  • John Lennon was the rock in The Beatles roll. Thanks for all your videos showing Lennon's rhythm guitar, they show how good he was at layering a texture to their music that gave it a raw quality it may not have had otherwise. As a huge fan of Lennon in particular (and another Rickenbacker owner) I thank you!

  • man,you are awesome. look at the hand.lennon and mccartney play like that

  • is your rickenbacker 3/4 scale?

  • @Deel73 Rick 325s just had a really short scale to begin with.

  • How are you playing that Bm?

  • @Denthedragon Bar a Bm normally, remove your index finger, fret the high e where the bar would be with your index. For extra bonus use your thumb to fret the low e string

  • @Denthedragon there is no Bm in this song, he's doing an F6 and a G6

first finger on the high e at the first, second finger on G second and third and fourth finger on D and B at the third, and slide the shape up. your root is on the D string, you can also fret the low E with your thumb if you like as long as you mute the A

  • I love you guys,, such honest delivery

  • You can do the same on a Gibson J160-E

  • First of all music is creativity. There is no certainty in music. There is however more than one way to play any song.I am a drummer of 40+ years and have been learning the bass for the last 2 years.I am speaking here as an experienced musician not an experienced bass player which I am not yet.But with what I have learned I know that some people hear things differently and may play the same note on a different string and fret. That's fine.Paul McCartney even played variations of his own songs.

  • @mjsokes I think you did just fine on the bass part. I learned that way with some slight differences, but definately good.

  • Rhythm is wrong mate.

  • Dude! You are beyond awesome and I love your guitars. lol. Should've added a Gretsch there.

  • Yea you got that something.... that baddass talent!

  • ur comments on some of these ppl's comments are funny as hell

  • Most of the bassline is wrong

  • @Marluxia84 do elaborate

  • @mjsokes I phrased it wrong, mainly the intro is. The first 3 notes follow the lead guitar, not the rhythm.

  • @Marluxia84 yeah i did though

  • @mjsokes if you're saying you followed the lead guitar during the intro, no you didnt. if youre saying you decided you'd improvise and copy the rhythm guitar for a bassline, then yes you did.

  • @Marluxia84 i follow the lead. it's C E D, not C C D, if that makes sense. i think we're talking about the same thing

  • @mjsokes We might be. All I know is that it goes E-String 8th fret, A string 7th fret, A string 5th fret.

  • @Marluxia84 You do realize those are the notes he's playing, just on a different spot on the neck?

  • @criticalhitonline forgive my eyesight if that's what he's doing. from what i saw, he was just sliding from the 3rd to 5th fret

  • @Marluxia84 3rd fret A string (C) with his middle finger, then 2nd fret D string (E) with his index finger, then 5th fret A string (D) is what I see. :) I'm not there playing it though, so I could be wrong as well. *shrug*

  • @mjsokes I think you did great.... this video is to my ears as bacon is to my mouth....

  • @Marluxia84 No, Its pretty dead on balls accurate...

  • @MrIvanKite no, the first 3 notes aren't correct. Aside from that it's completely accurate.

  • @MrIvanKite watch?v=niQ12HsJYKc

  • @Marluxia84 hes not paul judge it on the sound of it not how its played and it sounds damn good

  • @Marluxia84 He has it right...watch The Ed Sullivan Show...in the intro Paul slides up to the D.

  • you didn't do the macca hand thing before the chorus

  • Where's the got to get you into my life bass video?

  • absolutely marvelous, i love this

  • Cool I didn't know u had a hofner

  • BEAST!! dude you should add you playing the lead part.

  • Vox Amps?

  • Hey mj, i was wondering if you could help me out. I just purchased my first electric guitar (epiphone dot), and i have no clue what kind of amp to get because im new to them. What kind of amp would you suggest for and aspiring rock and blues player who is influenced highly by the beatles of course lol, for under $275

  • @Alipollie For blues stuff you could get a Marshal MG 10 CD. They're really small, have a great twangy clean sound, and have a real bluesy fuzzy distortion sound when you turn the tone knobs on your guitar down. They cost about 80 bucks but dont be fooled, they sound great and are real light and portable.

  • @Montefusco1 I had one. It sucked. Not twangy or bluesy, just crappy.

  • what amp do you use for the guitar?

  • i hate people with hofners -_- they can act like there paul mccarntey D:

  • @CorvetteStingray75 Hofners are quality basses.. what sense does it make to not get one just because Macca uses one?

  • @RevolverKat no sence really but obviously i DO know hofners are one of the best basses and i want to be a bassest/guitarest so u can say im jealous or envyous of people who have hofners because i know the value of a hofner and they actually got their hands on one

  • @CorvetteStingray75 Right.. if you want one so bad save some money and buy one. They come in three different models the Icon which is $200 then Contemporary (which I own) which is about $700 and the full fledged Hofners which are $2000+. By the way seeing how you want one.. would you hate yourself if you got one? Not making much sense bud.

