This is called a "water drill" and it is done in the military, but differently. We would fill our water bottles and have 5 or 10 seconds to chug as much as we could and would then invert the bottle over our heads when we were done and if there was still water in it when time expired, it got on our heads. We would typically do this 3-5 times at once per day. I went to boot in summer time so this was their way of making sure we drank enough water but sometimes it is used as punishment.

@silvert00 ...That is very interesting, thanks for posting. When adults enter the military, I think they are aware of the rough training they will endure and the end to the means. When it involves children, 2 things are different, 1. They are forced into these programs, they did not volunteer, and 2. they are not prepared for the training or abuse they will endure with no clear understanding of the reason for being placed.
