are these common to get as pets? i was thinking of getting one soon and i live in england i was just wondering if i could get one or cant you buy them here ? :S
@j0hnity nah that was a dilophisaurus and actually those dinos didnt have frills, and they were alot taller and longer, spielburg reduced there size and put frills on them for the movie. he did however keep the two frontward facing horns on the top. they were also scavengers not hunters and paleontoligists believe they were actually featherd according to the quills potruding from there fossils
She is adorable! What a beautiful lizard she is. I love how she hopped out of her enclosure/habitat, down on to the floor and ran over to the food dish - that was too cute!
I absolutely LOVE how the frills "flap" as she chews her meal - that is so darn cute!
@Zanmatt2g They make good pets, but also good feeders. People can't really handle (eat) them because they secrete minor neurotioxins when threatened that can cause your gums and lips to swell up. They also have spiny legs that can irritate your skin if they are pressed against you. Male Hissing roaches are interesting because of the small "horns" on their heads that they use to fight other males. If you had a colony of them, they're more than "just roaches".
that is sooo fricken cool i live in perth i didnt know you could have them as pets i see them at coral bay sometimes and also do you need justa normal licence
i have owned 2 frilled dragons in a home built cage like yours . i had to get rid of them because of a move. cant wait to get another 1 or 2.
i would just like to say thats one beast of a frilled dragon at first i thought it was a male. not saying you dont know your own lizard but does it have the spurs on the inside of the legs? if it truly is a female then thats a very nice looking frilled and congrats.
we have two bearded dragons jazz and dre, they are much loved. my son who is 12 wants a frilled dragon too, i have been a little reluctant but after watching this vid, how can i refuse him. How beautiful lucy is, i think im going to be extending my reptile family, thanx lucy xx
@Mattxmillen finally found a breeder here in Texas lol but the bastard is over pricing them for $300. He claims they're a new blood line but, when i asked for actual proof he blew it off and insisted i buy one from him XD
considering she was born in captivity and at the age that she is (about 7or 8) I fear she would die a horrible death if returned to the wild .... but OK.... if you insist
I'm sure they would be able to rely on their instincts to survive, just like some humans when thrown into life-and-death wilderness situations have done.
@trythisfuckinone whoever insisted you to send him back to the wild does not know what the hell he/she is saying. Attention: CAPTIVE BREED ANIMALS SUCK AT REAL LIFE SITUATIONS....
@trythisfuckinone no dont return her to the wild she is odveesly happy with you she would just get eaten out in the wild hold on to her and never let her go she is such a sweet heart
o also I think its gr8 IDEA with the guinea pig water bottle no more water all over the bedding !
Hmmm Im thinking that because Lucy came from the desert environment of the Kimberly region of WA (actually Lucy is captive breed but her species comes from there) she would not fair too well in the NSW rainforest which is a totally different environment and it would be possibly harmful for her but if you think thats a good idea hmm good luck with that
Well there are tons of them in Northern NSW, miles larger than the baby seen here. When I was at uni in Lismore they might be seen right next to u staring at the computer screen in one of the labs or waiting for a treat in a plaza restaurant. Of course they may be of a different variety. Also all the exotic birds are there. They also don't belong in cages and are much larger than the 'domesticated' ones. How would you like to be plucked out of your natural environment and caged ttfio?
@LadyFlusterbustle this one is captive bred so it isnt from the actual wild. Obviously trythisfuckinone knows how to look after there friled dragon so keep your nose outta it k
wow. i love how animal rights people say things to pet owners. ladyflusterbustle, seriously? the lizard shown in the video was born and raised in captivity. meaning its never seen the wild, so no, it doesnt belong there.
@LadyFlusterbustle yeah i know where your coming from about them not belonging in captivity but yeah they are up north not in nsw. Your probably thinking of the bearded dragon not the frilled neck lizard. But it does suck seeing these guys stuck in cages and enclosure.
@alvincupcake Why do you want to own a pet lizard and take it from its natural environment where it would be so much happier and healthier? Is it some sort of ego thing, that the creature depends on you for its survival and you 'own' him/her? How would you like to be in a cage?
@LadyFlusterbustle dogs and cat go in cages and all animals are wild some where in the world and all animals live with humans some where in the world and most (also every) captive breed animal isn't upset with living with human or being in a cage. if you took a cat or dog that had been hand feed it whole like and put it out in the wild it wouldn't make it.
@LadyFlusterbustle OK first, theres a 50% chance of it dying in the wild the first few days of its life, and if i would be feed and gave water and a big enough cage and go out once and a while, then yes i would like to be kept in a cage but im not a animal, am I? You have no IDEA what your talking about, your just one of those people who think its better for animals to live in the wild, Its good for them to be free but they have a better chance to survive if the captive.
@LadyFlusterbustle rofl, you're an idiot. Haven't you heard of the reptile industry? It's not like she's been taken from the wild. She's one of the many frilled lizards, and hundreds of other lizards that have been captive bred for quite a few generations.
