pro scratch 2 works just like any pioneer cdj you just need to figure out how to use it for scratching. believe it or not im able to scratch as cdj800,1000 or real turntable using pro scratch 2 using my modified scratch tracks see some of my video to see it in action also with pro 2 you get MORE & nice fx interface that doesnt comes with pioneer cdj.about the ground i dont have any problem with it i even cut the ground and i still works perpectly.
i am in the market for cd turntables aswell and my two top choices were CDJ-800 mkIIs and Denon DN-S3500, from what i have seen they are both in the same price range, difference were that the denon has efx available and a direct drive feature, upto now im still debating on which to get, any advice on this?
Best advice I can give is try and get your hands on both to see which you like best. They are both good players. As you can see, I went with the CDJ800's.
@DUDEmethaar its nice and all but i prefer my SL1200s now, this was two years ago when i was on the market for cdjs, i went for the cdj800 and loved it but i fell inlove with the 1200s the first time i played with one, its been 2 years since i got my tables..i still have my cdj800s but i rarely use them mainly as a back up for my technics..
Yeah dude. You really need to spend a little more time on there difference. I have a pair of pro scratch II's and they work ok. I have not used them to there full potential, mostly because I'm an old school club DJ and still love my vinyl. Yeah I know wake up from the 70's. I don't want to date my self, but I started in clubs before the CD player was invented. Ouch. I for one think the pro scratch is a good deal for the money.
This video was meant to show the difference in the platters function. It was not intended to be an overview of the entire player. I agree that the ProScratch is a great player. Maybe I should make a video just on the ProScratch features. Thanks, btw there is nothing wrong with vinyl. ;)
I feel what you are getting at. Well, why not do another video of you putting each one though there paces? Mix it up a little bit. I think a lot of young DJs starting out could learn some thing from us older jocks out there.
Thanks for the video ideas. The youtube DJ movement is all about sharing information and enjoying the craft. Btw, who are you calling old ;) Let me know if you share some of your DJ knowledge. I'm always willing to learn new things.
MalPhunktion, you mentioned that you have CDJ800 mkIIs, but it seems like you like the Denon3500s' feel for the platter better...would you be able to recommend which to get?...i'm looking to upgrade my gear, between the Denon 3500s (which have compatibility+functionality with Serato Scratch Live) and the Pioneer CDJ800s (which i am not sure if they have functionality/compatibility with Serato Scratch Live) - which is the better buy/system - anyone?
If you have ever taken apart a cdj there are actually 20 buttons for the platter. These buttons can be either on or off. So while "technically" they are not pressure sensitive, a certain amount of pressure is needed to trigger the switches. The Proscratch 2 does not need any pressure, you just need to come into contact with the top of the platter.
Good point about having the unit grounded. I didn't know that at all. When I was DJing over seas I some times had a glitch in that department. Now I know why.
Umm, he demonstrated quite well that it is pressure sensitive, and not touch sensitive. Pressure sensitive doesn't mean you have to push with significant force, it means that it reacts to some small amount of pressure.
Did you watch what he did in the video? There are different versions of touch sensitive, he's being more specific by explaining that it is "pressure" sensitive, meaning that what is required is pressure, not specific to a finger "touch". I've played with one before, and can confirm this. If he is wrong, explain how he made the video?
Also understand that he is NOT saying the Proscratch 2 is better in any way, just making a comparision. I would personally easily prefer the CDJ800 -- more platter realestate, built like a tank, the list goes on... -- but the tech going into the Proscratch is interesting to understand, as well as the differences between the two.
Ever played with the Denon s3500? That's what I call pressure sensitive...
I know what you mean, but it's just a tiny little bit of 'pressure' needed. I don't think you can start calling that pressure sensitive, although it's different from the other cd player.
I can see your point of view as well. On the other hand, how does he explain the difference in tech, if not by specifying pressure vs. touch? Perhaps what is needed is just clarification, that the CDJ800 "touch" sensitivity is based on a very sensitive pressure tech... good enough? ...by the way, I envy anyone using the CDJ800's.
Well, I think you are right in theory. But as you already 'agreed' it's practically touch sensitive. I think that matters the most. But I think we just had a little misunderstanding.
All you did was compare one feature and talked about little faget Jhon for the rest of the time. Pro Scratch 2 the most user friendly system I've ever used. Article from DJ Magazine stated that it was the most under rated system. It doesn't have the dial in the middle of the jog wheel cause you can program Q points and jus tap on the jog wheel.
I am well aware that I only compared one feature and the video title reflects this. The proscratch 2 is a great player, but it did have some issues. IMHO a jog dial is important...tapping the jog wheel is no different than tapping the cue button which really isn't vinyl emulation. Thanks for watching.
This was really helpful! I couldnt decide between the Denon DN-S3500 and the Pioneer CDJ-800. The only reason i wanted the denon was because it has a spinning platter, but now i know that the CDJ is pressure sensitive and has a track indicator so theres no need for the spinning platter. thanks a lot!
Glad I could help. I like the CDJ800 over the DN-S3500. The spinning platter doesn't really do anything for me. I also know a few DJs that have had trouble with the Denons and the support was subpar.
i got some questions, have you seen/used the cdj 800mk2? how does it compare? also im planning on buying 2x cdj 800mk2s as my first set of kit (i mix with software at the moment)

I would suggest trying out both at a shop if possible. I personally like the CDJ800s. Both will work fine with SSL.
