Its actually a fun movie, but it could have used some stronger songs, and a slightly better script. But Elvis does a good job and I enjoy the film. I wish they would remaster this film and put out, a better quality DVD. Its like it was taken from a VHS tape, instead of the film, for transfer.
Say what you want about this movie, but I would give everything to be in that time and setting, where things where so much simpler, and being there on that beach... Oh, Sounds like Heaven!
Col Tom Parker should have been shot for going along with this movie. To think the Beatles, the Stones, Airplane, the Dead were already going strong...while revolution was in the air, Elvis was being forced into morphing into your mom's favorite lounge act.
I think if this movie was remade it would be much better than all the terrible remakes that are coming out now. In fact it would probably be a big hit! Certainly no worse than High School Musical.
This was about as heavy as he would get, weight-wise, in a motion picture. Even reviewers of the day made note of it. Still, as late as 1966, just one year prior to this movie, Elvis Presley still ranked in the top ten (at number ten) box office attractions. After this, it fell apart, mainly because Hollywood didn't know what to do with him. Too old for the youngster with a chip on his shoulder roles, and not taken seriously for anything else. Too bad, cuz the King had real acting chops!
Out of all the films he made 10 out of 33 were great films..Elvis hated most of the films he was paid to do purely because they were just a way of producing an Album which would require no extra funding and would give him hit songs ..Elvis was fustrated by the lack of good scripts and good songs ..had he been given the right material to work with he would have been a fantastic Actor..Elvis honoured his contracts from 1960 to 69 ..the stress of these films made him ill.
I saw this movie in a theater when it came out. There is a motorcycle scene toard the begining and people were commenting out loud about how bad it was.
Poor Elvis, but Col. Parker made more $ off this film than any other before it!
A real campfest that makes Glee look like a Presidential debate! The real stars here are the guys in tight fitting hotpants and matching striped tank tops. Take a look at the guy in grey at the beginning with his wrists flapping everywhere! Several times the principal players don't know where the camera is. What acid-tripping set designer thought up those orange masks to clash with El's red slacks? Who said Austin Powers was parody? These things really happened on movie sets in 1967!!
I really have to laugh at all these comments about how miserable Elvis was making these movies, and yet his performances are still appealing 40+ years later. In fact, it's on TCM right now. Robert Osborne (Love her) wouldn't present garbage!!! I've been watching all of Hollywood's prozac-soaked whores of the past 20 years going on the talkshow-circuit to promote shit much worse than this, and it's all forgotten and forgiven before it even makes it to cable.
@nauort23 True. But Elvis came up in the era of Montgomery Clift, Marlon Brando, James Dean, and others considered to be Great. Great is what Elvis wanted to be in film, and he showed great promise. Then he was malmanaged by Parker & RCA...and he made silly movies; he was decent in them, but they were hardly good.
wow , I tottaly forgot about Clambake , OMG , I used to practice my dancing just like those Girls too,,,,LOL , in my room at the time ofcourse,,,way-cool-Clambake , lets eat....
i know wat you guys mean it is a sucky song and that was time of his birthday i feel preety bad 4 the guy its mested up fuck colonel parker he can suck dick 4 all i care he rueined elvis' life by giving him drugs and makeing him go on tour so much i no people liked his music but they wouldn't make him sing so much g\that it killed him i'm just saying its mested up
I read a little bit about Elvis at the time of this movie and he hated making it. He was sick of these silly films. I see it was made in 1967. So I looked up what other films were made in '67 as a comparison: The Graduate, Bonnie & Clyde, To Sir with Love, The Dirty Dozen, You Only Live Twice and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner were made in 1967and that's only a partial list.
It must have been humiliating. He turned 35 during this year....a little old for the beach party...poor dear.

The best songs and films was the mid 50s and early 60s. After that Elvis was forced to play crap films and sing crap songs.
