  • Hi, I am Jamie from Malaysia. Lovely tortoise you've got there! If you don't mind, could you please add me as a friend. Need to send you a private message... Thanks!

  • those torts are over 1000.00$ on websites!

  • are these Sri Lankan stars?

  • omg my baby tortoise seems to be very half dead..hes very lethargic eeven there is warm light for them....:C i need help i even went to the vet...he says just give him some vitamins and he will be alright...but after 5 days hes still not eating ...anything that makes tortoise hungry??

  • I recognise this comment is from over two months ago.

Is the tortoise still alive? Just wondering, maybe I can help at all.

  • @tw1stedgrudge well its dead..:C its just a hatchling

went to the vet..still no hope..:(

  • Do you know what the exact species was?

  • @tw1stedgrudge indian star tortoise(geochelon elegans)

  • Mm. Indian stars are some of the hardest to take care of. They need a very warm enclosure, and arid as possible. The problem is, many are still wild caught and not all breeders are good ones. You'll find people are still out there selling animals riddled with internal parasites, problems with their bodies, diseases, etc. Sadly, because of this, its often impossible to pin the problem down to one thing. : (

  • @tw1stedgrudge what is arid?and currently im buying from a good breeder :) ..the dead tortoise is from a local petshop >:C

now my tortoises are happy and its not hard though..:P

  • "Not hard enough"? As in, not hard in the shell?

Thats bad. Feed it a complete tortoise dry pellet food that you can buy from the pet stores for a while, if thats the case. You know those cuttlebones you put in birds cages? GRIND some of the cuttlebone up into powder, and put it on its lettuce. This is basically pure calcium carbonate, and helps its shell grow big and strong.

You need to give them lots of sun, or a UVB light though, for them to make the B12 vitamin to grow bones + shell.

  • @tw1stedgrudge i meant not hard to take care xD..oh i though its vitamin d3 to strengthen shell and i knew they need uvb and cuttlebone thing..lettuce are bad arent they?:)

  • all torts need calcium for healthy growth, vitamin D3 is for absorption of calcium. D3 is from sunlight, which is why your torts need to bask. lettuces are mostly moisture and no nutritional content

  • The darker the leaf, the better it is. Try to stay away from kale and spinach, as it slows their process of calcium-to-bone and shell. : )

  • i'm sorry but actually you should stay away from dry pellet foods, they're too heavily processed and not natural. stick to high fibre grasses and weeds for a natural and healthier diet.

  • Dry pelleted foods are perfectly fine. I've used them often enough and I support using ZooMed Grassland Tortoise food and T-Rex brands. They hold all the necessary vitamins which the huge majority of keepers are not able to sufficiently gather in one sitting.

FYI; not everyone can go out and find fresh high fibre grasses. And weeds (dandelion, etc) actually dont hold much of the nutrition they require.

FIBRE is a must, yes, but the vitamins and minerals moreso. Thats why processed is good.

  • nice what the name of the background music?btw

  • they r beautiful how big do they get?
