People like to criticize sport players for the decisions they've taken (LeBron, A-Rod, Barry Bonds, Tiger Woods, etc.), but the fact is that many of us would've done the same thing if we were in their positions. Hypocrisy seems to be the name of the game in the Internet. No matter what, A-Rod will be in the Baseball Hall of Fame when he retires, whether you like it or not.

But as soon as he saw Bonds going to trial, McGwire and Giambi admitting, he realized he better say something before someone takes it further. He took them at a point when he was injured (so not the young rookie you mentioned that was hitting them out of the park in Seattle), so he obviously "needed" to do something to not lose ground with other players. 80% of Major League Baseball players use steroids. If the MLB really had an issue with players using steroids, Bonds' world records would be invalidated, his MVP awards would be revoked, and Rodriguez would be out of a job.
