@alexrj2 I know of no states where it is "forbidden to preach in the streets"...at least not as a law. There may be rogue cops, security, governmental officials, etc., but there is NO LAW in the U.S. forbidding the preaching of the Gospel on public property...

@ctg18158 I appreciate the advice, but as you can tell, this was from a long time ago. Before I left the Raleigh, NC area, I had no problems with the cops whatsoever. God Bless...
@bulldovla1 Dear sir that is bullshit. Take a zip of any alcohol and you are legally drunk in 0% tolerance countries. Alcohol is a drug and there is no line between being drunk and drinking. So tell me bulldovla, how do you distinguish between a guy drinking alcohol and a guy who is drunk by alcohol?
Fair play to you, st patrick was one of the first if not the first christian missionary to spread the word of christ accross the island, before him and during his time in england until he was taken slave by english raiders at the age of 16, irelands sole religion was paeganism!! St patrick was made a patrion saint of ireland for his religion/christian work in saving people and spreading the word, but now as with anything else on earth the devil and his sinners and taken over it.. sad..
Communists cops.... plus is i saw a street preacher being assaulted by a crowd of non believers i would have got in there and defended him. Its sad how far America has fallen in its belief of God.
Honestly, I think the police were sincerely trying to protect the preacher. From the video observation it was getting obvious that some people not only were making fun of(mocking) and sport out of the preacher but were starting to physically get close and almost mock in a too up close way. I think the police knew that you had a legal right to keep preaching but sometimes as humans police have to make judgment calls when they feel that the crowd may physically turn on you the message aside.
That is exactly what they were doing if you ask me. That's just the point though. What they are supposed to do is NOT remove me (because I have done nothing wrong), but keep those who they are concerned about back.
You don't stop my freedom of speech because others are being unlawful. You stop the unlawful ones and take action on them, not the lawful one. This is what the law says they should do...
have to say i disagree with you sir and would be glag to point you to many scripture that speak against drinking.
See its like sin you just cant do a little sin god said for all has sinned and falled short of his glory. Just look at the Ten comandments god said if you look on a woman with lust you have comitted sin in your heart. So if just a thought could be classified as a sin then what do you think drinking would be.
Ok im all ears for these facts that you claim to have that Jesus drank Alcohol ( Ferment Wine).....
Please show me in scripture only.
The word Alcohol was not even a word till 1672
The word was fermented and non- firmented wine.
Using your reasoning than it would be ok to smoke pot do coke -cane are any other drug as long as you dont do to much. We could even go as far as saying owning a slave would be cool because it to was legal at one time.
I cannot believe what i saw! Those police officers were completely in the wrong by stopping you preach. This one dates back a while. I must say that you have grown in your ability to talk with the police to encourage them to enforce the laws.
I am still shocked to see them deny your right as an american citizen. Keep preaching brother!!!
Skelly keep up the good work my brother. I would like to point out that jesus did not drink ferminted wine no alcohol at all. In proverds its clear that damned is the person that gives his neighbor strong drink. Not to look upon the wine once it moves itself. U dont put new wine in old bottles. The thought that Yashuah would use alcohol as a token of his blood is blasphemy. He made more than 150 gals at wedding of canna and no one got drunk new wine....pure like christ
The fact is that Jesus drank wine. Kerrigan was correct in stating that it doesn't justify their drunkenness. Just because you have a problem with alcohol doesn't make it a sin to drink it. That is called legalism. I would say that if drinking causes you to stumble into drunkenness, then you shouldn't drink it at all. That is a personal thing. You can enjoy beer or wine without falling into sin.
Very few, but it's not my job to convert them. It's my job to preach the Truth of the Bible and let the Holy Spirit and the free will of the listeners do the rest...
It is not either or, it is both and. The Holy Spirit draws all men near, convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment, BUT the sinner must respond in repentance and faith...
hogwash. it was non alcoholic wine . otherwise the Bible contradicts itself. Pr 23:31-32 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.---this says dont even LOOK at fermenting wine, much less drink it
Wait, was this guy preaching in America???!! Sorry excuse for a police officer. His interpretation of the law was wrong. It make his job easier to violate the rights of one man then stop a dozen drunk men hassling him.
