It was Google/Youtube.  I finally tracked it down to a toolbar applet that had been installed on my system. I generally block/deny all of those things, but I was impatient once, and it cost me by having to deal with the Google 'enhancements' provided by a toolbar.

Funny somebody should post something like this,my pc has gone very slow, I've run all the usual checks but nothing came up BUT this happens now that never used to a) I have difficulty clearing certain cookies, b)some cookies get right into my pc and c) uploading a video take so long I dont bother any more. Its all gone pear shaped!

it actually turned out that I *was* subscribed to a "MULE" - after my Google search for the same.

It's interesting that my Google search ended up in my subscriptions, but I'll attribute it to a Bug in Youtube for now. Though it is suspicious.

I say the odds are that it is a legitimate bug... but then again, I know for fact (and have seen evidence) that Google searches do show up in your Youtube searches from time to time. The mechanism? *shrug* not any clue.

Targeted ads are what google does best, I can't tell you how many times I've been surfing for malcolm x or 911 or some other thing and I get a page full of girly videos, am I crazy or has this not happened to anyone else?

I've been using gmail for quite a while, and nearly all of the bar adverts in gmail are related to words/topics in my mail, and obviously the google ads are always related to the searches.. it wouldnt suprise me if they took your databased google information and tried to give you videos they think you would want.

think back: did at any time the string "M.U.L.E." pass through a google system?

lol, long youtube downtime makes me always panic for some reason.

The downtime bothered me less than the fact I was able to view LG15 videos before I could look at my subscriptions by almost 12 hrs.

And YES M.U.L.E. was the last keyword search I had done when the problem started.

i've noticed something similiar, first thought was maybe i subscribed and forgot then when i looked i knew i wouldn't have to subscribed to some of them under any circumstances. nothing surprises me anymore.

It's very possible it has something to do with my FireFox update, which was midway in progress when the oddities started, and complete when they were gone.

I still don't put it past GoogTube to snoop around for content.

I was told by a friend who uses GMail frequently that the adverts that pop up all match the content he had just finished surfing.

Regardless, the problem has stopped now, so I'm happy to leave it at that.
