Yeah, I think these days you're not really allowed to put actual coal in someone's stocking. It's the reason there's not a lot of coal mines left. Someday, there will be no coal mines left.
With my family, it's just a small package that says "You've been naughty" on it, and it has two pieces of fake coal. I even got candy coal for Christmas 2005, and it made my tongue black, which is the dumbest trick ever. and you still get everything else.
My father used to give us real coal - and we were glad to get it too, I'll tell ya! It was cold outside in the storage shed - and Dad would only unlock it once a day so we could empty the "Doo doo bucket".
One time i filled my little sister's stocking with real coal.
She had a meltdown and it was hilarious.
