  • have seen this movie about 7464 times. it's so sweet and the cast is amazing. love it.

  • Thumbs up if Harry Styles brought you here! Harry: "Have you seen Wind in the Willows?" Niall: *nods head* Harry: "So good!"

  • i love it when rat says what under earth

  • i didnt know they made a realistic version of this,so its my first time seeing it.

sounds like it could be interesting

  • It's hard for me to imagine Steve Coogan as little.

  • Even if he's not in it that much, i still absolutely love Keith Lee castle as Clarence Weasel, true class.

  • Can you rename the title to "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride"?

  • A trailer for this film was on the video I had for 'James and the Giant Peach' when I was young. Even then, I recognized a lot of the names and knew I should watch it some time. Only taken me 15 years or so! On to part 2...

  • This version is my second favourite! After the Cosgrove Hall one.

  • <3 my childhood

  • Absloutely adored this film when I was a kid. Couldn't get enough of the music. Always loved the characters and Mr Toads Song. To be honest, most of the other adaptions I have either never watched or just bored me. I have never read the book properly either!

I hate how they named in Mr Toad's Wild Ride in America. The Wind in the Wilows suits it. Luckily I have the original Pathe released British version with The Wind in the Willows as the title.

  • This is the film of my childhood, it's absolutely adorable. The nostalgia right now is so intense!

  • Jones looks like Goldfinger here.

  • Thankytou very much for this brings back childhood memories, fromn when i was ill and used to watch this:)xxx

  • I used to watch this as a kid all the time, it is one of my absoulute faviourite movies ever, i have spent the last hour online trying to find it and then found this.

  • @robb1nbanks me too

  • I really like the "gijinka" style they took with the characters, but I'm not so sure about the random moments of "faces on inanimate objects". O_o

  • IT'S A BORING MOVIE AND THE ACTORS ARE TRASHY

  • "My young friend's just lost his home."

    "What a stroke of luck!"

    How tactless can you get?

  • "I've never been in a boat before."

    "What?"

  • I can't believe they actually changed the title to "Mr Toad's Wild Ride" (was this only in the USA?). It's an adaption of a classic story and it should be named after the damn classic story, not a silly theme park ride. This is my favourite adaption of the book too.

  • @MinMinSora In England its called Wind in the Willows,so i guess its just in America that the title was changed.

  • @MinMinSora In England its called Wind in the Willows,so i guess its just in America that the title was changed.

  • Uhm, this is nothing like the book. That doesn't help me... I need to study it... WTF? The book is bad enough!

  • @cooljoemaz WHOO HOO!!!

  • Cor blimey thats a fabbylisios cast. Steve Coogan, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, JOHN CLEESE!

I need to see this film...

  • They said on The One Show this evening that Ratty isn't actually a rat at all - he's a water vole.

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz Voles are also called water rats. He is called "the water rat" in the book.

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz I know I watched it

  • Michael <3

  • OMG ... What The Hell, Weird Movie!!!!

  • This was the first film I got on DVD and Ive still got it in perfect condition.

  • Mind the varnish!

  • This film is called "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride"

  • @LooneyTunerIan In America is called "Mr Toads wild Ride" In England its called "The Wind in the willows"

  • 9:24-9:26

OMG, i just got a lump in my throat, soooooo cuuute

    9:28-9:30

you're so fucked Toad, you just made Eric Idle very mad

  • i wish that place existed

with Eric Idle as a Rat, Terry Jones as a (very bad driver-)toad, Billy Connolly as one handsome Weasel etc.

kind of sad that Michael Palin has a rather short part of the cast

  • Im 13.. AND I LOVE THIS MOVIE! :D

  • I used to watch this movie all the time as a child!

  • I saw the play in New Alm

  • @659ftw He also speaks about 'messing about on the river'.

  • Tea time!

  • Thank you very much for posting this movie. I saw a part of it a few days ago and I loved it. I've finally bought the book yesterday, I've been looking for it for a long time because I really wanted to read it. I'm from Belgium and I never had much of a chance to read English children's literature such as The Wind in the Willows, The Wizard of Oz, The Secret Garden, Alice in Wonderland etc. and I hope to make it all up now ^_^

  • 6:38 Man Rat is really deep.

  • amazing completely like the book

  • i really dont know why, but when i was younger I used to have a crush on mr mole :S. i was a weird kid

  • @evershield Well, why not? That's Steve Coogan.

