Since TK doesn't answer any questions here are a few answers:

He used the bridgeblock mod (now called controller block) to make the lights go on/off at the spawner since the bridge block's function is to appear and disappear so that's also how he farmed the cacti. The bridgeblock does not need wiring only an energy flow right towards it, in this case he used a lever. Redstone is also possible. Even though i don't understand the hallway either. He might have made his own glowing blocks.