I'm allowed to judge sinner. No, I'm saying that Atheists can't account for morality itself based on their own presuppositions. And by your own words, you are actually living according to your own worldview...
Still name calling eh? So atheists can't account for their morality, because they don't believe in god, unlike you who has a bronze aged book to go by? That's a red herring isn't it, because it is perfectly possible to have good morals (the same as yours) and not believe in god or the bible. Maybe I am more moral. I would have placed 'you shall not murder' a little higher up the list than appears in your bible.
Name calling? No, just describing a person...namely YOU who is a sinner. I didn't say atheists aren't Moral or that they can't have Morals. Read this again: Your worldview can't ACCOUNT for anything that is immaterial, absolute and universal! Your worldview is based primarily on empiricism. The ironic thing is that you can't even prove empiricism with empiricism! What a fool you are atheist! I pity you. The fact of the matter is that without God you can't prove ANYTHING!
And your justification for all this is...? Because the bible says so. I'm tired of your circular arguments. That which can be asserted without evidence can be disproven without evidence, as someone once said.
No, No, NO sinner...your arguments are circular. Please sinner, tell me in a very Sunday School, Kindergarten manner how you can account for Logic, Morality, Laws of Science, Uniformity in Nature or ANYTHING else that is Immaterial, Absolute and Universal. Notice, I have not even used the Bible once. The existence of God is proven by the impossibility of the contrary. Without God you can't prove ANYTHING!
You insist on being derogatory towards me. There's no need for it. So that we don't trip over semantics, define for me logic, laws of science and immaterial. Then tell me how you prove god. You are the one making the claims, not me, so the onus is on you to prove what you claim.
I am an attorney who specializes in First Amendment rights. Your rights were blantantly violated. I am actually in shock that they would do that! But as a Christian I believe you did the right thing by stopping. But if you went to court you would win everytime. YOU ARE EXACTLY RIGHT, there job is to protect YOU, and make sure YOU are able to keep speaking until it gets to the point where uncontrollable violence is about to break out. Only then can they stop you. AMAZAING!
You may be an attorney but your spelling and grammar are poor.
Surely the police were right to remove him if they considered that his continued action would lead to a breach of the peace? Regardless of his 'right' to do what he was doing.
I have to agree with you regarding my horrible spelling and grammar. ("there"/ "their" oops! :) With that said, the fact remains that his rights were blatantly violated. The US Supreme Court has made clear that the police must protect the speaker until the crowd gets violently out of control.
Thanks. Do you know what the date was for this Supreme Court ruling? Maybe the Police thought that the crowd was about to get out of hand and therefore decided to act promptly to avoid any unpleasantness.
The big Supreme Court case would be Brandenburg v. Ohio, 395 U.S. 444 (1969). It says that a state cannot forbid speech unless it "is directed to producing or inciting imminent lawless action" and is "likely to produce or incite such action." However, for a case with facts very similar to this video you will have to look to lower courts. (Cases like this would not even go to trial much less an appeal to the Supreme Court. -- The city would settle the case, apologize, and move on.) (See Next)
I will cite you to a case here in the Western District of Kentucky. In this case, some "open air" preachers were holding signs showing a mutilated aborted fetus, at a popular street festival. Some of the spectators got pissed, and the city made the preachers take the signs down; the preachers sued and won. The Court said,
"The Court must also consider the context of the speech to determine whether it was inherently likely to cause a violent reaction, thus inciting a riot.
See also Forsyth County v. Nationalist Movement, 505 U.S. 123(1992) (stating that "speech cannot be...punished or banned simply because it might offend a hostile mob"). States have attempted to regulate speech based on the context of that speech, but they must have an actual basis for so doing. See Boos v. Barry, 485 U.S. 312, 335, (1988) (finding that a government must regulate speech based on actual violence rather than the mere belief that speech with a certain content will induce violence)."
This is a quote. The court cited to several Supreme Court cases. The same standard would apply here. If you want to look the case up for yourself it is World Wide Preachers' Fellowship v. City of Owensboro, 342 F.Supp.2d 634 (W.D. 2004).
