John Lennon was the rock in The Beatles roll. Thanks for all your videos showing Lennon's rhythm guitar, they show how good he was at layering a texture to their music that gave it a raw quality it may not have had otherwise. As a huge fan of Lennon in particular (and another Rickenbacker owner) I thank you!
@Denthedragon Bar a Bm normally, remove your index finger, fret the high e where the bar would be with your index. For extra bonus use your thumb to fret the low e string
@Denthedragon there is no Bm in this song, he's doing an F6 and a G6
first finger on the high e at the first, second finger on G second and third and fourth finger on D and B at the third, and slide the shape up. your root is on the D string, you can also fret the low E with your thumb if you like as long as you mute the A
First of all music is creativity.There is no certainty in music.There is however more than one way to play any song.I am a drummer of 40+ years and have been learning the bass for the last 2 years.I am speaking here as an experienced musician not an experienced bass player which I am not yet.But with what I have learned I know that some people hear things differently and may play the same note on a different string and fret.That's fine.Paul McCartney even played variations of his own songs.
@mjsokes if you're saying you followed the lead guitar during the intro, no you didnt. if youre saying you decided you'd improvise and copy the rhythm guitar for a bassline, then yes you did.
@Marluxia84 3rd fret A string (C) with his middle finger, then 2nd fret D string (E) with his index finger, then 5th fret A string (D) is what I see. :) I'm not there playing it though, so I could be wrong as well. *shrug*
Hey mj, i was wondering if you could help me out. I just purchased my first electric guitar (epiphone dot), and i have no clue what kind of amp to get because im new to them. What kind of amp would you suggest for and aspiring rock and blues player who is influenced highly by the beatles of course lol, for under $275
@Alipollie For blues stuff you could get a Marshal MG 10 CD. They're really small, have a great twangy clean sound, and have a real bluesy fuzzy distortion sound when you turn the tone knobs on your guitar down. They cost about 80 bucks but dont be fooled, they sound great and are real light and portable.
@RevolverKat no sence really but obviously i DO know hofners are one of the best basses and i want to be a bassest/guitarest so u can say im jealous or envyous of people who have hofners because i know the value of a hofner and they actually got their hands on one
@CorvetteStingray75 Right.. if you want one so bad save some money and buy one. They come in three different models the Icon which is $200 then Contemporary (which I own) which is about $700 and the full fledged Hofners which are $2000+. By the way seeing how you want one.. would you hate yourself if you got one? Not making much sense bud.
@RevolverKat yea i know the prices but money is tigth rite now in this economy :/ and if i did owned one i wouldnt hate my self lol id spend every possible moment learning to play bass :D
Anybody know his recording setup? What camera and audio setup is he using? Also, what video editing software to get the multiple views. I want to do something similar to what he is doing and all the recommendations I am getting from experts seems kind of complicated and expensive. My guess is that he is keeping it simple.
i want to ask this like forever ...what is equipment ...i know ur amp its vox...the sound its too obvious....but whats ur fx...and ur guitar....an etc...thanks in advance btw...:)
MJ, if you've read the Recording Sessions book..... I'm figuring you are playing this stuff in less "takes" than the Beatles used, then again they would write and change a song as they went along. Good stuff mang. Any plans on scoring a Ricky 360-12? I'd like to hear/see you do some What You're Doing or If I Needed Someone.Keep keepin' bub!!!
I see you bought the German control panel like i did :) very nice! also, what bass amp do you use? they have a used vox T-15 online for 60 bucks, its just a smaller version of what paul used. This video is why i gave up on competing with you :(
@MrHurrikanable i posted an update in the comments section of the channel, but it's not great news. i have to suspend the announcement indefinitely. it's just going super duper slowly, slower than i ever expected. i'm sorry i jumped the gun with the hints, but i'll keep working on ways to keep you guys happy...like new vids. anyway sorry sorry sorry...
@mjsokes You don't have to apologize, man. We all love your work and thank you for giving a bit of your time to share your talent with all of us. Thank you, again.
Nice video. Is the guitar track the same one you posted earlier without the bass? Otherwise, I'm going to have to assume you really like the Beatles and particularly this song.

Most of the bassline is wrong
Marluxia84 5 months ago
@Marluxia84 do elaborate
mjsokes 5 months ago
@mjsokes I phrased it wrong, mainly the intro is. The first 3 notes follow the lead guitar, not the rhythm.
Marluxia84 5 months ago
@Marluxia84 yeah i did though
mjsokes 5 months ago
@mjsokes if you're saying you followed the lead guitar during the intro, no you didnt. if youre saying you decided you'd improvise and copy the rhythm guitar for a bassline, then yes you did.
Marluxia84 5 months ago
@Marluxia84 i follow the lead. it's C E D, not C C D, if that makes sense. i think we're talking about the same thing
mjsokes 5 months ago
@mjsokes We might be. All I know is that it goes E-String 8th fret, A string 7th fret, A string 5th fret.
Marluxia84 5 months ago
@Marluxia84 You do realize those are the notes he's playing, just on a different spot on the neck?
criticalhitonline 4 months ago
@criticalhitonline forgive my eyesight if that's what he's doing. from what i saw, he was just sliding from the 3rd to 5th fret
