Hahah an ice cream and donuts!!! So cute!! I would have said that too if I was asked the same question at that age! and 1:58 "ithanethu" demo sa was really funny too LOL!! I wonder how you did it without waking her up! And you avoided the question in a very smart way too! Wow she's quite a girl for her age..bilingual and everything..I used to be very pessimistic about daughters but after watching Nina's videos, I am very convinced daughters can be very sweet and loveable too!
smart kid tbh it's a good investment: put teeth under pillow, fairy brings in money, buy candy with the money, eat candy, your new tooth is ready to be placed under the pillow from there on just rinse and repeat lol
Damn she is smart!! I was so gullible as a kid that after watching the movie Toy Story I thought my toys really did came to life when I wasn't around xD loool
Actually, the tooth fairy is me, Nina darling. i converted Rupiahs into Dollars so U can suspect your dad as the fairy. i always wanted to be your fairy Nina.... XOXO
Nina's guess as to what happens to all of the teeth the tooth fairy collects made me laugh out loud. And I love the way she asked you if maybe your American paper money "ちょこっと少なくなった?" So coy! I didn't hear about the tooth fairy until one of my friends from school told me about it, but by then I was a little too old (though my friend seemed to believe in it).
What a smart girl. <3 This is too cute! Look on the bright side... at least you know you won't be dealing with extreme disappointment when she finds out the truth.
I mean... what? The tooth fairy exists! Just in case Nina's reading... sending her love from myself and the Tooth Fairy here in America! ;D
nina has gotten so big! =) i remember i first watched a video of nina when she played guessing games at the dinner table with you all, and that was so long ago. she's so adorable =)
My goodnes, she's smart!! What's going on with kids these days? You cannot lie to them! Even these things, that are magic stories for them to enjoy... No, not even that!! But I love Suspicious Nina!
@geofg you are already giving her a magical childhood, with or without the tooth fairy :-D i think all of us who watch your videos of nina will agree :-D
@ulan25 Thanks! I like that. And, I agree there is plenty of magic just in everyday stuff like watching lightning storms, growing an avocado tree from a seed, taking a walk in the local woods and making slime.
I think what you said was appropriate. You didn't flat out say, "no it wasn't me" you let her think about it and decide for herself. But part of the fun of being a kid is believing in magic, or at least pretending you believe. @HannahInJapana Thanks for telling me about your new channel. I watched some of your videos of life with Ellie, and they brought back a lot of memories. Keep it up, and hang in there! It gets easier and easier!
@geofg Thanks so much for watching. I bet you miss those times when Nina was a baby, but she looks like a lot of fun now too. Yeah being a housewife in a foreign country and a new mom can be hard but also rewarding.
wow..nina you are awesome..looks like she have a talent to become an detective..i think that you never think about nina will became very suspicious about the american money..hahaha..
@MsFesty ha ha Well, we watched a video from a friend in the U.S. showing his son getting two dollars for a tooth, so I thought I... I mean the tooth fairy... should try the same thing.
If I got caught like this, I would just tell her the truth lol. Nina is VERY smart. Most kids wouldn't even ask, let alone analyse what might have happened! My favourite part is when she started asking you if you had American money and whether you had a bit less lol. VERY, VERY impressive! Btw, congratulations on losing your first tooth, little Nina!
she must have known that you're the one who put the money below the pillow, but she's just a lil bit unsure. so she's just say okay to make you happy lol
lol, the tooth fairy gave american money to a kid in Japan!!! that means the tooth fairy is American! hahahahaha!why didn't you gave her Japanese money?
I wonder what's feel like having a very beautiful intelligent daughter, that you always made a movie or her. it'll always be such a precious movie ever :) I love it, really. thanx for sharing with us.
I have to say, Nina is very inquisitive! Do you guys also follow the tradition of leaving out cookies and milk for Santa Clause? Though, that might arouse the suspicion of why Santa Clause is able to stomach that many cookies... I think you should lay it low for now, now that Nina is questioning the tooth fairy. At that point that's when I decided to trick the tooth fairy. Good luck! ^_^
@BeNiceToAnime ha ha Yeah, Nina has dropped the subject for now, but I wonder if she will start drilling me again when the next tooth comes out. I better prepare my answers.
@tissnadi Yes, we got Nina a new "big girl's bed" over a year ago. And, in Japan also, they throw the bottom teeth into the air so the bottom teeth will grow in.
In my country, there is no tooth fairy. Instead, we have "la petite souris" (the little mouse), who does pretty much the same job : exchanging the teeth for some money.
when she is old enough to read all these comments and watch all these videos in the future it just makes me smile thinking about it =) ahhhh the wonders of technology.
I was wondering the whole time: Why American money? Haha.. Maybe because it's the "American" tooth fairy? But this reminded me of when I was younger and my friends and I were discussing whether things like Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy were real... We all decided we should put up hidden security cameras to know for sure.... (of course that never happened though-seeing as we were in 3rd grade and everything)
Nina is so smart! :) I really love all the videos you made. What kind of camcorder and editing software do you use? I want to learn to make some nicer quality videos for my son too. So far I suck :'( your videos are really sweet!!!
Hahaha, she's too clever to fool! I was much easier to trick into believing in the most absurd things, like the giant chimneys of factories being cloud machines or brown cows giving cocoa- and the tooth fairy, too. I was mighty impressed when I found my first money and started to wiggle my second loose tooth for three hours straight until it would come out. My parents had to tell me the fairy would be unhappy if I deliberately lost all my teeth to make me stop. I guess Nina is also less greedy..
@MilkySorbet I like the idea of factories being cloud machines! And, Nina has been checking her teeth daily to see if any others are loose as well. I may have to use your explanation that the tooth fairy won't accept teeth that are pulled out deliberately.
Nice to see that Nina still has her appetite! :D When asked what she would buy with the money, she said ice cream and donuts. Haha. She is a curious but clever girl. Does she still believe in Santa by the way?
