I have not seen that show,just read about it and it was one of the reasons I have not seen the movie Nine. Who can fill the shoes of Julia and Morris? No one.

@johnyzero2000 - I imagine she did, as dancers have been wearing them for years, to eliminate VPLs.

However, the costume itself was fully lined with fleshtone fabric (Powernet, or whatever equivalent was around back then), for the sake of modesty, and to provide extra support & warmth for Anita's body & muscles.

It was ludicrous even at the time, that the costume was deemed too risque for the Tonys broadcast, as it was obviously totally lined to give the illusion of nudity.

This makes me so nostalgic as it was one of the first big musicals I saw when I moved to New York. She brought down the house with the Call to the Vatican number. Sadly both she and the great Raul Julia are no longer with us. I am DYING for the movie to come out!

Just saw her in a rerun of cheers. Cliff was planning on suing her and she used her feminine wiles to dissuade him. Nice to see her because shes been on my mind lately with the NINE movie coming out. There was a pirated video on here of her performing Call from the Vatican but I cant find it anymore.

I remember this on TV when I was in NY. A group of us "Boys" were xing thru Bway on ouy way back to our apt on 51st. Anita Morris was on the second level stage door dressed in this "BANNED" costume havig a cig break. we shouted "WE LOVE YOU ANITA" as we passed below, she smiled, waved at us, flashed us a bit and went back into the theatre. I'll NEVER forget that...we miss you a BUNCH...The Wolf Whistlers ......

Anita Morris was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1980, & doctors gave a five year life expectancy. She looks so utterly ravishing here in 1982, that it is hard to beleive she is terminally ill. She eventually succumbed fourteen years after her original diagnosis & Broadway lost not only a great beauty, but a great talent.

I love her commercial for Nine it is both sexy and sad. It's sexy because it's Anita! It's sad because she is no longer with us and one wishes they could travel back in time, call Charge It and get tickets to Nine. Then go to the 46th street theater where she will be waiting. But we can't because the show has long been closed and it's not possible to time travel and all we have are memories that this gorgeous lady gave us. Anita you were taken to that big theater in the sky too soon!
