Can you make a video showing how to park using a manual transmission vehicle? I noticed that reversing and parking isn't really covered in any of the videos I've seen so far. It would help me a lot and I'm sure there's other people who feel the same as I do. Thank you.
LOL i thought Heel toe was when youre putting your right foot on the brake pedal, you twist your ankle and hit the gas pedal with your heel!? and besides only race car drivers use this :D
@yogijimi101 This was before i had a job and went to school at night lol. I have no time for anything now! Im trying to make some time for new videos.
@drfizzi Hell yeah man, I hear you on that haha. Theres only one thing to do when you have that much time, is to get creative! hahah. Keep them neutral races coming!
@2278charlie Becuase if you don't you are going to feel a jolt, and the shifting won't be seamless, plus you will be adding needless stress to your cars components...
@Proiive They accomplish the same goal but double clutching is done if you car has no synchronizers (racing transmission) so that the shifts are smoother and put less strain on the engine. I honestly don't even recommend double clutching in a regular car, it takes too long anyway.
Is that Willowbrook Mall? I'm not too far away from there, so this video makes me feel a little better about driving a stick in congested North Jersey.
@2tooful Nah its actually if your aftermarket metal shift knob gets hot in the summer you put a headband over it so you don't burn your hand. I just like the way the sweatband looks haha. Jazzes it up a bit.
I'm surprized you don't cover clutchless shifting (more useful in modern cars than dbl clutch whe you clutch fails). Also, modern cars with the accel ped and brake at differant levels don't lend themselves well to "heel n toe". Nice vid.
Ps. Audis have probably some of the easiest to shift trannies out there.
I was just pointing out there is things that somebody may actually need to know about shifting a modern stick car. The basics are simple enough anybody with minor co-ordination can do it. Todays sticks almost shift themselves.
BTW, Double clutching does nothing where it's not required. Just unnessary clutch wear.
@HOWNDOG66 Clutchless shifting is possible but its not very good for your car. The clutch is there for a reason. You are right about the pedal position as well, my car sucks for heel toe shifting since the pedals are so far apart. My audi shifts like butter and has almost 200k on the stock clutch. I just won't dare to launch it haha.
I want to know this. I cant find it in any video. What if im in like 5th gear doing like 55 or something and a car in front of me breaks really quick and i have to slam my breaks and then all of a sudden im doing like 30 mph. But have no time to downshift as i hit my breaks hard.
@bathingape28 What i do is brake accordingly and i clutch in so that i do not stall. Then when the road hazard is gone i shift in to a gear appropriate for the speed im going. In your example you said the car slows down to 30mph so i would shift into 3rd gear then let off the clutch. 4th is good for like 40mph and above. Please dont practice on a public road though.
does the way you double clutched work on a bigger vehicle. wel a dodge ram 3500 dually? or is there a diffrent way to do it on a big pickup truck like that
@chevycamaro2174 I never have done it or seen it been done on a pickup truck. You could try it out, its the same method as a car just on a larger scale.
Hey i have a question and I'm sorry if i sound like a newb, i have a integra ls and when im doing about 40mph in 4th gear and when i wanna downshift to 3rd gear while at that same speed (i would do this if i wanna race/overtake some) the car does a big jerk and it's annoying, what am i doing wrong? I wanna be able to downshift at higher speed smoothly.. help?
@Juju23King You might be letting off the clutch too fast. Or try clutching in, blipping the throttle 1,000 rpms, downshift, then let off the clutch smoothly. That might solve your problem.
@Juju23King Check out my heel and toe demonstration video, very bottom one on my profile. There I do what you need to be doing to prevent jerking, it is called rev matching, give the video a look, and practice it yourself. Patience is key.
@SubatomicUniverse Sorry, replied a little to early, he does do rev matching in this video. However, if it helps, there is a better view of my feet in my video. It has no words, but I do try to describe it in the descriptions.
juJu... simple solution, when you press the clutch in... whilst you are holdong the clutch down, with the other foot, press the accellerator to "blip" the throttle which raises the RPMs... blip the throttle to about 3,000 RPM... then select third and let the clutch up.....
The scooby driver's bad acting literally made me cringe lol. It's funny how you see people like that and already know what their personality will be like before they speak.
he says in the beginning of the video its used if you need to make a slow turn. If you are in 4th or something and try to make a turn at 10 mph or less the car will stall
@2conRazor it's all about not loosing speed, or gaining more. You wanna downshift when you double a car so you can get more speed and do it quicker than staying in the gear you were. That's pretty useful when you are doubling a car and you see another car coming in the opposite way. And it is useful when you are taking a curve and you don't wanna lose speed.