My dad was never clear on this thing. I defenetely knew it was him, since his terrible rendition of Santa and a story about candies growing from the branches of a large plant we had, and he knew I knew but I think we mutually decided to keep the truth in the fog, so the tooth mouse (here is a rodent who does the job not a fairy), kept coming until my mouth was empty and my bank account big :)
I think you managed Nina's questions pretty well so far!
However, as to the answer... you needlessly complicated the situation by leaving U.S.D. All fairy tales need to be as simple as possible, in order to make them less easy to debunk.
I like the version from Terry Pratchett. The tooth fairy's castle is made from teeth. The teeth collected to protect humans from being magically controlled. The money left because there must be a fair exchange. You live in a country where they toss the lower teeth beneath the house and the upper teeth onto the roof in order to make the adult teeth come in good and strong. Or have I got that backwards?
hahaha, I love how Nina's curiosity rose and asked if you were missing 2$, she's a very smart little girl! I thought the tooth fairy was everywhere? What do Japanese parents do when their child looses a tooth? There's no fun without the tooth fairy...!
The curiosity in this video is great! I have the same problem as you, being a japanese student i am too young to have ids but i am not sure i will even celebrtate christmas when i have kids, i would rather have a family day then a majical man with beard day however it seems harsh to take away the majic. Great video! Seeing children challenge what they are presented with through logic is wonderfull! ^_^
@shutuplistentoArnie I felt that way when I was younger, too, never really cared about Christmas or other holidays that just seemed like retail opportunities, but when I became a father Nina's enthusiasm for play and fantasy infected me, and I realized that I want her to enjoy her play life for as long as she can.
she's too smart...figuring out Papa has american money...and she got american money...hmm I like the idea of planting the seed of the myth adn magic but letting her figure it out and wonder on her own...Good on Papa!
im having a face mask on when im watching this, and i couldn't help to laugh at the dollar bill. and the mask crack. hahahaha... I thought you'd put japanese coins.
it's because there isn't a tooth fairy story in japan. she would have been more willing to believe it if other kids from her school believed in it too.
@ydoiwatchthese Yeah, I tried explaining that the tooth fairy made a special trip over here for Nina because she's half American, but you're right, I think the idea that a tooth fairy would only visit kids from certain countries doesn't sit well with Nina.
@geofg when i learned that other country's had different ideas of santa is when i realized santa wasn't real. because not all countries had a santa, and the ones that did all had different looks or traditions. and that just seemed odd to me. plus nina is really smart. she has great deductive and reasoning skills, so that makes it even harder for her to grasp it. most kids would go with it, but she could tell something was fishy XD
Sorry Geofg, can i ask you?? How you can teach her both language?? Can you show me, my baby will born 2 more months ..... I hope you can answer me , i'm vietnamese & my wife is francais, that's difficult to teach both language :) Show me the way please
@AnthonyGuen If you always speak Vietnamese with your baby, and your wife uses French, your baby should be able to understand both languages at least. And, congratulations! I hope you have a healthy baby soon!
Oh my gosh Nina is so smart. lol I laughed so much when she asked if you had less money. So so clever.
Not like me, I only realized the "truth" of the toothfairy when my tooth was still in it's dixiecup in the bathroom (what we did rather than put it under the pillow) for two days. I looked in the cup the 2nd day when my dad was shaving, he saw my sad face and said "OH, you lost a tooth!? I didn't know that". The next day, rather than the usual dollar for my tooth, was $5 dollars. I knew then.
@geofg Yea. I think it was started with my eldest brother. He didn't want the toothfairy coming in his room so he put the tooth in a cup in the bathroom.
@geofg you and I are the same age. My father (a great dad) died when I was 11. The thing I want to say is that I realize the reason why I like this channel so much is of course nina but also you. The way you are with nina is exactly like my dad was with me. My mother a few years back gave me a illustrated journal he kept of us (christmas, sledding, ect) that I guess could be considered the poor mans YouTube. Hell...you even look exactly like him.
"yaaay two money :DDD" LOL! Aww Nina's first tooth fell :D I hope it wasn't a painful one heh. I remember my dad always enjoyed plucking my teeth off lol! The whole video cracked me up XD, but especially when she said "maybe put it in her mouth" LOL!! God bless her :D I wish her a healthy teeth always~
You have brought her up in such a way that she now skillfully deducts and reason about these things with a very aware mind and down to earth logic. She is great!
I believed in the tooth fairy until sometime in mid-elementary school. I was never mad at my parents for telling me that she really existed :) It was a fun memory during a time when my imagination had more power than reality :) I'd tell her exactly the same as you told her :) She's very smart to be suspicious, though!! :D
i read many interesting comments here... well, if i were you i will lie about the story at the moment. as the time goes by, she will find out by her self from friends and age factor. i never told by my parent about such story. poor me. lol anyway.. she is so critical.
so what do you guys think why the fairy leaves money for teeth?
As she seems to be onto you, I think it would be best to let it on slowly. I don't think you need to worry about a lack of imagination in Nina!! But actually saying it was Duffy might be best!! Then she knows it's just for fun as it were. But she's an excellent skeptic. :)
I guess the best thing in my opinion is to keep it ambiguous. Like you could present these things to Nina so she knows the cultural elements of them. If she asks you if they are real, maybe say that either there are a lot of things that people don't fully know or understand yet or "let's find out together". This encourages both positive skepticism and nurtures imagination.
Just my opinion, not trying to be bossy or anything. :)
I see nothing wrong with telling her it was the tooth fairy when it was really you. It's not like she is going to become distraught or conflicted later in life when she finds out the truth.
Its all for fun and its a lil bit exciting when your young. Just like Santa Claus, easter bunny, etc.

