i know theyr not great for overclocking but a quad at 2.9 for £100.... bargain!

AMD are intended to be for high resolution, wich is pretty cool. But when it comes to depth in dynamic lights and shadows Nvidia destroys AMD.

And yeah as you've mentioned before, AMD sucks ass at over-clocking they get over-heated so damn fast.

aslong as you keep aa off (doesnt seem to make a huge difference) and tweak parts... such as shadows down a notch... just tweak and you should be fine

i have the same hardware too, AMD Phenom X4 9950 BE and HD 4870 X2 both at stock clock, fan cooler, and 4G DDRII 800, Vista Ultimate 64 SP1, i play Crysis Warhead in 1680x1050 with all enthusiast setting 4xAA it run smooth average 25-30 fps but it doesnt long last (about an hour) because the hardware overheating

how long can you play Cysis with that setting?

My system never overheated... I can play every game till my death ;-) ... but make sure your coolers are running.. hmmm otherwise you must contact support (AMD/ATI)

Hey whats up I can see you are an enthusiast :) I also have an 4870 x2 from Gainward - mine is overclocked and with dual fan and HDMI out which I really need for home theatre (and I don't like Nvidia because of their huge ugly ass cards). Anyway I know my system will run Warhead very nicely on max @ 1920x1200 on my 24 inch, should get at least 30 fps which is fine by me, but will it overheat under MAX DETAIL? How is yours doing? Are you happy with the performance? Thanks!

In your bios, if there is settings to change the fan speed for the CPU, do that. And in windows, Use Rivatuner and turn your GPU fan speed up.

right! It will not overheat and if thats the case than no dammage will happen because of it's overheating protection ^^ So it will shut down if the CPU reaches over 70 degrees and the X2 has also an overheating protection... just test it!
