I'm really glad that they played "Creed." It would've been very easy to play the least "Jesus-y" stuff in their catalog for an audience that might have unreceptive to their message.
Hello looking for songs off the "Beyond Time and Space" CD if possible ty. Love seeing Petra in show live its a mind blowing and faith shaking experience as well.
John was from Indiana, right? And FarmAid was...where? Somewhere in the midwest? I wonder how many in the crowd knew who John Schlitt was before he even went on state (old fans of Head East). Off to wikipedia...
I agree! This and Creed are two of Petra's best! I have to say I thank God from the bottom of my heart for this band. It's because of their songs I was able to commit some of the Word to memory. I feel like God made this band for me to listen to.
I've played festivals and show's like this. The bands (unless you're headliners) don't get sound checks or not very good ones. What probably happened is they used "Destiny" as the soundcheck song which was a good choice for them to do that. When it was over, "Creed" came on and the sound guys had it dialed in. Awesome Petra was included in the gig. Had no idea.
It seems that Petra didnt get a sound man familiar with who was suppose to be backing vocals and lead vocal etc. along with knowlege of how to achieve a good mix to make Them sound as good as they actully are. A bad thing to happen with such mainsteam exposure. IM sure God used this performance to reach many, however. PTL
I was at FarmAid V I have seen Petra in long when oldist invited me go and neace to see Willy's concert the awsome thing Nesl Young i think played after them i had know idea thy be ministrying there but big queastion is would a christian band today beable go back to streets make new fans out of siner who there i thankful god leat be at Cawboys Stadiom in Irving Texas god us them there it a awsome show i wish be a nother Petra soon..
I saw this tour, Labor Day weekend 1992 in St. Louis. I was invited by a friend - and was a bit skeptical with the 'Christian Band' thing. I look back to that evening...the first song 'Destiny'....the night my life changed....and remember it like it was yesterday. Thank you, Petra for waking me up...and thank you to Mikosoft for posting this video!!
nah man. he helped manage them and stuff like that. He actually got a free guitar that looks like a strat but it's a different brand. And the pickguard has all the petra album covers on it. It's pretty sweet looking.
i think the guitar youre talking about its a petra 33, bob made some of them and sold them to the public, i bought two of them, a black one and a green one and he signed them for me =)
Johnny is wow men... i don´t know is somebody feel the HOLE in the last concerts... This era, is the MOST INCREDIBLE John, Ronny, Bob, Johnny and Mr Louie.
They rock the night, not with music, WITH MESSAGE OF LIFE.
That have to learn many artist from today...
I can´t imagine a band from now, playing a song like CREED in a place with people who don´t know God... that is AMAZING!
Thanks for posting this! I'm a huge Petra fan...have been most of my life. And Creed is perhaps my favorite song. But what is Louie doing with the high hat in the beginning of the song?! Man, it completely ruined the keyboard part for me. ;-/
I'd say that makes sense except he starts with the high hat after the sampler part, when the regular chords come in. Oh well, I'm nitpicking! This is a great live performance! :-)
You are correct! It is Bob voice at the beginning that is too loud ( and not good). Actually the first line Bob doesn't sing and Ronnie does and that sounds fine, Bob comes in on the second line.
Ronnie and John Lawry were both excellent harmony singers.
el sonidista tardó casi 2 minutos para darse cuenta cual era el microfono del cantante principal!!!!!! Los amooooo

@BatarBongayVasol Petra is actually reforming with the original lead singer (Greg X Volz) and will release an album some time this year I think.
phantomflyer 1 year ago
@BatarBongayVasol They came out with a new CD called "Back to the Rock". The original singer and group are in it.

Wow, just wow. This looked like it would have been so much fun to see.
The only that bugs me is that Bob's mic is higher than John's.... Oops... :P

Creed still needed a LOT more of Bob...solo is barely audible....course the mix might be the actual board mix and NOT a TV mix.
Chinfuzzchet 2 years ago
Wow!! John sounds so fabulous on Creed. I think that is my favorite Petra song.....maybe.....hard to pick just one.

When in doubt... crank John Schlitt's mic. That should be a rule.

The "Creed " is very well done, though it's one of the most difficult songs that Petra has written.

there is a song called that, on the same album as "Destiny", "On Fire!"
jonke38 3 years ago
Sorry man, the song "Destiy" was not on the "On Fire album, it was on the "Unseen Power" album.

Is this the same Petra that had a song called,"More Power To Ya" in the early 80's?
airdriver 3 years ago
Yep! But Greg X Volz sang with them on that song!

This is exactly why I think Petra stands out in Christian music. Because for them it was not music, it was a ministry, a way to speak the good news.

infamouswriter 3 years ago
I think he keeps the tempo because the keyboard part seems like it runs from a sampler (at least the fast runs).
mikosoft 3 years ago
I'd say that makes sense except he starts with the high hat after the sampler part, when the regular chords come in. Oh well, I'm nitpicking! This is a great live performance! :-)

I agree those taps were unnecessary. The rising cymbol effects were perfect.

to everyone who has no clue that is ronnies voice bobs is much higher than that.
oidogiigoirhmngoirhg 4 years ago
no..thats bobs voice
ricanrolear 4 years ago
If you look at the very first part of the footage Bob is not even near his mike to be singing
oidogiigoirhmngoirhg 4 years ago
or turn Ronnies mic down. seems like Johns mic gets louder towards the middle/end of Destiny!
VMkoe 4 years ago
they needed to turn up Johns mic and bobs mic down! Seems like i seen this.. or another performance from another Farm Aid previous year!
VMkoe 4 years ago
Ronny's vocals are not very good. And I can hardly hear Johns voice.
sam4freedom74 4 years ago
Yes. I commented on these issues in video description.
mikosoft 4 years ago
actually thats bob's voice..i know casue ive watched lots of petra videos and ronny is a really good singer and bob isnt..hes my guitar hero though
ricanrolear 4 years ago
The vocals you hear (that is not good) is from Bob, not Ronny! Look at the begining of the video when Bob start singing.