@Yakerina Yeah, I just thought she might wonder why the tooth fairy left Japanese money, when none of her friends get money for their teeth.
geofg 8 months ago
I like the version from Terry Pratchett. The tooth fairy's castle is made from teeth. The teeth collected to protect humans from being magically controlled. The money left because there must be a fair exchange. You live in a country where they toss the lower teeth beneath the house and the upper teeth onto the roof in order to make the adult teeth come in good and strong. Or have I got that backwards?
Yakerina 8 months ago
@Yakerina Interesting. I'll have to look for that.

and man, for her age she is so clever ^^
qendu 8 months ago
hahaha, I love how Nina's curiosity rose and asked if you were missing 2$, she's a very smart little girl! I thought the tooth fairy was everywhere? What do Japanese parents do when their child looses a tooth? There's no fun without the tooth fairy...!
krispix79 8 months ago
@krispix79 In Japan, they throw bottom teeth up on the roof, so the new tooth will grow in straight.
geofg 8 months ago
The curiosity in this video is great! I have the same problem as you, being a japanese student i am too young to have ids but i am not sure i will even celebrtate christmas when i have kids, i would rather have a family day then a majical man with beard day however it seems harsh to take away the majic. Great video! Seeing children challenge what they are presented with through logic is wonderfull! ^_^
shutuplistentoArnie 8 months ago
@shutuplistentoArnie I felt that way when I was younger, too, never really cared about Christmas or other holidays that just seemed like retail opportunities, but when I became a father Nina's enthusiasm for play and fantasy infected me, and I realized that I want her to enjoy her play life for as long as she can.
geofg 8 months ago
lol i liked how she asked if you happen to be just two dollars short :P she's so smart
I remember when I had asked for handwriting from my parents because I was suspicious that my parents happen to have the same handwriting as santa.

