Can't put special teams or kickers in the HOF? Why not? If they excel at their positions and every team needs them for what they do. Everyone can blame them though for missing field goals during Superbowls and Conference champions. Just ask Scott Norwood and now Billy Cundiff. Even when they come through there will still be players and fans who marginalize their efforts in the long run.
he makes a good point in not voting in special teamers because they dont play every down, but when a really exceptional player comes around (tasker, guy, hester, vinatieri maybe) it makes it seem like the opposition has to deal with more than the regular offense and defense. that being said i get the point behind not voting every special teamer in the HOF, but when someone special comes around, you gotta reward them for what they are able to do on the field.
@MrJmb2. Holy shit, I was thinking about Mark Pike the entire time I was watching this vid. I don't know if he was better at the kick/punt coverage and whatnot, but when it came to blocking for the returner on kickoffs there was no one EVER better than he. only 1 in 200 people know his name, but the guy was a beast. He just destroyed people with his blocks, I always thought they should've used him as a fullback, because he sorta failed at DE/LB.
The greatest special teamer of all time, that wasn't a kick/punt returner is Larry Izzo. He played for the dolphins, jets and patriots basically as a special teamer "backup LB", his whole career. He made 3 pro bowls and 3 all pros, not to mention 3 super bowls with 4 superbowl appereances. He was consistently special teams captain, almost every year lead the league in ST tackles. Guess what else, he has more ST tackles all time than Steve Tasker..In 14 seasons Izzo was never on a losing team
@nardo363636 Steve Tasker was a gunner and a kick blocker along with being on the hands team. I wonder how many blocked kicks, forced fumbles, and TDs Izzo has.
Steve Davis was one of those nerds who liked to criticize the jocks that kicked his ass and slept with the girl he had pictures all over his wall. He could never start on defense, offense and special teams. He was the jock washer.
It's just plain prejudice to not put Tasker in because he's Special Teams, and some pretentious douche bags say that isn't as important as offence or D. For God sake the guy never fucked up any of the downs he played on Spec. Teams. Rate players on what they did when they were given the opportunity. Steve Tasker, The Greatest Spec. Teams player ever, made unbelievable plays in every opportunity he got. He was one of the best players in The Bills during the 90's. 1st ballot. Nuff said
I get that they shouldn't be voting in special teams players every year but they at least have to vote in the best special teams players of all time. Steve Tasker should be in there and Vinatieri when he's done.
@Tony52308 I completely agree, Honestly, its surprising to me to see that special teams is an overlooked category. Special teams can change the game, and it has so many times in the past. I also agree that yes, you shouldn't be voting for every "special teams player", but if you want a hall of fame special teamer; pick Steve Tasker
@ForgiveTremor And meanwhile, most of the guys saying he SHOULD be in the hall of fame WERE former players...boy, isn't that weird? Sports writers are truly some of the most useless people on the planet.

"You have to play the game totally...[otherwise] you're spitting on the face of Dick Butkus"
Dick Butkus didn't play offense.
VERY few players play in all 3 phases of the game. No one plays the game totally anymore.

Howard Balzar is a moron, if you go by that logic then NO ONE SHOULD BE IN THE HOF.
Because a QB only plays OFFENSE, he doesn't play EVERY DOWN, a DE plays only DEFENSE not every down.
They are not like a PG in basketball that plays O and D, or a 1st Basemen that plays O and D.
So if we go by that logic then no one deserves to be in the NFL HOF WITH THAT BS I VOTE FOR EVERY DOWN PLAYER WHATEVER THAT MEANS.

Hey Howie, how many downs did you play in the NFL? Zero? Hmm, I think Tasker has more than you ever will.
