  • and its true it does get better after high school the minute you leave you never have to see those bullying losers again

  • Thank you Triple J

  • Love this video !!!! I defiantly felt like I didn't have anyone to back me up and I was alone I only had a few friends but I knew a lot of people and since I have finished school and am entering the real world I'm realizing that I'm happy the way I am I like having a few really close friends rather then a lot of bogan nobs. It's about quality of the people around you not the quantity. Annnnddd this video gives me a little bit of a crush on missy Higgins :D she's beautiful !

  • Fucking amazing

  • Tom Ballard is a bowl full of awesome.

  • God i hate the doctor.

  • Great video JJJ. I found it meaningful and heartfelt and it made me laugh too. Keep up the good work.

  • I'm gay and I had the crap bullied out of me in highschool. I wasn't out though and wasn't 'stereotypical' and the things I was bullied for had nothing to do with my sexuality. Bullying is bullying, regardless of who the bully is, who the victim is and what the nature of the bullying is. And I really would have loved someone to tell me at the age of 16 that it does get better (it's gotten SO much better...) - all I ever heard was 'highschool is the best years of your life, make the most of it'.

  • @amyjgarland I think that " highschool is the best years of your life" Thing is something made up in the 60's by middle aged men reliving their lives via the highschool football team. Every time i heard it back then i wondered what the hell that was about. I agree that bullying is bullying no matter who it is or what its about, I got picked on for being really tall of all things , i stuck out from the crowd and as such had to be taken down i guess lol.

  • Too true!! and beautifully told people, thank you so much for sharing your stories! xo

  • Well to everyone at Triple J putting this video together. It's just a shame it has to be done. We all have to do something to make schools a more tolerance environment.

  • Thanks for this video. Missy Higgins was the first person who made me realise that it was actually ok to be me, I've never connected with anyones lyrics and words like I have hers. To hear that it will get better from someone I respect greatly means a lot.

  • Check out Antonio Pauls song that is played in the background..

  • Tom TIlly marry me!!!!!!!!

  • A top video! Really appreciated!

  • I love you too Missy :) xx

  • Well spoken Tom Tilley! Very eloquent man.

  • This is beautiful, the end made me cry!

  • awesome message!!thanks

  • Brilliant o Triple J

  • This as a fantastic message... I am taking this into my Year 11 class on Monday... Thanks Triple J!!!

  • If you're growing up as a gay kid in a heteronormative world, your experience is entirely different from 'i once knew this kid at school who...'.

  • high rate of youth suicide associated with this. If you're bullied at school because you're into maths or computers, that's fine, but you still come home to a safe space, a luxury many gay kids, particularly in low-socioeconomic suburbs, do not have. Do you have any idea of what it's like to be told by your parents that you're going to die by the time you're 25 of AIDS, and that if you don't, you'll become a 40 year old paedophile?

  • Brilliant. Thanks Triple J.

  • Actually, I'm disappointed with Triple J's effort too. If you look at Google's, or Apple's video it's extremely poignant and candid and you can't help but be drawn in to each person's story. How many people in the Triple J video are *actually* gay? I ask this because the point of the 'It gets better' campaign is for older gay people to reach out to younger gay people. Specifically, it addresses the issue of homophobic bullying not just at school, but also in the family home, and the high rate o

  • @cubbenstein Ahh the old, "If you're not gay you can't support gay rights." argument. Nice one.

  • What, so the "It Gets Better" campaign is all about straight people telling us that they knew a gay kid once? Or that they had to come out of the closet as straight? I'm sure the bullying really started then! Some of these messages are heartfelt and raw and honest. And they connect to the real experience. Some of them don't.

SO many of the stories told in this GLOBAL campaign make you cry and laugh and scream and remember and love and be very, very happy.

Half of the triple j stories are trite.

  • @davidjamesryan There were straight people. gay people. Bi-sexuals.

It is apart of the Australian launch. In any case, for a station with such a far reach, I believe, and according to the likes and most comments a lot of people believe this video was worth while.

  • @macleanbrendan I think it was awesome, and a lot of Australians would look up to you guys, particularly those Triple J fans still at school.

  • SO the point of that was? It's a cheap shot that misses the mark of the global campaign. SO a couple of poofs (and I'm claiming MY right to use the word) are trotted out to be surrounded by some talking heads rambling about their experiences of bullying and homophobia. It's not the same guys. It really isn't the same. It's a sad attempt to hop onto a bandwagon.

triple j should have done a much better job than this. It could have been SO much better.

  • @davidjamesryan Hey David, Brendan from triple j here. We weren't trotted out, we were the ones who pushed to have it made. I wonder what you were looking for in our message? Did you not think it was heartfelt? Not personal enough? Not broad enough? I'm not sure.

It's not the same as what? Anyway, I'm sorry you feel this way. We wanted to share our stories and said them in a way we thought was beneficial and thoughtful. It seems a lot of people think it worked.

  • @davidjamesryan All the stories for this campaign are told in the person's own words, telling their own personal stories. It shows teenagers that everyone experiences bullying in some form and that they can get through these bad times and go on to have great lives and do whatever they wish. They are not alone. That is the point.

  • Hey triplejtv, can you put subtitles on your clip for those who are deaf?

  • Is that an Antonio Paul song playing at the end?

  • aww Lewi

  • That was excellent. Thanks guys!

Now just to get copies of this into schools...

  • This is awesome guys - you all rock :)

  • Nice one!

  • Awesome work guys

  • Wouldn't it be great if as a nation we tried to change that mono-culture inside schools, trying to explore more human qualities than academic and physical achievement; helping kids and adolescents to understand how to relate to other people - ethics, relationships, communication, empathy.

Many parents aren't necessarily doing a great job at that, so why not try it at school?
