It was difficult (impossible?) for Bobby to admit anyone was great at chess or could possibly be a match for him. He really believed he was unbeatable and the very best in the world and no one else was in his class.
@KJVWordofGod What do you mean? When asked if he could beat Capablanca, he didn't display the type of attitude that you describe. He just said, "Well, I don't know... if he doesn't make any mistakes then he wins. If I don't make any mistakes then I win. It's hard to say."
Yes, the journalist made mistakes, but you have to look at the situation of the times. In defense of the interviewer here, you should acknowledge that back in those days they did not have instant translation in subtitles. Here, it was the requirement of the interviewer to both ask questions and translate. The reason why the interviewer interupts often is because if he does not interject he will lose track of all the things the guest said. The interviewer had an extremely difficult task.
Fischer is obviously irritated about this continuing interrupting. The interviewer clearly does not care about the words of his guest. Big journalistic mistake.
bobby is probably thinking when is this f*cking d*ck going to end this interview ... he's translating into russian with a spanish accent probably a cuban spy
@SongsofInnocence Scratch that last post, for obvious reasons, one would expect peoples names to be spelled as they are written on passporsts and driving licences etc.
Los 8 an~os invicto creo habla bastante...
@damthatriver09 mostly he's just translating. so in some way, what he does, is spreading bobby's word to poeple who don't understand english. now, what's wrong with that?
@MoPar7055 They're the "fake" jews of today; the Sephardi jews whom are actually Khazars and converted to judiaism in the 7th century. The only problem is Judaic law doesn't allow conversion, so I guess they are completely fraudulent.
if i was bobby I would tell the interviewer just shut-up and let me finish at least one long sentence. So annoying. Good that Fischer didn't like to speak about himself so much. This shows how humble he really was, although being the greatest chess player ever lived.
Capa was a great natural talent but not the greatest natural talent. Look up Khan for Pure chess genius and never EVER studied he was a slave matter of fact and beat some of the biggest names in chess IN europe when his master brought him.after KHan has to be MOrphy then Capa then fischer. I put morphy before Capa only for the fact that 1 he was a practicing lawyer didnt have time or desire to study and didnt ever want to be known as a chess pro. Yet he dominated chess he left because of boredom
@blackoil911, your being negative again, research research research , he was pretty young and still learning when tal beat him , bobby had his measure tho very soon after
@isedairi Because he is a TERRIBLE interviewer-= he won't shut the fuck up.
I understand he has to translate his questions and Bobby's answers. However, he does more than that= He asks Bobby a Question, Bobby starts to answer, Beljica translates the answer and BEFORE BOBBY IS FINISHED HIS THOUGHT Beljica asks him ANOTHER QUESTION. This could have been an invaluable document. It isnt'. Bobby's total time speaking is less than 20 seconds.
@jessicafischerqueen agreed! Also the interviewer has no clues what he is talking about "also, like Capablanca - you have very easy style" - say w00t? Fischer played like Capablanca when the position demanded it - when the position demanded sharp moves he would play sharp moves.
@jessicafischerqueen Sort of true, but go watch interview with Dick Cavett. Even when given the chance, Fischer was a man of few words. Later in life, that changed and we began to understand why Fischer should just STFU.
@isedairi His name is Dimitrije Bjelica ! And he is from Serbia ex Yugoslavia and he was a good friend with Bobby Fischer, who is for me the best chess player ever !

worst match: a chess player who doesn't talk much and a self-advertising interviewer. That's real slapstick.