  • @RevolverKat yea i know the prices but money is tigth rite now in this economy :/ and if i did owned one i wouldnt hate my self lol id spend every possible moment learning to play bass :D

  • @RevolverKat The Icon is not $200. The only one that I've seen for $200 wasn't in one piece.

  • OMG! A HOFNER :D

  • Anybody know his recording setup? What camera and audio setup is he using? Also, what video editing software to get the multiple views. I want to do something similar to what he is doing and all the recommendations I am getting from experts seems kind of complicated and expensive. My guess is that he is keeping it simple.

  • Wow, you do it all! Very Impressive...

  • i want to ask this like forever ...what is equipment ...i know ur amp its vox...the sound its too obvious....but whats ur fx...and ur guitar....an etc...thanks in advance btw...:)

  • I think you should mirror the bass video so it will be lefty haha

  • PLEASE MAKE THIS BUT IN LEAD GUITAR! =)

    ((ºJº))

    ...- eDDER

  • wow new Hofner bass, I'm waiting for your new video

  • where can i find accurate chords to this online?

  • @trackman235 look at my left hand

  • @mjsokes whats after Em at about :39 ?

  • @trackman235 looks like an open B7 to me.

  • @mjsokes lol

  • @TAPlastic lol look at my left hand very good I meant

  • @mjsokes hey in the beginning are you doing c5 to d5 or c to d

  • You new bass hofner! GReat!!!!!

  • i liked how you putted(?) the "1,2,3,4" from 12-Bar Original!

  • First class as always

  • @LEEUMSK8 Why must it be like Pauls?

  • FUNNEST.BEATLES.SONG.TO.PLAY.

  • MJ, if you've read the Recording Sessions book..... I'm figuring you are playing this stuff in less "takes" than the Beatles used, then again they would write and change a song as they went along. Good stuff mang. Any plans on scoring a Ricky 360-12? I'd like to hear/see you do some What You're Doing or If I Needed Someone.Keep keepin' bub!!!

  • Can you do a video on the rhythm parts of Till there was you or i me mine?

  • lets see rain

  • @trackman235 go outside, you might get lucky

  • @mjsokes haha no as in "Rain" the B-Side of Paperback writer

  • I see you bought the German control panel like i did :) very nice! also, what bass amp do you use? they have a used vox T-15 online for 60 bucks, its just a smaller version of what paul used. This video is why i gave up on competing with you :(

  • Bom video,.,, belo trabalho!! IoI

  • You really like this song don't you?

  • Sokes, I love you man this is legit

  • please do the lead guitar part as well and put them all in one video!

  • Sweet Hofner and Rick man, keep up the awesome videos!

  • @LEEUMSK8 nah i like it. remember i'm not paul mccartney...

  • Nice video man. Love the new Hofner. Any clues that you can release soon?

  • @MrHurrikanable i posted an update in the comments section of the channel, but it's not great news. i have to suspend the announcement indefinitely. it's just going super duper slowly, slower than i ever expected. i'm sorry i jumped the gun with the hints, but i'll keep working on ways to keep you guys happy...like new vids. anyway sorry sorry sorry...

  • @mjsokes Absolutely no problem man. Your videos are amazing and so is your skill. Keep doing what you do!

  • @mjsokes You don't have to apologize, man. We all love your work and thank you for giving a bit of your time to share your talent with all of us. Thank you, again.

  • @mjsokes So theres no big anouncment?

  • awe cool you got a hofner bass!

  • great as always! what kind of bass is it?

  • @4Ihavegot i mean model

  • @4Ihavegot : Looks like a Hofner Icon (Ignition now?) with teacups replacing the stock knobs.

  • @hofnericon hmm, I was thinking Contemporary because of the neck, and it looks like thats what the truss rod cover says

  • @4Ihavegot : Could very well be. My eyes aren't what they used to be!

  • @4Ihavegot Dude is your name supposed to be from "Another Girl"? That's fuckin awesome!!!

  • @Sweepingreaper4 yes it is, thanks ;)

  • Fantastic (of course) but you have to play George's part too!!!!!

  • you know what would be very very cool. to include lead guitar in there as well and just include the instruments

  • nice job on your first bass video mike!

  • very nice! wilmington mark

  • Nice video. Is the guitar track the same one you posted earlier without the bass? Otherwise, I'm going to have to assume you really like the Beatles and particularly this song.

  • @daregularperson yea same rhythm guitar part. i'm lazy.

  • I like the hofner. I just bought a rickenbacker 4001 myself and am waiting to get it so congrats.

  • Ah, finally got yourself a Hofner bass then?

  • love that rickenbacker

  • Nice !!