haha... "why do you think daddy did it?" because the tooth fairy give her DOLLARS ?!...
kemushichan 8 months ago
it's because there isn't a tooth fairy story in japan. she would have been more willing to believe it if other kids from her school believed in it too.
ydoiwatchthese 8 months ago
@ydoiwatchthese Yeah, I tried explaining that the tooth fairy made a special trip over here for Nina because she's half American, but you're right, I think the idea that a tooth fairy would only visit kids from certain countries doesn't sit well with Nina.
geofg 8 months ago 10

AnthonyGuen 8 months ago
@AnthonyGuen If you always speak Vietnamese with your baby, and your wife uses French, your baby should be able to understand both languages at least. And, congratulations! I hope you have a healthy baby soon!

@geofg Thank you so much, i hope your family will always happy ;)

Oh my gosh Nina is so smart. lol I laughed so much when she asked if you had less money. So so clever.
Not like me, I only realized the "truth" of the toothfairy when my tooth was still in it's dixiecup in the bathroom (what we did rather than put it under the pillow) for two days. I looked in the cup the 2nd day when my dad was shaving, he saw my sad face and said "OH, you lost a tooth!? I didn't know that". The next day, rather than the usual dollar for my tooth, was $5 dollars. I knew then.
JJNeepinFilms 8 months ago
@JJNeepinFilms That's the first I've heard of the put it in a dixie cup method. I would probably forget, too.
geofg 8 months ago
@geofg Yea. I think it was started with my eldest brother. He didn't want the toothfairy coming in his room so he put the tooth in a cup in the bathroom.

I thank you and your family for all these feelings and memorys everytime I watch your videos.
bizelivin 8 months ago
@geofg you and I are the same age. My father (a great dad) died when I was 11. The thing I want to say is that I realize the reason why I like this channel so much is of course nina but also you. The way you are with nina is exactly like my dad was with me. My mother a few years back gave me a illustrated journal he kept of us (christmas, sledding, ect) that I guess could be considered the poor mans YouTube. Hell...you even look exactly like him.
bizelivin 8 months ago
@bizelivin Wow, thanks! I'm sorry you lost your father at such a young age, but it's nice you have his journal to help keep his memory alive.

Thank you for sharing this with us all.

i read many interesting comments here... well, if i were you i will lie about the story at the moment. as the time goes by, she will find out by her self from friends and age factor. i never told by my parent about such story. poor me. lol anyway.. she is so critical.
so what do you guys think why the fairy leaves money for teeth?
itsmecitra14 8 months ago
@itsmecitra14 I don't know where the leave money for teeth idea came from. I guess I should check it out on Wikipedia.

As she seems to be onto you, I think it would be best to let it on slowly. I don't think you need to worry about a lack of imagination in Nina!! But actually saying it was Duffy might be best!! Then she knows it's just for fun as it were. But she's an excellent skeptic. :)

nicholastan91 8 months ago
There's no fooling Nina, is there? ;) A nice way of learning the conditional if by the way :)
trulycassia 8 months ago
I guess the best thing in my opinion is to keep it ambiguous. Like you could present these things to Nina so she knows the cultural elements of them. If she asks you if they are real, maybe say that either there are a lot of things that people don't fully know or understand yet or "let's find out together". This encourages both positive skepticism and nurtures imagination.
Just my opinion, not trying to be bossy or anything. :)
ladypyramidhead 8 months ago
@ladypyramidhead Yeah, I like that idea. Let Nina decide for herself.
geofg 8 months ago
I see nothing wrong with telling her it was the tooth fairy when it was really you. It's not like she is going to become distraught or conflicted later in life when she finds out the truth.
Its all for fun and its a lil bit exciting when your young. Just like Santa Claus, easter bunny, etc.
