Vision of Love is her song; she alone can claim it both vocally and lyrically. This is also why you should not bash her lyrics, because at least they're hers. The con, however, is that she has fewer CDs than Celine because she chooses not to merely pick the most beautifully crafted songs from a group of talented songwriters.
THIRD: This means that Celine can have many songwriters working to make beautiful songs for her (after all, that's what they are paid for.) This has pros and cons. The biggest, biggest pro is that she can produce songs much more frequently than Mariah, because she has songwriters writing for her. This is evident because Celine has MUCH more CDs than Mariah to market.The cons is that her complete artistry may not be reflected in her lyrics, although they may be reflected in her voice.
FIRST: I would like to say that I love, love,love Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. Just wanted that to be the basis for my arguement before ppl start calling me a hater. My first fact is that Mariah and Celine are completely different in terms of marketing, and I'll explain why...
SECOND:The complete, unbiased truth is that Celine Dion does not write her songs, while Mariah writes all of them. This has a lot of implications, but does not degrade Celine or make Mariah better in any way.

@LollipopBling Mariah ain't exactly Paul Simon or Lennon/McCartney when it comes to writing talent. Most of her songs are mediocre at best. "Hero" ain't exactly "Bridge Over Troubled Water" or "Let It Be". The key to her stardom was her VOICE, not songwriting ability. Therefore, it seems downright silly to tout her skill as a songwriter to suggest she's superior as an artist to someone else, especially 2 women whose vocal abilities easily rival her own.

@enchantedboy66 Well I have to disagree. Mariah was signed due to her voice, yes, but ALSO her songwriting. Songwriting is the heart of any music which makes it so much more personal than a cover. It is one thing to project someone elses song and make it inspirational, but its in a completely different league when writing the song and singing it the way the artist wants it to be.

If just any old body can deliver a stellar performance of a song, why don't most songwriters sing their own songs? Why is it that most people consider Patsy Cline's version of "Crazy" the definitive interpretation, not Willie Nelson's (the guy who wrote it)? Perhaps because singing is an art form unto itself.

I am saying, the emotion in the song to me, is portrayed less because the person didn't write it. She died 3 years before I was born, but I've always been completely aware that she was one of the best singers of all time. @LollipopBling I've already responded with several "decent" answers, all of which you promptly ignored. 1) Mariah's songwriting is mediocre at best, especially compared to truly gifted songwriters like Carole King and Dolly Parton. 2) A talented singer can take practically anyone's song and make it their own with a stellar interpretation. And 3) Not writing your own songs is hardly indicative of a lesser singer (Patsy Cline and Aretha Franklin being prime examples).

Oh, and btw, I don't want any sass from any person fanatically in love with Celine, nor any praise from Mariah fans. I explicitly said I love BOTH singers equally. Just because Celine doesn't write her own songs does not degrade her in any way; she is a very smart person, and I respect her decision. Likewise, Mariah is not a step above for writing her songs, because they're are pros and cons (read the fucking posts below) for all these actions.

CONCLUSION: Again, I want to say that I love both of them, so don't bash on me. But, it's unfair to compare the two in terms of songwriting. Celine chooses to let others write out her lyrics for her, releasing truly beautifully written songs from world-renowned songwriters. Mariah chooses instead complete artistry over her work, writing her emotions and thoughts into her songs.
Just wanted to point these FACTS, not opinions out in an unbiased manner. Moral: Just fucking enjoy they're songs. =)

FOURTH: Because Mariah writes/co-writes all her songs, she also has pros and cons. Her pro is that she favors complete artistry over letting other people write her music. Vision of Love is her song; she alone can claim it both vocally and lyrically. This is also why you should not bash her lyrics, because at least they're hers. The con, however, is that she has fewer CDs than Celine because she chooses not to merely pick the most beautifully crafted songs from a group of talented songwriters.

FIRST: I would like to say that I love, love,love Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. Just wanted that to be the basis for my arguement before ppl start calling me a hater. My first fact is that Mariah and Celine are completely different in terms of marketing, and I'll explain why...
SECOND:The complete, unbiased truth is that Celine Dion does not write her songs, while Mariah writes all of them. This has a lot of implications, but does not degrade Celine or make Mariah better in any way.

All Whitney does when she's hitting high notes is to shout and she could not even do it with falsetto otherwise her voice would falter.
As for Mariah, falsetto is her main weapon and whistle which she cannot controlled.
Anyway, what I noticed about WH and MC is that vibrato disappear when they belt high note. WH sounds flat and MC sounds whispering. BOOOOOOOOOO

Let me say this is absolutely awesome. Mariah was at her best, beautiful and talented. Whitney simply a gift from God, she had no rivals in the 80s. Celine the white response to black voices' supremacy, her performance at the Olimpic Games blew eveyone away. Many thanks for this video!

to be honest Mariah and whitney are not that good anymore, they had their time in the 80's and 90's when they were the best now they are recognised for their past great songs. Their current albums and performances are a shadow of their former greatness. Whitney looks ill, mariah voice is not the same. Celine is till ok but not as good as before
