A clear and logical explaination was given for spooling mono rather than braid line as fish need alot of playing and relatively loose drag. This has also convinced me that rear drag reel will my preferred choice over the front adjusting drag reel. 1st class customer service !!

@dclk8282 thats the cost im afraid.they wont send by a cheaper method because thats all regsitered and insured to make sure you get the product!its a shame the postage is how it is but its better to get the combo and be sure it will arrive than to be there worrying where it is!you can buy cheaper versions but they are NOT pen rod extremes and wont handle the fish that you see catching in my vids!

Am planning to go to a remote lake in Malaysia where there are 5 - 15 KG Toman and Barramundi then on to Nz for similar sized salmon so need rod to handle this.. wow looks like the Penn can do

@dclk8282 the rod can handle them. just take your time, dont bully the fish and play the fish well. dont exepct to be able to pull fish about like you do with a full size rod; but with time and care you should be able to land them.Practice on smaller stuff first to get the feell of them and see how they work and then just get bigger and bigger!I push them to extreme but i know they should be able to handle bigger than even this fish!

I'm going to order a pen rod extreme next week and challenge myself and try to catch what I call 'The Carp'. There's a carp (20lbs+!!!) in a small pond I fish at, but it's also bass and bluegill infested. Any tips on how to catch HUGE fish?
@jjfisher100 not really just keep trying! LOL! if you do hook a big one then play it wisely, keep your drag under control and dont try to bully the fish too much, with a Pen Rod you have to learn to tire the fish out before trying to land it!Good luck and dont forget to video anything you catch!
@GEEderMexikaner hmmm would depend on the weight used and whether you can hand line the fish in once its at the surface...the rods are very very fine at the tip and they wont handle the full weight of the fish being pulled up the side of the pier on their own; if you wre land level then i wouldnt hesitate to say "yeah give them a go" but lifting fish up a pier is not what they are designed for.

@TretheweyPewey contact the website and suggest your going to make a video. The CEO will contact you back and tell you what you need to do and how to do it. Its basically a case of creating a video, making sure you show the product and the website on it; upload to youtube and then send the link to the company!
thank for the info. but how would it hold up with the salt water cause i know salt water hit that stuff harder than freshwater so wont it rust up quick? im talking about the AA combo
@surferioz same as any reel or rod really...the rod is very well made and ive had mine for a number of years now with no rust to show for it. if you take care of the stuff and wash/clean it there is no reason it wont last like any other fishing stuff!
@surferioz its no beach caster; but it will certainly handle things like drop fishing off a pier for small wrasse and surface fishing for mullet etc etc
@TretheweyPewey 2lb line will handle a 7lb carp if your careful for sure! just take care and dont force it too much! and for carp, id try with bread or luncheon meat.

my only adive if your planning on Pen Rodding one of them suckesr is to go with 8lb line straight to hook. dont put any extra knots in your line that you dont have to! then mkake sure you got plenty of space to let that beast run!you dont have the power of a large rod to bring him into your net so you gotta give him room to wear himself down! dont be afraid to alter the "drag" throughout the fight and let your arm/rod/drag do all the work. good luck with it, and dont forget to video it!
rhis i think gives me some hope. planned a fishing trip for the full moon 30th in loh etive. never caught a fish before read alot abou tthe venue. and was feeling i never had the right gear. got a normal spining road and a normal real. but as its a sea loch and drops at 400ft in places. i was wondering if my gear would handle the fish. its mainly spurdog in etive. and info you can give me. gonna use patonosters with lug worm bait. 15lb main line.
@bobski1976 a tidal loch will be more like sea fishing than the still water lake this was caught on. you need heavier gear for the harsher enviroment. You need to be slinging a heavy weight to hold the bottom and as such your rod will be under alot of strain. best bet would be to to head to your local tackle shop that does sea fishing gear and ask them if you kit will get you by.

thats simply because i didn ttake my video camera on the day. the video footage you see in the film is taken on my mums small "point and shoot" and wse didnt want to fill the SD card with footage without being able to actually get ther whole fish etc in the bag...its ashame but there you go thats how it goes sometimes.
