It was hot and the organizers did pass out water, but an elderly guy couldn't stand the heat and passed out right beside me. Obama announced the fact that we need an EMT for him, and a cop and I carried him off to the side. Once we got to the side barrier, we couldn't pull it apart because the prongs were bent, so we had to walk him through the crowd to the back. This thing definitely could have been organized better, but Obama will have my vote in November. Great speech as well.
I thought it was poorly organized. A street corner in Uptown Charlotte isn't going to cut it for 25K people. The initial email said you should RSVP (for what? it's outside) and you didn't need tickets.
And then you get there - and the organizers say you need tickets. LOL
It wasn't a terribly warm day -- but standing for 4 hrs (more for others) made it rather hot.
I'm glad I got in and got a good spot -- but I think there's got to be a better place for a rally.
Even if you got in, he was facing the wrong direction from the main crowd and not up high enough either. No one could see him from the street and people were fainting. It was cool until you got inside, then it felt like 100 degrees. I got there at 9am. When I got back to my car at 2:30, I decided watching it from my living room would have been a better plan. Next time, you guys can have my spot, but he still gets my vote:)
Although the event was free. You still needed a pass to get in. Those were not being handed out from what I could see on the Mcdowell side (that's where I started). In Greensboro there is a list telling you where you can get the passes. Don't know how I missed that important info in Charlotte. I made it inside just in time.
I barely got in, only saw the last 1/3 of the speech, but luckily I stuck around and he came back out and shook hands and kissed babies afterwards. Great speech, but the event in generally was kinda poorly organized, the tons of testimonials of people who weren't able to get in is proof of that. If he comes back he should speak at Bank of America, MAYBE that can fit all of his supporters.
Beautiful Day in Charlotte NC... This man is masterful! He will be known as one of the greatest presidents US history has ever known! Washington, Lincoln, Kennedy --- and Obama! GO OBAMA!
A beautiful North Carolina day for Obama..we were thrilled to have him in the Tarheel State. We listened from several blocks away because there were so many people(THOUSANDS).I was amazed at the diversity of the people.I was touched by Obama's words thundering through the air, by the kind people around me, by the elderly white Navy veteran wearing his Navy cap and walking(with the assistance of a walker)for what I am sure was a mile to hear Obama. This was a day I will never forget.I now have hope
Same as most, I waited in a line six blocks away and never got to see him. But it was all worth it when I heard his voice echoing around all the buildings of downtown Charlotte. It gave me chills and made me feel so happy and hopeful to see such an incredible turnout. Thousands, people! Thousands!
Overall, even though we didn't get in, I was very happy to see such an incredible turn out. Later, after a couple of frosty sports elixers, all was well with the world (more or less). I think we have a shot at winning NC, as well as witnessing a crushing defeat for Palin/McCain... uh, I mean McCain/Palin!
Yeah, My friends and I waited for hours and didn't get in! We were trying to follow the rules, but of course that was the wrong approach, because we know people that just rolled up at the last minute and snuck in, no problemo! We were furious about the lack of organization of this event. I guess I'm really just mad at myself for being so stupid to wait in a pointless, never ending line. Obama started to speak. All Hell broke loose. People running amok. Lesson: Waiting in lines is for suckas