@hyperlethal1: Rev matching reduces the load on the synchros and clutch during the downshift, because the engine is already at the right speed for the lower gear. If you don't rev match, the synchros must bring the engine up to speed for the gear, which involves a bunch of friction, and the clutch typically takes some of that beating. Rev matching will save your transmission. In addition, rev matching smooths out the shifts, which is important in racing to keep the car balanced for traction.
One other comment - downshift is NOT for slowing the car down. Transmissions are expensive - brakes are cheap. Use your brakes to slow the vehicle. Downshifting is really just for when you're not planning to completely stop, to get into the gear needed for the upcoming corner. If you're planning to stop, just push in the clutch and use the brake. If you'd rather be ready to accelerate at any moment, then heal and toe your down shifts.
The so called "single clutch" mentioned is anything but ideal. In slippery conditions, this will lead to sliding. It's seriously unsettling the car's balance, rocking on and off the brake like that. If you're not going to heel and toe your downshifts ALL the time, as you should, then just stay on the brake steady while shifting and let the transmission's synchros match the RPMs for you (shift when the RPMs are in line for the gear, of course). Modern cars are designed to deal with that.
@unboxingguru1 I just brake hard and clutch at the same time. I suggest leaving the clutch fully depressed and leave it in the gear you were in until to come to a stop. Put it in first then drive away. A fast take off would involve dumping the clutch which is bad for your car so dont do it.
@drfizzi for a fast stop what i do if i'm on 5th gear is hit the break, downshift to 4th (keep hitting the break), 3rd gear (keep hitting the break) sometimes from 5th to 3rd ... In my opinion is a little dangerous to leave the car in neutral also you will be wearing the crap out of your brakes. remember that a good person that knows how to drive stick will not have issues with their clutch our brakes.
@705jb You start out facing downward on a hill. Put the car in neutral and pull up the e brake. Then on on the count of three, release the e brake and roll down the hill. Whoever stops first wins!
@31Tashi That is an excellent question. My friends honda didnt have a rev meter it was crazy i never seen anything like it. I never drove it but i would TRY to go by ear which would be hard. It would take a lot of practice for a new driver to learn on a car like that but im sure you could use the same principles i provided in my video. Stay safe practice makes perfect.
@drfizzi I may be misunderstanding your video, but if you need to break that much, and rev match, I'm guessing you could just take the corner at the gear you were in anyway. Alternative to rev matching, would be simply waiting later till you downshift, so the change would be smooth naturally. Sorry, If I have missed the point.
@ChanelBankierPerry I suppose you could slow down in the gear you are while slowing down around the corner then downshifting afterward but its more efficient to downshift before the turn to be in the correct gear.
@esoberanis09 You dont need to rev while upshifting. I think its the best way for a beginner to start from first gear. If you have any more questions message me.
Anyway this car is awesome, when I'm going to choose which car to buy, it will be from 1998 Audi A3 1.9 TDI Two door or this audi model. They are very economical cars specially on diesel :)
@doriftolover Cool looking car! I want to get into a diesel car because they get such good gas mileage and they last forever. I wish everyone was not so thick headed here in the usa, people think diesel is such a dirty burning fuel. Europe uses diesel because they are smart...
@CarlsAirbrushTattoos You could do that but remember your car has the most grip while in gear so if you had to speed up because of a road hazard you would not be able to.
@CarlsAirbrushTattoos Yes, but then you would use your brakes more. When you downshift, you dont use your brakes as much because you are using the transmission to slow the car down.
@drfizzi oh sweet. thanks alot. i just got my g2 last month, learned stick shift on my friends car. as soon as i get a chance to learn downshifting and all that stuff i will, stick shift is alot more fun.
hahaha, I love the way you guys act to present this. There's a difference between ACTING like you want to look cool, when there's actual videos of people doing the whole 'side' look, actually trying to be cool, its hilarious : )

@vartiue You should check your manual or mechanic for a suggestions. You downshift based on speed.

hahaha, I love the way you guys act to present this. There's a difference between ACTING like you want to look cool, when there's actual videos of people doing the whole 'side' look, actually trying to be cool, its hilarious : )
