So long as you realise that a K&N doesn't filter the air to anywhere near the standard of a paper element. Huge bits of dirt and dust damage the engine. The idea of a filter is to clean the air going in, not to restrict it in any way. A paper element has a surface area of 13ft, a K&N about 1ft-2ft, so the holes in the K&N have to be much bigger to pass more air as claimed. Companies are conning people by saying filters restrict airflow - they don't. They lie to sell their products!
nice sound! i have an alfa 156 1.6 Ts...can i put this kit, because the local tuners say that if i change the induction the engine will surely break down the lambda sensor...
@johnA7corsair You're best keeping the car as standard. Adding rubbish like this upsets the car, causes damage from big bits of dirt going in to the engine and slows the car down. Standard is best - take it on a rolling road. Paper filters pass more air than a car engine uses at full RPM. Car makers spend millions on research and design. K&N and others will use whatever clever sales talk and marketing tricks they can to aim at the boy racers - they make millions from people who know FA!
@urbex2007 have own many new cars with low restriction filters installed (k&n, apex ... and other renamed brands) for more than 50k miles, and believe me, no damage to the engine. Expect a real hp gain (+ 5 hp on a 2.0 engine) but for shure, a decrease of your average fuel consumption. True, dont buy cheap stuff, stay on k&n, hks, apex, greaddy and so on
man, i hope you changed that phase variator, it sounded terrible.
btw, you should have sticked with the filter box and removed the ressonator box, that way you can get the cold air from the grill next to the fog light ;)
you can buy a specific KN (or another brand) that sits inside the OEM filter box. That way you still get the sporty sound but with an actual increase in performance (due to the less restrictive filter and the colder air).
The ressonator is located right next to the filter box, under the left wheel arch. After removal you can see it lays 20 cm from the grill next to the fog light. That's were you can get the air to the filter box and get the ram air effect.
@ManchaSAJ What rubbish. A paper element passes more air than the car uses at full RPM. It does NOT restrict airflow, it provides filtered air. You have obviously been conned by technical talk which is untrue and know nothing about engines yourself. YOU are the type that companies aim for. Whatever they tell you, you believe without doing any research. Go and learn how filters work and how car engines work, fitting a K&N reduces performance and damages the engine due to huge bits of dirt.

The original filter which is very large cylinder type is more than adequate and also
along with air box and resonator box gives low down torque which is neccesary
on an italian twincam which has all its power above 3000rpm, if you like raspy
sound and little more power then replace cat with silenced de-cat...much better
mod for this type of engine with close ratio gear box...italian rasp very addictive

hi
are you saying he should have simply kept his plastic black standard box the original filter sits in?
also weres the resonator located?

Yes, that's the best thing to do.
you can buy a specific KN (or another brand) that sits inside the OEM filter box. That way you still get the sporty sound but with an actual increase in performance (due to the less restrictive filter and the colder air).
