Great memories!...... Lee Oskar playing Harmonica and Greg Errico sitting in w/Mickey Hart on Drums.....not sure if this is the NYE Winterland Show? Always had a good time hanging and jamming with this group of people!
This is a great video! The GD were the most amazing live band ever! John C was an incredible, largely unrecognized talent. This recording is a treasure!
4:57 when mickey hart is looking at jerry killing it then he starts hitting drums harder that is my favourite moment.. this is so great great, thanks alot..
I guess I must be missing something, but I found this to be one of the most satisfying videos of the GD on YT. Jerry was definiitely all over this arrangement. If there could be any complaint I'd say not enough screen time w/Jerry. John C and the harp players were in my mind terrific....Thanks Unviciouscircle ....I just saw "The Road" video with Viggo G. and now I got something mindless to rock to Yeah Chuck Berry the Dead and John C. .... Reelin & Rockin' ....Thanks!!!!
I feel compelled to comment negatively as this, to me, represents the WORST of the Grateful Dead in one handy package.
This is totally lacking in energy - with Donna G wailing (and screaming) tunelessly as she was wont to do sadly.
I always thought that cocaine engendered a certain 'energy' but THIS is so flat and plodding, it's hard to think that it's the same band as 1972. And they were off their tits big time...
@sleakitweasel ..no argument 'bout the Coke issue ..take it you saw the Dead many times in '72 then to make such a comparison..never saw them myself but saw Mr Cip a few times ...guess that makes me a lucky Brit.....
@sleakitweasel this is some of the most psychedelically charged full on smoking blown out grooving GD i've seen on yt….gotta get past the wails or whatever…..guess there's a thin line between "flat/plodding" vs. a stage full of people able to play in total high octane synchronicity…..with all due respect, Garcia's smile at the end of that jam kinda attests to the blast this show musta been. This is the real deal.
Like this & everytime I saw Cipollina play w/ The Dead they sounded great & always seemed to have a real good time.
Now thanks to You I get to see it again
& those that wern't around can see the great sounds & fun & way it was once upon a time in the West. The real QMS (pre-Dino) & The Quick & The Dead shows was as good as it got for me.
Those were the days, to bad all good things must pass but that is life. Just glad to have been in the Bay Area as it has always been a magnet for real music.

@sleakitweasel Yeah they are a little too blunt here. Too decadent of a night here.

Music was real back then, not like today's music.
