early 80's.) The posters used to be in every arena in the country too. Thanks for bringing back some great memories!
I bet you're just mad because this commerical makes you sad as this happens to you to this very day-if you're not too gay to attempt playing sports other than pocket pool with your brother Jimmy
Canadian Tire has gone to shit, almost everything in thier stores today is made in Asia. May as well change the name to Arabian Tire, because there is nothing Canadian about it anymore. Almost all the goods I buy today are from the USA, and made in the USA, and it's going to stay that way until Canadian companies stop trying to take advantage of the Canadian dollar. The dollar's at par with the US, the prices should be too. It's worth the gas money if it's something expensive.
It's actually been less than par for a while now, although close. The store never was that big in selling Canadian made stuff anyways, but was Canadian in terms of where it was sold at.
Wow, this takes me back. What CAN'T you find on youtube? LOL - my name IS Albert and I remember hearing "Wish we had a guy like Albert" ALL the time when that ad ran. I can't believe I found it this easily! Wow that takes me back!!
Still one of the best commercials ever. We had a mentally handicapped guy on our school basketball team and we always used to chant, "Albert" when he stepped on to the floor!
I believe soccer has grown in Winnipeg. I lived in Winnipeg, and I remember the senior teams having a strong following. I think the outdoor game that has not worked there in the past is not as sellable as the indoor game." Stewart, who owns a small oil and gas company in Denver,
Perhaps his greatest claim to fame came when he was cast in a famous Canadian Tire commercial as Albert. Yes, that "Albert! Albert! Albert!"
I'm not sure of the relationship of this commercial to soccer as this is for Hockey. Is it that Stewart is a big Soccer player? I assume the guy, Stewart, that you speak of, is claiming that he played the older Albert at the end of the commercial, because I know it was not the young Albert.
That was sad in the begining