  • @mmr11027 and then as i got older, i saw around the world in 80 days and had a crush on the guy filias fog, i finally realized they were the same actor :S soooooo strange i have this permanent attraction to steve coogan :s

  • @evershield Thanks for reminding me of that film as well. I just added it to my Netflix. He's one of my favorite actors. You might like Hamlet 2 and Tropic Thunder. He's very funny in those films as well.

  • god I've searched EVERYWHERE to find this movie and now it's on youtube *-*

thanks a lot! =) I lost the old video of mine and I've been looking for this since I'm 11 years or something

  • I love you for uploading this.

  • So many memories!

  • Why is this movie regarded as bad? It's actually very enjoyable.

  • ive just watched the 2007 version of wind in the willows, its worth a watch but it does not go into such depth like this one. Also the characters in this are way better, but matt lucus is a brilliant toad.

  • I grew up with the Cosgrove hall adaption of Willows. This looks interesting though, I'm going to give it a watch!

  • @cooljoemaz,

All the living, British pythons are in it - Terry Jones, Eric Idle, John Cleese and Michael Palin. A top film, this is, memories of my childhood.

  • @Scruffy193 Terry Gilliam's a living python

  • @Scruffy193 Terry Gilliam is alive. He was asked to voice the river (which makes me wonder if the river was meant to have more dialogue, like the sun), but had other acting commitments.

  • @verkaforever,

I'm aware he's alive... my comment alluded to the British-born Pythons, of which Gilliam is a American-turned British citizen. But oh well, a living Python is a living Python, regardless of where and whom.

  • @Scruffy193 Sorry, I misunderstood your comment. I'll be honest, I'm not a huge Monty Python fan, but I love the Wind in The Willows- it was one of the first stories I ever remember listening to on cassette, and they go well together.

  • Comment removed

  • @RepIayMediaCatcher he says wide world

  • Comment removed

  • @RepIayMediaCatcher yeah the human world.

  • @TheLloydA1

Hes right, we shudnt ever refer to it again

  • What the hell!? How can water talk!!?? HOW CAN THE SUN TALK!!!???

Other than that, this film isn't that bad.

  • @Lazyboy5298 how can a toad drive a car and own a mansion, how can weeseles opperate demolition gear.

Cause, sht happens in the non fiction world.

  • @boffgirl I've seen weasels operate demolition equipment!

  • Terry Jones is perrrfect. Love him.

  • i watched this when i was 6 years old haha long time ago didnt know it was disney who made it though lol

  • moments where I LOLed:

    5:20 WHISKERS!!!!

6:32 The water scared me for a second

8:32 HE'S GREEN AND HAS NO EYEBROWS!!! How is that NOT funny????

8:57 RAT HAS A TAIL!!!!! OMG XD XD XD XD!!!!!!

  • Yay! All that's missing is Terry G and Gray. Happy birthday Gray!!! And thank you for uploading this. I used to watch the OLD cartoon one, not the disney one, when I was still in diapers. Love this movie

  • I had never even heard of this film before today. Nostalgia Critic placed the weasels song #2 in a list of villain songs. He said the movie wasn't all that great, but I hardly ever trust criticism about things til I know something of them myself, especially when it comes to Disney.

So I decided to give this film a shot and watch it. :)

  • Wed all be alot happier if we actually could live free like these folks do. When the child dies completely, we will mourn for it.

  • I haven't seen this film for about ten or so years and I STILL have to skip the part where the weasels destroy Mole's home. I have so many memories of crying my eyes out whenever I'd see those few minutes that I can't bare to watch it again. Funny how little childhood quirks like that stay with you. 4 out of the 5 remaining Pythons were in this film- no wonder it's so fantastic XD

  • aww weasles kidnapping rabbits hehe

  • see!!!! the british can make fantastic films tooo!!! and the emericans think we cant just because they have hollywood!!! ha! btw ive nothing against the americans i think u guys are cool!!

  • ive had a huge crush on the weasles ever since i saw this film...apart from the cheif weasle

  • I remember i watched this when i was little

it still as awesome as beforeee

  • @cooljoemaz Yes, Terry Jones. My point exactly ;)

  • try watchin this really really baked.

  • @cooljoemaz They co-wrote the story/screenplay together! That's why! ^^

  • what's the song at the beginning? ;o

  • poor mole, he's lucky to have a friend like rat

  • aw, poor mole. I never watched or read this book before, but so far this seems really good, I like how the people pretend thier animals.

  • I agree, its cute X3

  • One of my most Favourite Adaptions to the Story :D

  • im 14, 15 in February& this is my favourite movie of all time

as it was the 1st movie i ever watched i grew up with the books and the storys told to me. you can never get to old for this movie its a beautiful story& has many valuable lessons kids need to learn for their future.

    love it. ♥

  • "Oh no no it was dreadful!" Steve Coogan is so cute in this movie.

