  • 61 tone deaf individuals watched this.

  • Brawo ! Greetings from Poland.

  • Itzhak Perlman, perhaps the last of the true meaning of Virtuosos.

Klezmer is almost Gypsy isn't it

  • insane \m/ \m/ inspiring

  • ...Brave Old World is the name of the group at the start

  • Does anybody know the proper tuning for guitars when it comes to klezmer music? Or is it just a matter of playing in the right key, with the standard EADGBe tuning?

  • A lot of Romanian influence, but also from other eastern European traditional songs.

  • Trop fort

  • This 10+ minutes of joy originates from the PBS presentation “In the Fiddler’s House”. Doesn’t matter where the music stems from, if it makes you feel happy, that’s all that matters. If you find pleasure from it then you’ve spent a productive 10 minutes out of your life. BTW, I happen to adore Perlman and am a big fan of Klezmer music.

  • So sad, beautiful!

  • Lovely musical performance!

  • sounds lil bit like russian romance,or some east european music)

  • Aye it is. Klezmer is the gray area between Eastern European and Middle Eastern music.

  • thank you for the joyful sounds

  • improv?

  • @cello39mn yep

  • 100% moldavian song!

  • europe im proud

  • Did anyone else want to get up and dance?

  • His facial expressions made me smile the whole time. :-D

  • This is music Romanian of Moldova

  • Really musicans with blood and hair, I love it. Thx Michael

  • This is awesome.

  • Look at that big big nose!!!

  • @miashred

    look at your miniscule brain!!!

  • @yviva

    ahahaha LOL :)

  • @yviva Hahahaha!

  • am yisroel chai!

  • @nilinu

not if it means abusing another ethnic group...

  • Am Israel Hai

  • @GregoryyM

not if it means abusing another ethnic group.

  • Mr. Bungle brought me here.

  • simplemente wow!!!!!

  • brilliant and very romanian indeed :-)

  • "You'll find this sound all over southern and eastern Romania..." I agree

  • Sorry to disappoint you guys... This is not essentially Jewish... It's Romanian/ Moldavian doina. You'll find this sound all over southern and eastern Romania.

The second part starting at 1:50 is actually a rather old Oltenian folk song (a ballad).

  • @Kostagh you're correct. the first few pieces are romanian pieces played in a romanian style. from the point where it goes into black and white footage, it's all klezmer music until the part with the klezmatics.

On the other hand, I would propose that a romanian melody played completely in a klezmer style becomes a klezmer melody. If you discount all of those from being jewish music, there is very little left as jewish traditional music from that area was basically local stuff played jewishly!

  • @Kostagh In essence, we live in a small world; we are all brothers, and we all have a lot in common. Point: This music has SOUL!

  • wow 1:20. He totally goes FTW.

    Itzhak Perlman > you.

  • Very nice, love the different technique to play the violin, Perlman plays it with his classical formation, and the other guy plays with the violin stuck into his armpit, LOL at 1:24...great luxury these guys had having this master playing with them!

  • @TheSRalston it's funny though, if you watch him play this style, perlman is playing way more loose and sloppy than he would if he were playing the brahms with the berlin phil. still has all the chops and training and gorgeous tone, but he is able to leave some of the refinement at the door and just jam out with these guys.

  • Mazzeltof!

  • This makes me want to dance around and break stuff!

  • @quigonreturns That is so funny! Your killin me.

  • @quigonreturns eeh are you Greek? :-)

  • Ouah... la classe.

  • divin music

  • divin music

  • So... JEWISH

  • I always feel so "Jewish" , when I hear Itzhak Perlman ! Wonderful.

  • А мехае. Зайт гезунд, майн идн

  • awesome

  • This is Jewish Soul Music.

  • 53 violinists screech when they try to play like this.

  • @alika207

    or 53 nazis watched...

  • /watch?v=OPNcGKNcz_o

  • Itzak know when to stop and listen, :)

  • Great music inspired from Walachian Gypsies, Greek Rembetes and Balkan travelling musicians.

  • the best of all musics,no word can explain this great music.

  • This is a so great music, Itzhak Perlman in its best play, long live to Klezmer music !!

  • This is Romanian music, "doina" stolen by you. SHAME!

  • @BUCdsa0000

    Nobody stole nothing!

This is Ashkenazi Jewish music, influenced by all kinds of Eastern Europe's music, but mostly by the Romanian folk music. You should be proud to be part of such a great culture and people which has it's influence over various domains, including music.

And, by the way, this doesn't even sound like a "doina". No. Maybe like a "sarba" or "batuta", but deffinitely not "doina". Those were sad songs.

  • @SesyiDeniseia815 no i just want a fuzzy warbler

  • get in!! a good bit of klezmer for the soul!! these guys are great

  • vodka for all!

  • @amrosik

    manischewitz! haha...

