I'm sure Eddie's got at least decent guard pass skills, but I have yet to see it in any video I've seen him in. Looked like he put very little effort in trying to pass from the top. Was that even a sweep or just a power move?
when has eddie claimed to be a great coach he frequently says he sucks and learns from his students, i am no 10th planet fan, but i don't act disrespectful either.
exactly , this dude is just milking that one win for all its worth. an all of a sudden he supposed to have invted half of jiujitsu. i can't belive peopel by into this shit,
@GHRepresent I have rolled with Royler and even outweighing him by 20lbs he destroyed me without trying. I think if I had a win over Royler in competition I would stop competing and end on a high note.
He doesn't claim to invent anything. He just put together techniques into a grappling system designed for no gi grappling. If you don't like it, watch a different video. :)
@ccadstudent2008 nonetheless, i think he is overated and he hides behind a marketing hype. he could realy test himself and his unique techniques out if he wanted to . but he and i and a lot ppl know that he is one loss away from having this empire falling down. however i think he has very good jiujitsu, so don't get me wrong. he stays tight , and i peraonlly u learn that from training gi.
@GHRepresent Competing isn't where his heart is. Who are you to bash on that? Not everyone studies a martial art so they can win medals and earn fame. And Eddie didn't enter ADCC or beat roll with Royler for that reason either. I've heard from a few people that they were turned off by his ego, but I think the vast majority of the time he is quite humble, and I know that in his books he is constantly giving shout outs to the amazing athletes he has learned from, INCLUDING Royler.
Honestly, they have very very VERY different styles. Roger works a lot more with principles, with tightening up basics and where to apply pressure to make things work. He also tosses out a lot of fancier techniques as 'too complicated', even if I can make them work. Sniff. ^_^
Eddie works within his system, which is great, but sometimes I feel evolving within that framework is harder in the long run. You can get the hang of the 10th planet system in six months if you try, and I'd find it hard to keep doing the same stuff for months on end after that. That said, Eddie and the rest of his guys are trying to evolve 10th planet, adding new popular techniques as they go, so maybe that will be less true as time goes on.
@Stalkachu I agree I think basically what eddie is doing is showing you his game with a few techniques that he has evolved from bjj. I still will probably start going to a pjj school sometime in my future though because having eddies game with a few new tricks thrown in is like having a gracie tell you the secrets behind his game.
I also think it's really important to have applicable skills from as many martial arts as possible, and I think it would be naive for someone to limit to JUST PJJ.
yea he's beyond black belt he's already revolutionized Jiu-Jitsu with the rubber guard and other techniques. World class for sure, but he'll admit he aint the best athlete strongest, fastest, best endurance, he kicks ass purley on skill/technique and of course his sick flexibility.
Dang Royler Gracie clicking the dislike button lol

Hey! There was a butterfly hook in there and everything! It was a power sweep, at least. ^_-
But meh. If you like playing on the bottom, you're gonna play on the bottom even when you're on top. If that makes sense. @_@

Stalkachu, you train at rga, which would you say is a better no-gi trainer roger or eddie? Or more beneficial coach for bjj.

I hope you're joking.
11-time Mundials and 5-time ADCC champion on one side, and on the other? What has Eddie won? That's what I thought.
tomwalker389 2 years ago
Coaching and competing are two entirely different things, what has carlos jnr won?

Unlike Eddie, Carlinhos has never claimed to be a great coach.

Do other fighters harp on their one notable lifetime win like Eddie does over Royler?
Do Drysdale and Braulio each milk their one victory over Marcelo for over 6 years?

@ tomwalker389
Braulio has more that one win over Marcelo lol
