I also ask you for suggestions to improve the cadenza. I played Mozart again with orchestra some days ago and made some experiments around it, but didn't find something that really works better for it. For example if I put a minor region (you can do it at the trill section) it gets just too long for my taste of proportion. Which cadenzas do you like?
I very much liked the piece although it was little too "romanticized" for me. I prefer the more straightforward approach with less "push and pull", seems to me would be more stylistic of the era to be more metronomical and less "expressive." Beautiful tone, keep it up :)
@PP1969GR my high school had a senior do this, and they too had a small accompaniment playing as well. I assume it is meant for only a few parts. probably because the full band would be very covering of the soloist. Also, it sounds much lighter and balanced with the few players here.
@PP1969GR There are many, many solo pieces for bassoon. Other composers in Carl Maria von Weber and Antonio Vivialdi, who wrote 20+ concerti for the bassoon. Compared to many other instruments, the bassoon is not very loud, so the accompanying orchestra can be smaller to balance.
Those who are not horn players will not understand the difficulties of accompanying this concerto. The fact that they're in Bb alto means they're sitting up high all the time. I imagine Mozart having a good laugh writing this...
Bravo to the soloist...wonderful singing tone. It's a pity he wasn't accompanied better; at least the orchestral playing was passable (a few ragged horns notwithstanding). I hope that your posting of this video will give Mr. Wayar the exposure he needs to boost his career and give the orchestra a reminder that it could be on YouTube at any time, so rehearse, rehearse, rehearse. Thanks for the upload.
The horn parts are written in High B flat pitch. The opening is pretty high, exposed and somewhat cruel for modern players.but in the second movement there are high Cs (written for horns in F).
Later on the horns are not only in balance, but fulfill their harmonic, rhythmic and melodic rôle better than at first.
The horns screwed up a little here and there... SO WHAT? If these critics can play it so much better, let them get up on the stage and do it, or STFU. Just enjoy some beautiful music.
@bckm54 stfu fool im basson player and im not THAT far away from him i guess 2 classes but nevertheless i dont like comments like these ... everybody is allowed to have an own opinion respect them dude . Maybe the people who dislike dont know anything about classic music but who cares...
This IS an orchestra for which the players are payed to play. The musicians work hard, they often have to do other jobs (not only musical jobs) to subsist. It does not have the level of good professional orchestras in an international standard, but I think it is a really good effort to make such a project possible in Bolivia.
@mauriwayar NEVER APOLOGIZE for choosing the best possible job - being a symphony musician! And you guys did a great job! To hell with the critics! :)
I think you are making an excellent effort. You are giving the very best quality. This is one of the very few bassoon pieces of Mozart competing with those performed by the best international artists. I am also reminded of my fellow student from your country where I studied forty years ago. Wishing you the very best in your effort. Keep it up.
This is clearly a community orchestra of some sort. Yes the horns messed up... oh well. Really nice work on behalf of the Bassoonist - a truly good effort!
Enhorabuena por el concieto. Pero para mi gusto las notas finales de cada frase las dejas muertas, se quedan super cortas. Y echar a las trompaaas! jejeje
THESE horns spoil THIS music, but in general, horns are one of the best musical instruments to ever be developed. The horns in this video are unbalanced and overpowering, but they do not bring down the instrument as a whole.
Thanks! yes, you're right... it could have been much better with other horns... but for my first Mozart with orchestra, I couldn't chose everything. It was a good experience, anyway!
Amazing tone and beautifully played. Well done, Mr. Wayar.

I have an old vinyl LP recording with Bernard Garfield playing this and the tempo sounds pretty much right on with what he does.

@pbj4toast: thanks :-) I also like the Garfield recording, it's perhaps the best of the old time bassoonists

@mauriwayar there is some youtube user called mrfagott (fagott = german word for basson ) i like his cadenze more ;=)
dahatmalindien 1 year ago
@dahatmalindien: Ich weiß, dass Fagott das deutsche Wort für "bassoon" ist... ;-)
Herr Fagott plays the cadenza of Milan Turcovic which is a really good one, you are right.
mauriwayar 7 months ago
A mi lo que me sorprende es que el solista toca de pie! Yo que sepa el fagot normalmente se toca sentado, no? Que valor!

Professional means you get paid to do it - not that you're incapable of screwing a part up. This is a "professional" orchestra.

I sometimes worry about the critics here. It was not the best day for the horns but I know they can play better
In some way I am sorry to have put this video so thay people can make arrogant critic here... I just wanted to share this with friends.
The bolivian symphony orch. is some sort of family for me, I've grown up in this orchestra and learned a lot with them.
I know they often can do better work, but this is the everyday life of a musician.
Anyway, thanks for the comments!