  • great! , now i want to drink...

  • Kus! :)

  • Meh! If jason Becker was a violinist he's be Itzhak Perlman.

    Itzhak Perlman true virtuosity!

  • genious!

  • The only thing I hate about this post is you get bits and pieces of songs. No hate towards the poster. And of course get it on you Hebrews.

  • wheres the rest of the video?

  • I m an atheist... and as an professional historian, I have a sincere appreciation for jewish culture both from an anthropological and personal standpoint ....but this!! I want in! I'll convert! give me the Torah it will be worth it! LOL

  • @Keatelite Well atheist;apart from being "a pro.hysterian atheist ,WHY DONCHA LISTEN to the music and forget about religion? I think u might be an american....

  • @Keatelite

these people are probably not particularly religious. as someone who rejected the religion, i'd say read the torah first & then see if you want in. probably not. as a matter of fact, you'll probably be appalled. jewish culture is one thing, jewish religion, a bit different. there is a relationship, but it can be a pretty contentious one... about 50% of jews are non-believers these days, and only about 10% orthodox / ultra orthodox (i.e. very religious).

  • i have to admit the jewish to be virtuosos in commanding the fiddle !

  • This music makes me wanna fuckin' party.

  • the other violinist holds his instrument really weird 0_0 how the heck does he play like that?

  • I like it !!!!!

  • Nicht vergessen that Itzhak is awesome

  • ohhhh if a violin could speak, what tales would it tell!

  • This is great.

  • Klezmer rules!

does anyone know what's the name of the song that starts at 3:50?

    i want to play it

  • @suonatorente "Der Heyser Bulgar"

  • @schrinivas please let me make a correction: the piece at 3:50 is called 'sherele' , relatively easy on violin but Mr Perlman embellishes it in a way i could never do. You can find 'der heyser bulgar' sherele and other awesome songs on the 'in the fiddler's house' album, it's one of my favorites.

  • 8:02 is joy

  • Fantastic!

  • Thank you!

  • j'aime toutes ces musiques et ici en ISRAEL je ne les entends ps assez!!!

  • PLAY FOR THE ROMANIAN SOUL!!! a BASARBIA

  • that's the worst super hero disguise ever! you can tell he's philip seymore hoffman.

  • I love wasting my life watching and listening to Itzhak Perlman.

  • What is the name of beautiful thickhaired guy with accordeon?

  • @Arwen328 Howard Stern

  • MAGNIFICENT!!!!!!!

  • I would be curious what ir would sound like if Klezmer was mixed in with Zydeco?

  • @gronker2 .....that would be an interesting fuse...get the Klezmatics in the French

    Quarter for a few.

  • @gronker2 - zydepunks, sort of. lukemup

  • George Costanza on the violin

  • @randir14 not even worth comparing the quality of Perlman's art.

  • @constantinescule Your right, comparing music in terms what is better is not worth it.

  • i like this music very much!

could also be hungarian or balkan-sound, i don´t care, i like it, very much! it is a happy sound, this it what counts! EUROPA! our difference is our rich.....

  • If Chuck Norris were a violinist, he'd be Itzhak Perlman.

  • @jddemtp There is no better comparison.

I believe Chuck and Itzhak would approve.

  • @jddemtp That's a very good one! LOL

  • @jddemtp Just to even compare Perlman w/ Norris shows how little music one knows.

  • @jddemtp oh my gosh I totally agree with you.

  • @jddemtp I love that! What a great comment. :)

  • 8:11 this music is so alive

  • Perlman is very ggod but not the best...

  • @solonostico11 I should just slap you for that comment. OFCOURSE he is the best :P

  • Ой, вэй! Мазел тов! ЕвГеи, не жалейте заваГки!

  • a Perlman lo vi tocando anoche y está igual el viejo. .

pone los mismos gestos y toca con su mismo pañito

    xD

  • exceptionnel!!!!!

  • exceptonnel!!!!!

  • MASTERS!!!!!

    Mater piece + Sicodelia... uufffff....

    QUE GRAN MEZCLA!!!!

  • Great Music!

  • Haida & setz!

  • David Krakauer is so cool, love him!

  • Yakov, if you allow me, I think that the name of one of the bands is Brave Old World, not Brave New World. (Very cool name, too!) Thank you for the vid - great

  • God gave His people some very incredible abilities.

  • That and years of practice.

  • Why play one note when 20 will do the same job?

    ( I love it )

  • nice traditional music

  • Even though this is jiddish. This music sounds so Romanian is almost ridiculous. And I think, I heard the word Bassarbia?

  • A lot of "klezmer" music was played at weddings and other celebrations - and is akin to local sounds, whether in Rumania, Bulgaria, Bessarabia, Greece and so on... a big part of the sound was the instruments - violin, clarinet and accordion ... all portable....