  • this was the first DVD i picked for myself when i was about 5 or 6 and i LOVED it i loved dancing to all the songs and everything else.

I even wanted the bedcovers if they had ever existed.

I CAN'T believe disney put this film down it's great compared to the crap films they make nowadays even the songs are catchier.

One of the best films i ever watched

  • All time fav ;)

  • 6:31 The water talks! Now that's freaky!

  • i loveold movies like this, they sure dontmake them likethis anymore!! if i have kids i would force them to watchthese because theres more value and lessons in older films than new ones...ect most movies now have slutty teens or just stupid kid actors that dont know how to act... lol

  • @RaptorLuv 1996 has become old. This saddens me.

  • @billwenham why you should be proud of that era!!!!! screw this movie era, no matter what its the sad part that we need to refer to the older movies for lessons and origianlity and quality not quantity

  • @RaptorLuv That's what I was saying. :P

Luckily the 8 year old girl I babysit for has has grown up with an appreciation for old school 2D animated films, I Love Lucy, and many other awesome things her mother and I introduce her to. I even got her hooked on the old NES Mario Bros.

    :)

(And being 28, hell yeah the 90s will always make me happy...)

  • I am 30 years old and have seen this years ago, and it's still the first movie I think of when I hear "Wind in the Willows" Its pure brilliance!

  • Hey! One of the weasels at 07:46 far right: Isn't that Keith Lee-Castle?

  • @millaindie yeh it is =)

  • I didn't know this was Disney!!!

  • Terry Jones looking like a green Mr Creosote.

    Brilliant.

  • this is more like a spoof of the original :-/

  • Great movie , I love it too ! Thank you for uploading it !

  • I've seen at least four different film versions of Wind in the Willows and I think this is the best one!

Having said which, it's a different type of film to the others anyway. This is filmed with real people in the real world, whereas the others were animations - two as cartoons and one with models.

  • This movie is GROSSLY underplayed. I saw it on tv today and I couldn't believe I'd never heard of it. Smashingly good!

  • 5th Python film this is.

  • what's the name of this movie? I'm still waiting for Disney to come out with another Wall-E movie..loved Wall-E !

  • Almost as brill as da book ! ( :

  • Poor mole! Loosing his home in such a dreadful way to full fill the boyish wilms of a rich boy.

  • we have done this play. and i was mr toad. I enjoyed it. we did it for our year 6 production.

  • i watched this when i was 11 and iv been looking for it since and i finally found it :)

  • reminds me a bit of monty phython or however u spell it...

  • @cooljoemaz Well, let's just say, I like both of the Disney adaptations of WITW and say we didn't, okay? :)

  • @cooljoemaz I never said I hated the 1949 version.

  • This makes me even more proud to be English

  • @15hl I envy the English.

  • @RebekkhaGiL can i ask why ?

  • @TheLloydA1 ive always admired the english.england seems like a very noble country and they have such a rich history.

  • @15hl I read the great book around 43 years ago. This is great, especially with most of my favourite actors.

  • @15hl How ironic that the book was written by a Scotsman.

  • @ninman58 How ironic indeed!

  • It was actually well-received I believe. I think it's a decent film. Could use better pacing though.

  • I love the Wind in the Wilsow

  • Why'd you misname this? It's obiviously Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, not Wind in the Willows.

  • @theScytheofGod

It's not misnamed. This film was tied up in red tape. It was released in cinemas the US by Columbia/Tristar, however the video DISTRIBUTION rights went to Disney. Sadly, since neither studio wanted to give the other a dime, the cinema release was very small - I saw it in a tiny art film house in Berkeley Ca. - and when Disney got their gloved mitts on it, they changed the title to "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" (which was pretty hypocritical; they had just closed the ride in Florida.)

  • never heard from this movie until i saw steve cogan on top gear lol

  • one thing, its called mr. toads wild ride not wind in the willows, i know its a live action remake but still go with the real title

  • @explodingexplosives

In the UK it is known as Wind In The Willows and wasn't distributed by Disney.

I saw around the time the renamed DVD in New York with the Disney logo.

It's ok, but he messed about with the plot a lot.

  • Starring Terry Jones as the Crunchy Frog. *lol*

"Care for a mess-about on the river? Eh? Eh? Know what I mean, know what I mean? Nudge-nudge, say-no-more?" ;D

  • Strangely, this is only the second time that Disney adapted the Wind in the Willows.

  • After Terry Jones made this,he tried to find a major company to distribute it in America, but all Hollywood turned him down---including Disney.

