Saw Joey Molland and Mike Gibbins several years ago playing as Badfinger. Both time they rocked! Whoever thinks he doesn't have talent is an idiot. Look at songs like "Love Is Easy" and "Island" form the album "Badfinger". "I'd Die Babe" from "Straight Up". "Got to Get Out Of Here" from "Wish You Were Here". And several songs from "Airwaves" and "Say no More". He may not have been a Pete Ham, but actually did more for Badfinger than Tom Evans or Mike Gibbins did!
@40yearsofStatusQuo1 Most of the criticism towards Joey was that he couldn't stand being 2nd fiddle to Pete....And it was he (and wife) that played a part in breaking up the band....Tom & Bob Jackson did their best to keep it going until Tom's unfortunate death.. That being said, Tom & Bob each did more for Badfinger than Joey.
@Benayrunyon I was there at that taping. Richard (the drummer) who I was dating at the time told me Merv was mad because Joey was so drunk. Their 2nd song was to have been, "Hold On." FYI, ." The, Say No More" LP is now on CD through Amazon. CHEERS!
@CSICyn That's a shame as I love "Hold On". Though I wasn't there, Joey seems to be behaving himself, having some good rockin' fun. Imagine if Amy Winehouse had been on Merv. ;-)
At this point Tom and Joey remind me of the Everly Bros ....a couple of years ago now at a HippieFest I almost got to talk to Joey !!!...I would love to get a chance to do that sometime have a lot of questions ...about guitars and stuff ...
I was at The Merv Griffin Show when they did that song! My for former beau, (still dear, close friend,) Richard Bryans was the drummer! Ahhh, memories. Thanks for posting this video! CHEERS!
The piano player is Tony Kaye. He was the original keyboard player in Yes. He later went to the band Flash and then was in the band Detective.

I would love to know what Joey said to make Merv Griffin mad. He wouldn't let them sing a second song.

In listening its obvious in 1980-85 a ' boogie' from a rock band wasnt going to be a hit!