  • Hello, sombody can tell me the 8:11min. song's name?

  • @Liuxxx1 Fisherlid (Fisherman's Song)

  • sounds a lot like gypsy balcanic music from rumania and hungary

  • I wish to be on this concert.

  • Reaaally goood!!!! Klezmer is a good feeling.

  • Maravilhoso! Muito obrigada yakovsmirnov55. Amo klezmer! Lembro-me dos meus avós, judeus-romenos da Bessarábia imigrados no Brasil (Wonderful! Thanks a lot yakovsmirnov55. I love klezmer! I remember my grand-parents jewishs from Romenia-Bessarabia imigrated in Brazil).

  • Comment removed

  • Wow - what a treat!

  • Bassarbia....

  • I am so touched by this music, I am not jewish, but music is universal. It is sooooo beautiful!!!!! I am completely addicted to jazz, so I really liked the jazzy improvisation dialogue part. I replayed it so many times lol. SUPERB! :-D

  • It's like a gypsy version of a jazz band, but much more interesting.

  • This is truly klezmer:)

  • Are the first 4 mns really an improvisation ???

  • I've always loved klezmer, and I've always loved Perlman. But, wow!, what a combo!!!

  • He is the greatest violinist in the world

  • @FiddlerAdam i think its mostly notes from the harmonic minor 5 scale

  • AHH THE BALKANS!! GOOD MUSIC IS UNIVERSAL MY FRIENDS, GREETINGS FROM GREECE. LIFE , LOVE, AND GOOD MUSIC TO YOU ALL

  • This abilility, this skillfullness just playing music in a team, never played together before is most admirable - really artists - more than that: musicians feeling and being their music. I love it, most of all: the variations of dance of delight

Great, great, great - true music!!!!!!!

  • This abilility, this skillfullness just playing music in a team, never played together before is most admirable - really artists - more than that: musicians feeling and being their music. I love it, most of all: the variations of dance of delight

  • this proves Flavius Josephus was correct and 'against Apion' were two great books, Jewish culture is a pure thing.

  • Gejb dejm Kleijzmer a pilln 9 mm in dejn nacckn, dos werd a nit vorgessn. do in vorbrenn in an hoifn. vorgim im a shuld als wie vergibst ihm a shuld als ist a kind.

  • My Dear!

Why these Jewish music are all flat but so joyful!

  • This is truly fun,I do envy, dearest Jewish friends!

  • Exelente.

    נהדר

    ברכות מ 'ילה

  • Good guys :-). I love Klezmer.

  • This video and music are for folks who want to FEEL and LEARN and learn to feel...who either have this in their ethnicity...or after a few minutes of listening to the squawky stuff discover that it is resonating with them...either in the music itself or the obvvious infection spreading among the musicians and observers as it is played, improvised upon and , as Perlman says, "pickled and peppered"..

You've already listened, so I am preaching to the choir.,

    Tom Loughlin Jr, Utica NY

  • Such fun music!

  • Spiel fiddler, spiel und lass uns alle tanzen und freulich sein !!

  • What a fascinating video! It's good to see Maestro Perlman kicking back and totally having fun.

  • What a pimp orchestra... this sort of skillful playing deserves more credit and a wider appreciation

it's better than anything made by christians (exluding blues artists)

  • amazing, thanks for posting Yakovsmirnov55 !

  • was Perlman improvising?

  • @leepakim indeed, he was.

  • I LOVE IT!! BEATIFUL!!!!

  • great video... but does anyone agree that perlman is kind of an asshole? he keeps stepping on peoples' toes during the improv sections

  • i guess you really have no clue how to read people at all... you don't see passion, joy and total immersion in this music. look at all the videos of itzhak and you'll see he is the most natural and humble musician out there... ready to play with kids, bands like this as much as with greatest orchestra. anyone who has ever met perlman will confirm his humbleness and nobility.

    @narekasadorian

  • @treemed67

nice paragraph. i didn't say he wasn't passionate, i said he was a douchebag for jumping on other peoples' phrases in a jam session.

  • @narekasadorian That "douchebag" business is a bit harsh, don't you think? Given a jam session where one or more players is out of his/her element, some jumping is bound to occur as the "new guy" tries to fit in with the ensemble.

  • @narekasadorian no, nobody agrees with you as you can see

  • oh fantastic!!!

  • Amazing!!!

  • This music reaches right down into my soul. Superb!

  • Superb! Thank you

  • Fantastico!!! Bellisima musica!!!..........I feel like getting up and dancing when I hear these tunes!!!.............What a great fusion of Klezmer melodies!!........And played wonderfully by the great Itzhak Perlman and fellow Klezmer bands!!!!

  • This video is so awesome. Do you know the name of the song that they're playing while the vintage wedding footage is being shown?

  • The best! I just love this session!!! :D