Eventually, they did buy it,and released it on home video under the title "Mr.Toad's Wild Ride".

  • I thought this wasn't desney, its a diffirent company!? ?_?

  • My dad used to watch these movies when he was a kid. Now I watch it with my dad. Its so good

  • I'm learning this in my shool, I JUST FOUND OUT IT IS GREAT!

  • I remember as I live in england it saying the wind in the wollows

  • i went to see this movie with my dad when i was 7 yrs old, still my favorite story growing up as a kid...i will definitely read my children this story and have them watch it

  • This movie really brings back my childhood memories. Thanks for uploading, I've been looking for this!

  • I can't belive how good toad is in this

  • Wait..... why is there a Disney logo, if a different company made this movie??

  • @toonstarfreak :That's what I was thinking.

  • @toonstarfreak disney / buena vista is the distributor and the production company is something else..?

  • I do remember seeing the trailier for this when I was a wee child, though I love how british this film really is, plus, the fact the Monty Python cast is in it makes it better.

  • i remember comng back from playschool and watching this with my grandad

    RIP grandad i love you

  • I like when Mole says "What Under Earth." It must be his own way of saying "What on earth."

  • Poor Moley. :(

  • ali :( poor moley

  • ali

  • i cant believe the life of brian went so low in the future

and animals have taken the form of humans and know how to use human technology now

    im so confused

  • Wonderful! 5*s!

  • Ill rate this 4*s

  • If there's anything I love about British films, its the eccentricity and wit that goes into the mix and makes it such a treat not just to look at but listen to. This film is no exception. The gentler scenes come off as warm and inviting, comic moments are twice as much fun, and then the darker moments come off as so sinister and creepy that you can't help but smirk and cackle along with the villains. I hope to follow the same tradition some day in my own work.

  • I only saw this, like, once when I was a toddler.

  • i love this movie

  • I love this film im doing a plauy of it in school im Mr Toad.i ju

  • @ChekeyMonkeys I bet that'd be fun!

  • what's the name of the song that mole is 'singing' at the beginning?

  • ,,, Wait, how can they have someone guest star?

  • i feel bad for his house :(

  • When this came out in the movies, It wasn't Disney. You must have got the DVD of it.

  • Despite the weirdness, it looks like they're respecting the book pretty well. Some of the dialogue is straight from the book. I like that

  • I feel so bad for that guy, he just lost his home, and he looks so sad. I just feel terrible for him

  • i thought moles were blind?? lol

  • it's the glasses :)

  • oh YAY! i remember watching this over and over when i was little :D

  • Woo hoo! Thank you!!

  • If this movie had Terry Gilliam in it, The Almost whole Monty Python cast would be in it.

  • I must stop watching this so that I can watch it with my Geek friends. This just seems like one of those movies :D

  • When I first saw this, no one liked it but I loved it and still do. Thanks for the upload!

  • Great cast and funny to watch, but I hope my son will not see this for a long time to come. He absolutely loves this bok and all the creatures in it and I know this movie would ruin it for him.

I hate it when they make new stories out of good books and call them the same. Based on.. ok. But this is NOT the wind in the willows!

  • @un1quem00n I still haven't read the original book yet, but from what I can tell there isn't a single film adaptation that follows the story to a tee. They all seem to put their own spin on the material. Of course, I'll have to check it all out for myself, so don't take my word for it just yet.

This movie is actually what got me interested in reading the book BTW.

  • I just love the opening credits.

"Michael Palin as The Sun." YOU JUST KNOW THIS IS GOING TO BE A KICKASS MOVIE.

....I'm gonna keep watching out of curiosity. CURIOSITY.

  • I thought I'd watch that after the Nostalgia Critic mentioned it on his list of the Top 11 villain songs. Ooh, members of Monty Python are in it!

  • Tea Time!!! :D:D:D:D:D

  • Don't get me wrong I did enjoy the film but why does everything talk? I get the whole animals talking thing but theres a point where the water talks WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

  • @samthepsycicclam it's much like your first acid trip all over again.

  • @samthepsycicclam Remindes me of "Mario - THE EYES..." by ~ojamajodoremidokkan on deviantArt.

  • irishdude69: Michael Palin played the sun. It says so in the opening credits. In fact, watching this movie again, several years laster than when I first saw it, I recognised a whole load of great actors whom I didn't know when I was a kid. This is a classic interpretation!

  • I completely forgot about this film until Nostalgia Critic mentioned it. My family and I watched it in our hotel room one night in Boston, it was on the movie menu.

  • same here
